This is such a wonderful and informative video ! So many videos say " go to the station, buy your ticket, then get on the train" . What!?!? 🤣 It leaves me with more questions than answers. This video however takes into account people like myself that have very rarely taken a train to get around . Thank you for all the details, big and small. Thank you for taking the time and energy to film and make this awesome video!!!
I'm glad you included the quick transfer between train connections. I've found that sometimes you really have to be alert and light on your feet maneuvering up and down stairs and through tunnels.
Thanks for wealth of information. On my many trips to Italy I used to buy the tickets at the train station. Also, it will save so much time not having to search for which platform trains are leaving from.
I have watched sooooo many videos about riding train and so far this is the MOST helpful Thank u U guys mentioned how the tickets bought in the apps not need to validate - that was my big question Also u explained how to read the monitor to find out the platform Thanks again for that explanation Bcoz of that I actually downloaded this video in case i forget
Love your channel! I am taking my 16-year-old daughter to Europe in a couple weeks and we are hitting some of these destinations! Super helpful! So excited!
@@TheGlobalExpats Hi, thank you for responding to me, I was doing a piano master class with my professor in Clatanisetta for a week since I'm studying piano in the north of Italy, but I live in Rome and after the lesson, I went to Agrigento, Scala Dei Tuichi, Cefalu, Taormina, Syracuse , Ortigia, Noto, and there' s still a lot of beautiful places that I'll visit next time when I get there. I hope you guys can make more good videos, and get lots of fans.
This is the most helpful video I have seen in a very long time. I am traveling to Italy in June and had tons of questions about the trains. I am so glad I found your video and your channel. This is probably a stupid question but when I was trying to create a login on the app it asked for my tax code. How do I find out what my tax code is? When I opted for the country it didn’t list United States of America
Thx for this great sharing! I really recommend that people travel by train within uk and eu,, under the almost same price, the train seats are more comfortable and it will NOT have any extra charge on ur luggage. And most important, there are many discount on train tickets. If anyone needed, i can share the app that I recently used, and it helps me save 35% on every journey.
We will not have cell phones, planning on purchasing the paper Euro Global Pass for travel. In doing so, I know we will need to make and pay additional for reservations. But this information is great, especially the validation portion!
Hey Andy, sorry I just saw your comment now. Did you manage to get to Trapani for the day? We hired a car from Palermo airport because we stayed in Trapani for the week, plus it was quite difficult to find a route from Palermo to Trapani that wasn't like 4 hours or something 😓
@The Global Expats Thank you for sharing this video. It is very informative. You mentioned that buying tickets through the apps doesn't require validation. Would this apply to tickets bought online as well? Thank you.
I would like to know if tpl fvg blue bus ticket machines work also in english? I tryed to find it on tpl fvg web page, but unsuccesfully. Could someone please tell me? Especially in Udine and Trieste.
when i purchase a ticket that require a transfer (e.g. Monterosso to Florence) however the default suggested itinerary only allows 5 min for the connecting train. In a large station like Pisa Centrale, 5 mins may be risky. In addition, I know there are more options for the connecting schedule from Pisa Centrale to Florence how to buy such ticket? TIA
Hi dear, I followed your video how to get a ticket from Trenitalia app, and I booked but the time is different, I booked 8:45am but When I open my apple wallet it says 10:45am, I’m so confused.
Hey Mario! So if you buy a physical ticket you need to validate it in the machine before getting on the train, but if you buy the ticket on the app, you do not need to validate it. Hope that helps! 🤗
I didn't get one thing, the actual ticket would be valid for 4 hours? So let's say I got a ricket for 10am and if I missed it , I can go to the next one (within 4 hours) however on the app it will only be valid for 10am and if I miss it then I lost it?
Yeah that's the brutal thing about online tickets. If you miss the train, you have to purchase another ticket or you can use the one you have, if you're lucky and convincing enough with the attendant
From what I understand I think you are correct as the tickets are automatically validated when purchased, then you have 4 hours to use them on that same route. Their website says this: "Your online ticket is already validated and allows you to travel on your pre-chosen train or on others - along the same route - in the four hours after the time originally selected at the time of purchase, except for exceptions foreseen with specific regional tariffs." I hope that helps! 😅 Here is the link: www.trenitalia.com/en/purchase/regional_online_ticketandpasses.html
Having been to most countries in Europe I found the Italian staff in restaurants and shops to be a bit rude and prepared to rip you off at any opportunity. Just be more aware as someone who speaks English and no Italian you are seen as a soft touch as we are too polite to ask for our change or query a bill.
So, as an Italian who take high speed train and not every week I'll give you some advice : N1:some train have Reserved seats and some not. If you are taking a regional train (indicated on the ticket with the letter R, and like the one in the video ) there are no reserved seats but if you are not taking a regional train you will have a reserved seat (which sometimes you can choose from the app) the seat is indicate with a number and a letter like an airplane The coach is indicated with Carrozza and you can see the number of coaches just by looking at the door of the train. N2:Unfortunately many trains here in Italy always arrive late and many times especially in very large stations such as Bologna, Milan, Rome also change track / platform N3: just for the point mentioned above I strongly advise you to always look at the Departures and arrivals screen to stay updated on the condition of the train. N4:There are many types of trains in Italy with each its own characteristics. We have: Regionali veloci /regional trains:They operate in the regional borders and connect small and large cities have a maximum speed of 160 km / h and are the cheapest. Intercity: they are a cross between high speed and regional. They also operate in multiple regions and connect all of Italy. Their maximum speed is 200 km/h and their cost is certainly higher than the regional but lower than the high speed. Frecciarossa / Frecciargento:They are both high-speed trains that connect important cities in a short time are the most expensive on this list but also the fastest with speeds ranging up to 300 km/h N5:This advice concerns the Bologna station which, given its size, could be difficult to orient for tourists). You should know that it is made up of 2 parts, the first part which is the upper one from where most trains depart and from the underground part where the trains called av (high speed) depart most. I hope these tips are helpful and anyway the video was done very well.
@@shubhankarchamarty6034 I'm Italian, if you want I can give you advice on discord or whatsapp, but if you want to know things about trains, rules, politics or things like that, know that I can't help you
So you still don’t need to validate your online regional train ticket? Because I’ve seen that the validating machines have a QR code scanner and I thought that it was for the online tickets
I did not understand one thing, can you please help me? If I buy online my tickets (trenitalia) do I need to validate them? How much long they remain valid?
This is exceptional. Great video and truly great information. This no doubt should be on all of Trainitalia’s websites and apps as a user video. Thank you as my wife and I are just not moving to Italy and are complete newbies. Buying you a pizza now!
Aww thank you so much for your kind words, Patrick! 🥰 That truly means a lot to us & we are so happy you found the video helpful! We wish you all the best on your new Italian adventure! 😍🇮🇹
In the following months a new regional ticketing system will be rolled out. You’ll need a contactless card or a linked device. Just tap on at your departure station and tap off at your arrival station, and the system will automatically deduct the right fare.
Great, but is there any reason why I cannot find Trenitalia app in my iphone's app store. When I search, I see Omio, Trainline, Trenit!, Italo but no Trenitalia.
Please note that in the video the ticket is validated where is says "validare sul retro", which means "validate on the back of the ticket". Don't make that mistake, stamp it on the right side!
Buying ticket online do we have to validate our QR code at the counter and how do we scan the QR code to enter the train platform?. Thank you very much for your help. My husband's and I will be in Rome September from Alaska USA.
Waiting in Florence for my train to Rome. So far an hour late…. My experience with the trains in Italy has been challenging. It’s kinda like flying Spirit Airlines, you will eventually get there but you are never sure when?
Great video! If you have bought a ticket using the trenitalia app and are taking a journey that has say 2 changes and you miss your connection can you just hop on the next train?
Interesting video, with Polish translation, although with language errors :-/ Unfortunately, the Trenitalia application is unavailable for Polish users :-(
Hi Matteo and Michal, glad you showed validation process for paper tickets and digital, which we don’t need to. For a question please: What’s the QR scanner at the bottom right of the green validation machine, do we need to scan our paper ticket too? (I saw that you did not.)
I have a question on cancellation and refund of tickets booked on the Trenitalia site. If we are unable to travel, how can we cancel the ticket. I can't find an option on their site even after i am logged in. Also, is there any percentage that gets refunded even for a non-refundable ticket that is cancelled up to 2 weeks in advance? Or even an option to change the date for travelling or getting vouchers for that amount? Request those knowledgeable about the process to provide an answer on this please. Thanks!
