Hand combed Gotland fleece from Whipper Snapper the sheep with Valkyrie fine combs
I will continue with the Ukrainian flag yarn next week. The weather was so beautiful that I had to step out to the deck and comb some fleece. Sorry for the harsh sun in the shot - hope you can see how beautiful this fleece is.
The Gotland I have appears finer then the others I have seen in RU-vid Videos, they might be a cross. Though every sheep is unique and quality and micron count can vary greatly.
According to 'The Fleece & Fiber Sourcebook'. Fleece can weigh between 5.5 to 11 pounds, be 3 to 7 inches in length, be as fine at 18 microns in Lambs going up to 27 to 34 in adults. Natural colors Predominantly grays, from light silvery gray through charcoal to near black. Occasionally white and a few browns. The tips can be brown (due to sun fade).
Combing a fleece is easy but does take some practice to get the right angles and hand motions down. Be patient with yourself this should be a calming process.
Nests are ready to spin right after combing, but might be better to comb enough for you whole project.
