Interesting. I wonder if this use of "Waar" is related to the way "Where" is used in more formal English speech. For example "The document wherein the sentence was found" or "The object whereupon my desires lay".
It is! The same can be seen in German: wo, womit, worauf, etc. And this can be observed in ‘there’ as well: there -> thereof; daar -> daarvan; da -> davon.
Hello , descovring your channele was a blessing so thank you, one question please! is there any rule to define whether we should seperate the waar and the preposition or keep theM glued ? If not i would assume that both cases can be always correct ( waarnaar ik kijk - waar ik naar kijk ) ?
Hi, awesome video, thank you so much. Talking about the uses of WAAR it would be great if you can make a video of WAAR/ DAAR/ ER compounds mixed with prepositions like: Voor, over, aan, van, op, na... etc. Thank you so much
Hi there, so I've made two, one about daar: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BEzhGYP3hwg.html and one about waar/er/daar: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kq2VoyfJilE.html
Hi, I have a couple questions I hope that's fine. When we use the first rule, the one for verbs that have a fixed preposition, do we always use waar? Can it be anything other than waar as a connecting word? Such as dat, die... Also in the "Dat is de taak die ik afwerk." vs "Het is het formulier dat ik invul." Is there a rule here for the usage of die vs dat? can we use whichever we want? Thank you so much in advance.
Hi there, in exactly one week this video will come online: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RbLiV_TRcLc.html about this topic. But in short: dat is for het-words like het formulier, die for de-words like de taak. And yes, you have to use waar if there's a fixed preposition. Unless it's a person, then it will be wie.
What will be the translation of "The most beautiful place WHERE I have been to in the Netherlands" ? Also, how is the usage of "Where" in this sentence?
@@PoojaKumari-qg7dg Aha, it is though. But - and sorry to make it complex here - with preposition, you may put it behind the verb. You could also say: 'De mooiste plek waar ik in Nederland ben geweest.'
Is it correct to use "waarop" when referring to a person? I thought it should only be used for things and not people. For example, should the sentence "Het is de man waarop ik wacht." be "Het is de man op wie ik wacht."?
