Great in-depth tutorial, even for experienced folks. The MIDI settings are great because they allow for you to control your built in mic pre within your DAW and/or from your control surface. One other note, LCRS is left/center/right/surround format, not sub. I think it's really cool of you to be humble and flat-out say you weren't familiar with those settings. Otherwise, perfect video, thanks!

Oh shoot!! I did not know that!! I have heard of people monitoring LCR with the LFE channel, so I made the assumption. Thank you for the correction!! I don't use any control surfaces except my Arturia keyboard, but I may have to look into using that feature!!

Love the honesty and clarity on communicating the topic and setup. I’m currently setting up something similar but I’m using the MTRX Studio Thunderbolt I/O for digital routing. Was curious how different the process is or if you could release a video on it😅

Awesome!! I'm excited for your setup. Unfortunately, I don't own a thunderbolt card to make a "good" video like I did with this one. To my knowledge, the steps are the same with a few minor changes... If you have instagram, send me a direct message to @mountainlabelmusic, and I can help you through the setup of you MTRX Studio!!

Great video, what are you using for TOF and calibration? Trinnov keeps popping up in my research???

Trinnov is a bit much unless you have the budget for it. Some use Sonarworks for their calibration. I like REW because it's free, with whatever measurement microphone I can get. My system isn't currently calibrated 100%, since I am moving to a new place very soon. I plan on doing videos about that sometime this summer🙂

Is it possible to have 11.1.8 Dolby Atmos setup within the DADman software?

Forgot to respond to this, shame on me... I believe so!! You will have to create your own sources and add your own additional front, side, and rear surrounds, along with heights.

Nice, but I wouldn't give greedy Avid any money. I'd get an AX32/64 instead and would actually have support that actually knows what you're talking about when you contact them. Just a tip if you want to solo speakers like that you can create multiple outputs per monitor section(like one for atmos and multiple mono for individual speakers) or you could also toggle speakers on and off above the level indicators (i think there was a multiselect/deselect on them). Good rule of thumb when creating monitor profiles is have only a single profile for 1 physical listening position. Monitor 1 is for example you sitting in the chair, if you want to be able to switch to a different output in the same position, like secondary set of speakers, or like in your case a single soloed speaker - create a new output on the same monitor. Monitor 2 could be HP out, Monitor 3 could be HP2 out (in those cases if would be just a single output on a monitor) Monitor 3 could be a cue send to a different room etc. Putting that in folddown's even through it works just feels a bit "unintended purpose" you know. You'd want to keep folddown for actual fold downs to 5.1, 2.0 etc. mixes. though if you're mixing for dolby atmos folddowns are better handled by their renderer as it might have different folddown rules as the audio is folded down from 3d objects to less speakers, rather then from more speakers to less speakers.

While I agree on the support with Avid, it is the only one that is within my budget that included everything I needed and was able to give me flexibility with Sweetwater. It is a risk I am willing to take. In terms of everything else you have talked about, I completely agree!!

I think you may be confusing Folddown with solo. If you solo LR when playing in Atmos, all you are doing is soloing them and not hearing the true "fold down" of the full mix blended down to stereo.
@mountainlabelmusic
@mountainlabelmusic 10 месяцев назад
You are correct!! Fold-Down = All Channels in a Source "Folded Down" into a smaller speaker count. The only reason I mention "Fold-Down" with the Solo is that in the Avid MTRX Studio, you don't have a the option to just "Solo" speakers, and there is no option to create "Solo" channels in itself. You have to create them under the Fold-Down settings within DADMAN to create the Solo channels. You do this by only allowing the input signal from one channel in the source, then output that signal to the relative speaker, rather than allowing the input signal from all channels to fold-down into whichever speakers you want. I explain in the video that I do not like the Fold-Down presets because they can be misguiding, due to being potentially inaccurate. Which is why I only use the Fold-Down settings in DADMAN for Solo-ing purposes. What I do is if I want to hear a "Fold-Down" (which, take in mind, will rarely be heard by the average music listener), I route my inputs to Logic Pro, which has the Atmos renderer built-in. I listen back using the Renderer's fold-down options. Hope this makes sense!! :)

@@mountainlabelmusic thanks for that routing into Logic tip.
