Here in Germany we have to wear chainsaw safety gear. Ear protection, helmet with a visor, gloves, chainsaw trousers (inlets can stop the saw before cutting through, got mine from Oregon just black with some orange accents, other brands are mostly orange) and chainsaw boots (steel cap and same cut protection as the trousers). And never work alone ... nice video thx for it.

At your own property? I use safety gear, but that’s a choice here in the states. If you’re doing it for work, you have to, but at your place, for yourself, your free to do what you want with your saw.

There are plenty of people in the states and around the world that value our healthy bodies. You would think with the additional cost for medical treatments for Americans, we should take every safety precaution too.

This was/is BIG TIME helpful for me. I have a skil small gas I bought new never used it (a couple of years ago) out of fear and ignorance. The stove I use is a Cubic Mini Grizzly and it takes about 6" and I don't know how to jig up something to hold the wood that is ... well lets say the standard 16" people have cut, split and delivered. I would (wood :-)) still have to cut it shorter. I have some branches too but this video helped a lot. I could have more questions as well. Also, I think I noticed you were cutting straight up and down to the ground... The safety to stand to the side is something I never heard before... So as soon as I can hold the wood safely ... I might start cutting ... stacking etc. Here is the NW people fish, hunt and use chain saws ... second nature...

Glad I could help. When I was cutting this I was basically straight down and in front of me, but I did have my rear leg slightly behind me so if the saw did slip out I could simply pivot and it would go to the side of me. There are a lot of techniques to learn with a chainsaw, this hopefully shows enough to get you started.

Thanks for watching. I have looked at my links again and the one that I used is currently unavailable. The hard part with things like that on Amazon is that there is not an actual "Brand". Even though it looks like one. There are sellers and when there is a batch of product made in China that comes out, the sellers make brands and sell out what they can. So there might be 3, 5, or more "Brands" that are literally exactly the same.

How to use your Ego chainsaw, go grab your das Husqvarna chainsaw haha. I think what you were trying to convey on binding and where to start is that you want to cut the compression side 1st and then the tension side after to prevent binding
