IMPORTANT TIP if you're having issues reconnecting an iPhone to the Mac! After you connect the iPhone and want to use the phone again tap "Pause" and not "Disconnect" on the iPhone. This will allow you to go back to using it as a camera. If you click disconnect, you'll need to restart the Mac in order to reconnect...Hopefully Apple resolves this soon.
Can anyone answer, should you put on airplane mode when you do this? Will it still work? I just don't want texts/calls during important meeting disrupting..
It's nice, but I genuinely don't mind the 1080p webcam on the newer MacBooks. Certainly better than previous iterations and for me, perfectly fine for calls.
You helped me solve a problem by realizing that the wifi for BOTH the iPhone and the Mac I'm connecting to with the continuity camera need to be enabled. Good learning experience. Thank you!
maybe a sonoma change, but 'video effects' are now accessed by clicking the facetime green icon and not the control center... also not obvious - zoom control is on the small image view itself. not your finest ux, apple.
But why won't it record in 16 x 9 while using continuity? It does it in 4:3, and I've been banging my head against the wall to try to record it in 16 x 9 but so far no use, it just won't do it. Silly, if you ask me.
Awesome review! Comparing the most common webcams really drives the point home. I daily an M1 MacBook Air but use a Pixel (blasphemy I know) and ironically have been using it as a wireless webcam for years with Droid Cam, Iriun, OBS or similar software. This is no doubt more elegant though.
Thanks for the great video. I wish Apple would just put a better webcam inside of the MacBook instead writing software to connect an an iPhone which is external and expensive.
Man this is frustrating. I've gone through all of the steps and still cannot get my mac to recognize my iPhone. Do you have to restart the mac or phone?
camera not showing on Mac mini .... Ventura 13.2.1, iOS 16.5. and has never worked... tried restarting, switching on / off bt/wifi .. never shoed up on Mac mini
Can you tell me if I can use 2 iPhone cameras on Mac at the same time. Eg if I wanted to use 1 camera front of car and another on rear of the car off 2 iPhones will that work? Same account same wifi etc as usual.
Let me know when they add a feature that lets you use your iPhone as a secondary angle camera!!! Now THAT would be cool. I don't like the mic on my iPhone X, so I wouldn't choose this feature. Only if I had an added external mic.... I do have one for my laptop, but not for my iPhone. Only so helpful for this lady. You may get a clearer image, but ..... I got excited for a bit thinking it was pairing up as a secondary angle. Waaa waaaa....
My MacBook Pro only detects my Iphone when it is plugged into the laptop with the USA cable. I have followed all the steps and nothing works. It sucks!
What a helpful and straight forward video. Just tested it with my iPhone 13 Pro Max and it works perfectly. And to think I was worried about getting some proper lighting to start my channel, where in actual fact, for the time being the studio lighting feature appears awesome - at least in my room it does.
I had this issue too, here's the fix. After you connect the iPhone and then want to use the phone again be sure to tap "Pause" and not "Disconnect" on the phone. This will allow you to go back after. Currently, have no idea how to get it connected again without a restart haha, so don't disconnect.
great video.. thanks.. one query.. i am connecting my iphone 12 pro max to my m1 and i dont see video effects on my m1 for my iphone.. so i am unable to use center stage or potrait and stuff.. any idea why?
Awesome feature but turns out you cant Zoom with it connected this way. a huge shame seeing as the next closest free alternative is IRIUN which is extremely Laggy and temperamental. this is a solid solution if you only need a fixed angle. but if your putting your phone on a stand and using it overhead in the traditional manner you'd better be happy with the normal wide angle. unless someone can show me another way.
I plan on using my iPhone 14 Pro as a webcam with my M2 Mac Mini, but I can't seem to find a MagSafe clip for a 32" monitor. I know I can get a retractable stand, but I prefer the sleekness of a clip that can stay in place without cluttering my desk. Any tips for this setup would be much appreciated!
Excellent video, Justin. Upgraded to Ventura and ordered the Belkin mount today. Right now, I use Camo Studio with my iPhone for Zoom webinars and meetings and will need to check how the Continuity camera compares. I wish it had a zoom function...but maybe Apple will offer that in an update soon. BTW, you have a new subscriber.
Great Video Justin! This is going to be soooo helpful when trying to show my parents how to use their iPhone, or new Apple Watch! I can't tell you how many times I have to tell my parents "flip the camera and show me what you're looking at". there response "how do I flip the camera". ugh !! 🤦♂
Can cnet talk about some of the iphone 14 pro camera issue? Someone I know upgraded to iOS 16.1 but their when doing video call with Whatsapp still have focusing issue. Maybe we should bring this issue up, and investigate how widespread it is, so Apple can pay attention and fix it.
I've seen a few of these vids when trying to find a mount but this is the best demo, very informative thank you! btw. what's the name of the first track in the background, it's catchy!
Mine doesn’t even connect in the first place… wasting time here. iPhone 13 Pro and 2020 MacBook Pro, same wifi, bluetooth on, iCloud logged in… nothing. Barely any info on this. Restarted both. Just me?
@@Justin_tech can you give some examples please. I’m an older person & am not keen on mounting my new IPhone 14 Pro Max on my laptop display……makes me very nervous. I would greatly appreciate some suggestions. Cheers 😊
Does anyone know if this works for facebook or bongo video chats? I see the microphone as a connection option, but not the camera. Mine works fine for Facetime and Discord chats, just wondering if this is a security permissions issue or just incompatibility at this time thanks!
Hello, I would like to ask you about a use of this feature that I cannot find anywhere. For example, I wonder how high quality it would be to broadcast live with an iPhone camera by focusing the rear camera on the classroom board from a distance of three or four meters, rather than using a short-range webcam while sitting at a desk. I currently have the SONY A6500 model, which broadcasts in 4K resolution, but I wonder whether it will provide the same image and processing performance compared to the newly released iPhone 15 Pro Max. I would be very happy if you share your opinions. Thanks in advance.
Is that with any iPhone as long as it has the upgraded OS? Or, what versions of iPhone hardware would be needed. The follow feature is interesting. I haven't tried it yet but I'm guessing there are some hardware limitations on older models.
Using Continuity Camera requires an iPhone XR or iPhone 11 or newer with iOS 16 or later and a computer running macOS Ventura (version 13) or later. Both devices must be signed into the same Apple ID and also have Bluetooth and Wi-Fi turned on.
