I used my IRA in 2008 to purchase real-estate property that was part of a land development. I am currently trying to rollover this IRA into my Gov Thrift Saving plan but i was told since the IRA is in property and not actual cash, the land development custodians of the property will have to send me a check for the actual value of the estate, is that possible and will there be any pushback from the developers.
Hi, Thanks for your question. First, I am not sure why you would want to roll your IRA into a Gov Thrift plan. There does not seem to be any benefit. Second, Gov Thrift plans will not accept in-kind alternative assets or allow you to invest in alternative assets in the plan so that option will not work. I would just leave the asset on the IRA. However, if you are unhappy with your current IRA custodian, you should consider moving to IRA Financial. Thanks

If I was going to only have property in my account, I might want to go with a Solo 401k (as long as I qualify), instead of a self-directed IRA , but if I'm going to have real estate + other alternatives (i.e., crypto, or gold, etc.) I'd need to go with a self-directed IRA, correct?
Hi, You can hold real estate in a Self-Directed IRA or a Solo 401(k). Additionally, we offer the ability to hold other alternative assets such as precious metals, cryptos, and traditional investments. We don't have a price difference in terms of what you can invest in. The main difference between the Solo 401(k) and the Self-Directed IRA are the annual contribution limits. Thanks!
I'm 68 and have small IRA (about $65K). It's not large enough to do much with real estate but I have the ability to add my own funds to it. Am I limited to adding $7500 annually? Is there a way to use it for real estate by adding my own funds?
