I have passed my test on Thursday for the first time. I don’t usually make comments but I feel that I have to, to show my appreciation. All this videos helped me a lot. I have overcome my driving anxiety because of Richard. I used to be really scared when I started my lesson to the point that I wanted to stop. Every time I made a mistake on my driving lesson, I just keep watching this videos as it fills my knowledge gap. Thank you very much Richard. I’m very grateful.
Congratulations, I am sure that you will be a safe and responsible driver. Driving: Just because everyone does it does not mean that it's easy. It definitely is not easy, especially with a manual gearbox. I wish that these videos had been around when I took my test back in the 70s.
Some cars do this automatically. If yours doesn't, Google the make, model and production year of your car, followed by "ODB2" and "automatic lowering of wing mirrors while reversing". If you find results that tell you that this is possible, go see a mechanic. Why? Most car makers try to diversify the product line by having options on more expensive models that cheaper models don't have. But: in some cases, those cheaper models actually do come with those options installed to keep the cost of production down, but they're then disabled in your car's computer at the factory because you didn't pay for them. A mechanic with a laptop, and ODB2 cable and the right software can enable those options in your car's computer. Automatic lowering of wing mirrors is a good example of a disabled option: everything needed is usually there (the motor in the wing mirror, detection of putting the car into reverse) because those things are needed for other functions that are present on your trim level (like adjusting your wing mirrors using a button and of course the reversing lights). So it's likely just an option that can be enabled.
I've got my driving licence last year in italy, I still rely on your videos for enriching my knowledge, your content is always helpful in so many ways, thank you for your hard work
Hey Richard. I used your mirror lowering tip yesterday and managed to park in reverse in a super narrow spot at a hotel's parking lot. Did that like a pro I'm not :) Thanks for these helpful videos! 🙏
This is a brilliant video and i can prove the importance of the side mirrors being lowered when reversing. This is because on my driving lesson last Saturday my instructor got me to do all of the manoeuvres. I had really struggled with this previously and i suddenly realised that this was because i needed to lower my mirrors. Previously, my instructor had been asking me if i could see the bay line out of my left side mirror and i couldn't so i kept getting it wrong. On Saturday after i lowered the mirrors i completed all of my manoevers successfully, therefore showing the importance of lowering the side mirrors. I was one happy chappy!!!
If you watch other people drive you will notice them raising their body and head up so they can see more in the mirror too when doing these manourvers. Some cars mostly only expensive germans ones automatically lower the offside wing mirror when you put it in reverse.
Hi Richard! Thought I would let you know that I passed my test yesterday - long time coming after having three previous tests that resulted in fails (last one I did was during covid restrictions 2020) - very frustrating as I know I could drive but overthinking got the better of me so this is a massive weight lifted off. I used my own car for my test and practice of course with my parents supervising, these videos were amazing to look on, pretty sure that meeting traffic one and other tips allowed me to pass so thank you ! I’ll come back here whenever I need a refresh as you’re a great teacher! Anyone whose feeling like they can’t do it, I get it - try and remove those doubts through breath work/meditation/sleep tapes whatever works (that worked for me) and your confidence will shoot up! Had no anxiety driving on my own yesterday or today:) thanks again Richard:)
It’s nice to know other people feel like this/learned like this and still passed the test. I also have been driving in my own car with the supervision of my parents but this has made me feel like my knowledge has gaps and my mannerisms aren’t to test standard because my parents aren’t instructors but i can’t afford many proper lessons. It feels like I will never pass. My test is in 9 days and my instructor doesn’t think I’m ready but I know I can drive well when I’m not nervous so hopefully 2nd time lucky. These videos are super helpful, can’t believe it’s free
Those videos are very helpful as a rehearsal even after you get your own car. Dear learners - I am in my thirties and bought my first car few months ago. I haven't been driving since my license exam. No matter how much you learn, ride as passenger and observe - you got to learn everything by yourself again. My friends got their cars just after they've grabbed their license and I feel like I failed at school for 10 or more years. It's especially stressful when it's your parents car and you have to park among other cars. I remember that even on my exam it was forbidden to use mirrors when making reverse 90 degree turn. This reminds me learning mathematical formulas by heart when they were designed to be there in the book so you don't need to memorize them. Anyway I see under youtube videos comments such "If you can't overtake the tractor or other car you should have your license taken away!" which is madness, because I didn't learn to overtake in my driving school not even once! Other drivers quickly forget they did not know how to drive and they're also very cocky - often too much and they kill or got killed because they are too confident. The helpful solution in parking and also changing lanes are blind spot glue-on mirrors that you can buy for small amount of cash. I love them. They give that bit of confidence. Big mirror magnifies so you can see further if there's no one rushing with high speed, then quick check with blind spot mirror and you can be sure there's no one around. And as with everything - it takes time and patience. Time and patience. It should be written down everywhere. All in all it's you - the driver - responsible with what you do with your car, not the guy who's honking and shouting around. You need to learn the roads, nuances, that this lane is ending, on this street are potholes, so go slower. The stress will go away eventually but you need to travel many miles before it will happen. And like in airplanes - every landing in one piece is good landing. If after parking your car you're alive, car is in one piece, and no one is killed - nothing else matters really. Happy driving. Cheers!
By the general tone of this comment, I feel I need to let you know that yes, practice and being accurate and careful about everything is important when learning, but you need to let it get you to a point where you do it naturally, i.e. you still do proper checks etc, but let go of that "careful careful careful" anxiety attitude. You are right that overconfident drivers are dangerous, but so are underconfident and nervous drivers. I would rather get in a car as a passenger with an overconfident driver, than an underconfident one.. because the confidence is what will get you out of a bad situation rather than panicking and be completely void of important _action._
Forbidden to use mirrors while doing a 90 degree reverse turn? When was this? I'd reckon this isn't safe: you can't see what's happening behind you if you don't look in the mirrors. And not just to prevent damage to your car, but also to upcoming traffic of course. Then again - not too long ago, a passenger side wing mirror was not required by law and usually an optional extra when you bought a car.
You're a genius, your lessons and tutorials are brilliant for complete newbies as you show with lines and other graphics (but never distracting) exactly what you're talking about with clear and slow explanations which are very easy to understand for brand new drivers. Thank you so much! (I struggled with parking today but hopefully with your videos I will be an expert, eventually!)
That's how one should teach driving. I had only road rides but nothing much about parking reverse parking anything.. just road ! so now I am afraid of hitting curb when turning . He is such a good teacher !
Hands down best car instructor out there, thank you for your patient and informative approach every time, you've helped me a lot polish my driving and observation skills.
Been driving on my own for a year and a half and I'm still uncomfortable driving backwards. I've been reversing into the driveway to get some more practice, but I still keep oversteering in each direction in an attempt to correct my position. This has been a big help.
Take it from a retired over-the-road driver, the more you do it the easier it will become. I was medically retired in 2018 and I still look in the mirrors when turning. Drove my first truck, or anything, on active duty in 1975 and have driven a truck of some sort in 3 different countries. Keep practicing your backing and don't forget to also work on your parallel parking.
Yesterday I was panicking and browsing through RU-vid for any usefull tips for my driving test. I had the test this morning, and wouldn't have passed without this video. I had no idea how to reverse and park between the lines, but I remembered your mirror tips and it went great! So thank you, and I will keep returning to these videos to learn more ❤
I had loads of problems parking with my car. So I bought the little circular mirrors you can stick onto your wing mirrors. I use them to see the ground beside my car and that helps loads when pulling up to the side of the road, reversing along the curb and even parking in car parks. I recommend anyone to get them as they are inexpensive and are useful to have if you don't have reversing camera or mirrors that fold down when you reverse. Saves you having to manually adjust your mirrors for any maneuvers.
I passed my driving test yesterday with two minors. These videos were very helpful, particularly the advice for using the mirrors to reverse and judging the positioning of the car. Thanks for the excellent videos! My advice: keep focused and alert, don’t overthink things and be confidently cautious but not overly hesitant.
You are an effective teacher sir. Thank you so much for your videos. It is surprising how much I was able to learn from your videos even after driving for years.
Conquer driving really is a legend and very very highly skilled driving instructor, he’s also educating license holders as well as other driver instructors and more importantly learner drivers. Keep going mate and thank you so much for your continues educational about driving safely ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for your helpful videos! Passed my test yesterday with only 1 minor. Your videos were such a great help for some additional study outside of practicing with instructor/family. Took my car out for my first solo drive today, and reverse bay parked in a busy Lidl car park!
Not sure how I ended up here as I passed my test a decade ago haha, but I must say it is nice to hear an instructor talk about this technique as I have never heard it mentioned before and it was not the way I was taught. I found the way I was taught very difficult to understand, and as soon as I started driving after my test I figured out how to do it this way on my own. Part of me felt like I was doing it wrong since I have never seen it be instructed this way, so it is reassuring to know it is a valid way of driving! Thanks
For the driving test you can use whatever method you wish, as long as you have good control and good observations. Many instructors teach the 3 line method. The problem with this method is it doesn't teach you how to guide a car backwards.
I think u have saved me , i use to confuse reversing a car by using all the mirrors at once. U have taught me to focus on one at time and look in front abit . Am for sure going to try ur method and see. Love me . U a great teacher
I like this car tutorial and i feel finding a new way to drive the car, i will know parking more from your channel, may Lord Jesus bless you my brother and keep teaching 🙏😊👍
I find that is' best to know where your rear wheels are, as they are the pivot point. Reversing into a bay, or parallel parking. It's not difficult to know, you get a feel for it pretty quick, or you can look at the back of the car, and it should be just behind the rear seats. That's what I've been taught, and it works a treat, even parallel parking. When parallel parking : - Get parallel car you are trying to park behind, say, and close, say a foot or two. - reverse straight until your rear wheels are past the other car's bumper, say by two feet, a yard to be generous (depends on the distance between your front wheel and the front of your car, but leave room). - Turn steering wheel and reverse so your car is at 30-45 degrees towards the curb. - Reverse straight, until your rear wheel is close to the curb (say a foot to again be generous). - Rotate wheel in the other direction, to straighten the car into the bay, and keep reversing. - If you left enough room up front (two feet, a yard), you should just slide into the space, a foot off the curb (whatever you decided to choose).
I have been confused about reversing to the bay that's not near me.. I can only do the 90 degree reverse for the test but this video is so helpful for real driving after passing the test. Thank you so much for making this tutorial!
As someone who is dyslexic you explained this soooo much better than those who tried to teach me. The concept of being backwards and everything being reversed always confused me! But the steer the wheel toward where you want to go!!!! I get it now! It def clicks and the visuals help as well thank you so much for this! ❤ it makes so much sense
Back many years ago, my driving tutor didn’t use the “mirror” technique and I didn’t know about this. After watching your videos, I started using your “mirror” technique in parking, and now I am confident whenever I park (except in multi storeys car park which I need to practice more😂). Many thanks for all these videos, you are a great teacher!
Prepping for my test and this vid has helped me on tips and tricks with the mirrors a ton. I was always confused how to properly use/judge angles within the mirrors, but this video has helped a bunch. Now to take this and use it. Thank you so much!
Passed my exam on Friday, and I thought I'd share... After failing the sticks twice and taking a 3-month long break, I went back and did it. 🤗🤗🤗 I'm so happy. I wasn't nervous but focused on applying what I've learned from the instructor in my country and your THOROUGH RU-vid videos Richard. 🙌🙌
I discovered this trick of lowering the mirrors on my own as I learned my driving in 1963 before door mirrors were invented. A few years ago I helped a lady friend get into a tight spot in a hotel car park using this same method. Cars are much easier to drive today than they were back then.
The best video and advice i ever seen for for manoeuvres, i am an experienced driver , i am teaching my wife, this video definitely will make the things easy for me to explain it her and it cleared my conception too
Excellent video and you don't know how much I appreciate hearing a driving instructor push the use of mirrors. I learned to drive on a pickup (Canadian) and the mirrors had to be used as the canopy blocked any view out the back window. One suggestion I have. You can buy vehicles with multi mirror settings for different drivers but one I would like to see is once you put it into reverse the mirrors automatically adjust downwards to where you want them for backing. You can do this with the multi-driver settings as long as not needed for other drivers. Just found your videos and you are an excellent instructor and know how to elucidate in a way that is easily understood.
Thank you. The car is using adjusts the mirrors automatically depending on the key thats being used and self dips the left mirror for reverse. It's a nice feature but most cars don't have this.
Just passed my road test yesterday for the first time. Thank God! I’ve been watching a lot of RU-vid videos and learned everything on my own without anyone helping me how to do it in actual. Watching videos helped me a lot. Thanks to these people for their efforts on making learning videos like this. This save us new drivers every time we hop in the car and maneuver the car safely.
i have to give Credit were its due. I have been following you for the 2 years now and decided to subscribe. i passed my driver's license on the first go and im using these tips on my everyday life. much appreciated from South Africa
This is where i left of my last lesson. and my instructor said, u gota learn to parallel park good, cuz u live here, how else u guna park outside ya house :) (this was super helpful TY) :)
Thanks Belinda, I hope it helps. The key to parallel parking is no more than 45 degrees angle and come back with the wheels straight at that angle to insert yourself into the space. Too much angle and you'll probably get stuck.
@@ConquerDriving for sum odd flukey reason i can just do the bay exercise, no issues.but the parallel one I end up too far from the curb, then it gets complicated trying to fix that. my instructor says, u did, but i make it hard for ur self :( im hoping to put ur advice into practice next time :) thanx :)
Your videos have been so helpful from the time I started my driving lessons two weeks back. I keep getting better. This too has been very informative 👌
Fun trick my instructor in Denmark told me when parallel parking was to turn the wheel 1 full revolution, then reverse back until you were at 45*, then just straighten out the wheel and reverse back to park. That really gets through the hard part of it, it gives you a comfortable distance to the object in front and you have a clear view and guide using the kerb. Parallel parking ended up being one of the easiest maneuvers.
A huge thank you for this video! Today I passed my driving exam in Portugal and this video really helped me with reverse bay parking. Truy appreciate the time and effort you put into creating this content.
Good instruction. It's good to be patient and take your time, despite the pressure that other drivers may instill upon you. And you will experience impatient drivers, particularly in big cities.
Had to come back to your channel to thank you for your help, had a mix of instructors one good two absolutely awful but your channel helped me get my knowledge and confidence up behind the wheel. Passed my test first time!
Great video! More advanced techniques, after you conquer these, is to do your wheel adjustments whilst the car is ever so slightly still moving - this way you'll lower unnecessary damage/stress on your tires and help them last a bit longer. If you ever drive a car without power steering you'd see how much easier it's to steer while the tires are rolling. While the power steering eliminates this inconvenience for you, the car is still govern by the laws of physics. In addition, steering while standing still also puts a bigger load on your steering pump and the power steering components in general.
Been watching your videos past few weeks,100% helped with just watching ,had my test today past 1st time ,I watch yours and a few other channels ,all super helpful
This is definitely helpful. I will look at this video again when I get my vehicle because it's been awhile since i've gotten behind a wheel after passing my test.
This video was so enlightening and way more helpful than any other examples of reversing have ever been. This was really informative! Seeing the rearview mirrors in real-time, and understanding directions as this way/that way (instead of left or right), really makes this process a whole lot clearer. Thank you so much! I'm taking the driving test in the US, but regardless, this was still helpful, and even moreso helpful than videos I've seen made for driving in the US (lol).
This is why alot of cars like mine now have a parking function where you can preset the nearside mirror to a desired position when going into reverse. Though people need to understand the differences when doing a maneuver like this in a longer car as the rear protrudes more. Also parking in an empty car park is one thing which we all learn in but people seem to panic when parking between 2 cars as is daily life
I am glad you added the bit on the end as up until then i thought you had forgotten to say that you need to keep track of what the front of the car is doing. It annoys me that people back in to 90 degree car parks (yes it is compulsory in some places) as I think it holds up traffic more than backing out does. The other thing I find interesting is that when i learned to drive (1972) the car I learned in didn't have any external mirrors which was not uncommon in those days. When I got my licence we had a drivers side one put on (for towing) but never bothered with a passenger side one.
My driving instructor says we are doing reversing next lesson (6th hour I believe) so decided to watch this in advance, didn't think it would be that helpful but like all your others was so, and to a fantastic degree!
Hi, although I passed my test few months ago but I still watch your videos as they are really best👍 Can you pls make a video on right side parallel parking between 2 cars as I’m struggling very much. Thank you
Thank you. You can use the same method for parking on the right, you just use the right wing mirror instead. This video may help: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PIscD0LrToc.html
The only time you will ever turn the wheel to the opposite direction where you wanna reverse is when you are in a vehicle that has a trailer! and it is jolly difficult to do so lmao. (ETS2 with trucks.) But honestly, this is The BEST video in regards to this maneuvers. Cause it is actually showing you what you need to see in the mirrors! Thanks CD!
for instance, at 10:05 you can see both mirrors, and you can just sit in the middle and can visualise you are in the car. Where you wanna go, you can see in the mirror in the video. And you turn to where you want to reverse. And that really helps a lot to learners.
