When a baked item (or pancakes/waffles) calls for milk I just add the milk powder in the dry ingredients and water equivalent to the amount of milk required. Been doing it forever. Easy peasy! 👍
Interesting video 😁 When I was young my mother would take a gallon of milk from the milk man and half it with powdered milk to stretch the gallon. As children we never knew the difference! I am 62 years young, sooooo back in the day that is what my mom did to save money. The Milk Man delivered milk to the house that mom made stretch. And of course we had the egg man that delivered eggs to the house. Happy memories of a life less stressful ❤️🌱🇺🇸😇
That is what I’m doing, writing recipes etc in a notebook... I’m working on learning to cook more with rice & beans... while I still have RU-vid & google... 😊👀
I have also found out that if you want to reconstitute nonfat instant milk, pour the powder into your Ninja storm, just like you are using, and mix it well. It makes those milk granules fine like powder and it mixes so much better than if you don't do that. I do that first then store the fine powder in a jar so it's ready to use.
@@Bex-rg8pj You can make condensed milk and add 1/2 cup powdered sugar and whatever extract you want in it for flavoring or even cinnamon to make coffee creamer.
@@eyes2see438 hi the nido powdered milk is a whole milk where as the normal powdered milk is a skim milk that’s why it tastes like watered down milk it has a richer taste and better flavor hope this helps
@@harleyhillbilly4937 I'm so glad that someone posted this on here because I couldn't remember how to spell Nido. I've been so worried about the ones I bought because it's in the big red cans and I've been afraid that I got baby formula.
@@kentuckygirl900 I bought the Nido Kinder 1-3, not realizing there were different kinds. I think it is baby formula? Can anyone tell me the kind to get that is like regular powdered milk? Can the Kinder type be used or should I donate it? No babies here.
Excellent ideas for powdered milk uses!! I remember as a kid seeing this on our table but refused to drink it. I’m always buying evaporated and sweetened condensed milk in cans for cooking. You have changed my perception of powdered milk. Thank you so much!
Great idea to use the food blender. I've always just used a hand whisk. D'oh! Great idea Jinni. Also the condensed & evaporated milk. I've never thought to use powdered milk for that. Thank you so much. Stay safe everyone 🇬🇧 🇬🇧💖💖👍👍
Thank you so much for this video! I jotted down these recipes in my cookbook in the tips and tricks section. I added a fair bit of powdered milk to my food storage because it was clearanced. ❤
Have kept powdered milk in my pantry since the SW Ohio 1978-79 Blizzard. Back then they put recipes on the package. My family loved the milkshakes and whipped cream we made, even my picky eater husband. I don't remember how I made them now. I'm a dump and pour cook, so when I make mashed potatoes I don't cover the potatoes with water to boil them. I do put a lid on the pan. When tender, I add butter and the powdered milk, use my hand held mixer and whip them up. You can pour the water off and save it in a container, then add a little back as needed back into the potatoes. I feel like the water contains a lot of nutrients in it. My family loves Mama's mashed potatoes. You have some great ideas for using powdered milk. Love them will be trying them myself. Have a blessed evening, stay safe and healthy🙏 🥰👍👌🙏🦅🔔🗽🇺🇸🙏
Thank you for this info. It never occurred to me even to use hot water. Duh. haha In the past when I needed sour cream, I would put cottage cheese in the blender with lemon juice, and it worked great in a bind. I will watch this again and make notes, as I have a lot of powdered milk. Thank you again.
Gordon here, When I was moving into my new home on the farm from a town there was no power here at the time, So I would put my milk, butter, anything into a bucket and put it into the well which was cool like fridge at water level. put a cover on the well to keep out any unwanted out of the well. To keep even cooler I would lower it into water and would keep ice cream firmer and ( put holes in a plastic food grade pail to lower it into water.) The well was fridge till the power came on lol.
I grew up drinking this. Mom mixed the reconstituted dry milk 50/50 with whole raw milk. I haven't tried it since childhood but I do plan to. Thank you for all the ideas.
For evaporated I use 2/3 cup powdered milk and 1 cup of water since evaporated is cooked down to half before canned. I also use artificial sweetening for the condensed milk and don't add the fat. It works well and is better for my diet. I found some videos on you tube for making soft cheeses from powdered milk. Having powdered milk in your pantry is a great addition!!
You are an absolute treasure trove of helpful information. I just love learning on this page! Thank you for putting this out. Your efforts are VERY MUCH appreciated! :) Be blessed.
My mom mixed whole milk with powdered milk when we lived in Turkey. It was hard to get milk so this stretched out our milk. We didn't notice the taste much. Especially in cooking. I'm hoping to get another freezer to freeze as much milk, cheese and hopefully butter as I can. I'm gonna do a taste test for the butter.
@@eyes2see438 On the same row where you give your thumbs up, at the end of that row it says save. It wants you to give it a title so give it anything for a title as you can go back and change the name. Hope that helps! You can keep adding to it and adding to it!!
@@debiscooking9770 I can’t believe I over looked that. 🤦♀️ now that I saved this video, where does it get saved too? When I was to watch it again? Thank you very much 😉🎄
@@eyes2see438 well for my super high technical answer is I don’t know where it goes but I can tell you where to find it. In RU-vid at the very bottom, go to the very far right app that says library and select that. It will show all the videos that you have watched, but over on the left-hand side on the lower left you will see where your saved video is. Look for whatever you named that file. Click on that and it will bring up all of your saved videos. I hope this helps!
gosh after simmering milk all afternoon yesterday for pumpkin pies then having to scrub that pot I never thought to open the pantry and use powdered milk.. I will be doing this from now on! Thank you!! :)
@ Linda Cobb it’s posted above. Differences between instant and powder milk? The instant is more powdery, and usually cost a little bit more. The powder does the same thing, and taste the same. It’s just a little harder to dissolve because the granules are a little bigger. Use hot water to dissolve.
Greetings from New Zealand. Fabulous video, thank you! I only very occasionally use sweetened condensed milk or evaporated milk, and invariably I never seem to have either on hand, but powdered milk is a staple in my pantry. And buttermilk is surprisingly difficult to find here. So this video is just so helpful!
Great video and thank you for the cheat sheet it's very helpful, due to the fact that I have never used powdered milk. Thank you much, it's appreciated. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family 🦃
I have the same blender from QVC, love it, 3 different sizes. Thank You for the measurements on the powder. I cut mine out of the bag to. Blessings !!! ✝️💟
Thank you for this video. I have been storing powdered milk in my pantry along with several cans of protein shake mixes (meal replacements). I grew up drinking powdered milk and it was gross. Now I might have to depend on it during a crisis, so, it is good to know how to use it!
AWESOME Video- REALLY appreciate this one. I had no idea it was so easy to make all these. Also, this is also less expensive as well when you are looking at the condensed sweet milk & the evaporated. TY TYT TY :)
Thank you so much for this video I had no idea how to use powdered milk and especially like that you included all types of shelf stable milk. Super helpful great video Thank you, Thank you, Thank you
hi jinne. Always have powdered milk at our house. We've always called it magic milk. I can't stand drinking it plain but mixed with protein drinks and anything else that's fine with me. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Enjoy your family
Leave in the refrigerator for a couple of hours or overnight. DON’T FORGET TO LABEL THE JARS ===== MILK 1 c hot water 3 T powdered milk SWEET CONDENSED MILK = 14 oz ½ c hot water 1 c powdered milk 1 c sugar 1 T softened butter EVAPORATED MILK 1 ½ hot water ½ c powdered milk BUTTERMILK (sour milk) 1 c hot water ¼ c powdered milk 1 T lemon juice OR distilled white vinegar
Thank you! This has saved me time and money and we all know those are precious commodities. I would love to know where you got your little bottles and caps though. I need some of those.
Great information! I don't think I have all of these recipes. 👍😀 I have that same Ninja. It's really handy to use.😄. Very helpful and useful video. You and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving. God bless. 🍁🌻🍂
I really appreciate your showing us how to make different kinds of milk. Is there anyway you could teach us what the difference kinds of powdered milk is? I'm really afraid that I might have stocked up on the wrong kinds of powdered milk. Thanks for the info
Thank you so very much for this information. I saved this video in my library under sub this for this. You have made life so much easier in the kitchen.
Oh my heavens! Great info. I am starting a recipe book just for all your recipes. Just wrote these down. Does the evaporated milk make one cans worth? My English muffins use a can of evaporated milk.
Thanks for this video. I had no idea you could make so many types of milk from powdered milk! I make a lot of fudge at Christmas and go through a lot of condensed milk. This will save me several dollars! One question. For the evaporated milk, shouldn't there be less water than milk? Or does it thicken when cold?
Was wondering if the powdered milk can be used past its best buy date ..i know can goods can be extended but wasn't sure if the milk powder was safe past the date
Where do you buy powderd milk. I tried finding some local in April with no luck so I ordered it from amazon. I thought it seemed a bit pricey. BTW our area is rationing TP again.
You can find the cans of Nido Fortificada on the Hispanic aisle at Wal-Mart. A can runs a little over 15 bucks but makes several gallons and tastes like regular milk. The only drawback is if you want it for long-term storage it's best by date is only a couple of years compared to Augason Farms 20 year best by date. Consider Nido is half the cost and no surprise dented cans and it's readily available. Again, no funny taste as with most of the powdered milks I've tried.
The instant is more powdery and usually costs a little more.. the powdered does the same thing and tastes the same, just a little harder to desolve because its a little bigger. But hot water does the trick. ;)
Thank you for this info. You should use a rubber spatula to scrape the mixing bowl to get out as much as possible. You are wasting nutrients which is a bad role model!
