This video helped me understanding the usage of the peel ply, breather, or bleeder, and the vacuum bagging. Thanks a lot.

Great video thank you! Question, the two part polyurethane paint you applied first in lieu of gel coat. how is the adhesion to the fiberglass? will this work equally well with epoxy resin or polyester resin?

Outstanding ! Always wonder how peel ply could ever be removed ..resin leaks through pores, join up and locks it down ! O_o

only issue I see here is you should have cut the breather cloth larger so that it goes all the way to the tube inlet. No point of the breather if the vacuum gets trapped/stuck by the bag at the inlet.

I think a mold with a mold flange and use of vacuum bag tape or butyl tape is better for larger parts and probably more efficient as far as materials go. While the tape may cost more than silicone, it's more effective for creating pleates without making a mess with the silicone and potentially getting it on the mold or the part.

interessante. usando pintura polyester com resina epoxy. imaginei que fosse rolar uma delaminacao no desmolde. vou comecar a aplicar verniz no molde antes de fazer infusao de carbono agora pra ver o que da. obrigado pela dica.
@3DTechMaquetes
@3DTechMaquetes 5 лет назад
Na verdade o verniz é PU. Eu nunca pintei poliéster no molde, mas não imagino que possa causar problemas.

@3DTechMaquetes

Yes, the same process. The carbon fiber must be a 90/90 weave, a bidirectional cloth.

What you can do is a hot box. I have done one several years ago and set the temperature to 55 Celsius degrees. You should see the resin specs, but for hobby I beleive it does not make much difference.

What kind of paint is that? Do you mean gelcoat? Is it capable to withstand with epoxy exotherm?
@3DTechMaquetes
@3DTechMaquetes 5 лет назад
I used PU paint. The same used to paint cars. I had no problems with the heat.
@Stellarffxi
@Stellarffxi 3 года назад
He painted the mold, not the fiberglass part. A mold could be painted with any kind of glossy surface finish, doesn't really matter. A gelcoat would be used as the first layer in a fiberglass or carbon layup, as gelcoats can dry without exposure to atmosphere.. When you remove the finished mold, the gelcoat would be the outside layer that you see...
@Ritvick_Sharma
@Ritvick_Sharma 8 месяцев назад
I have a question. So when you are removing the air from the mold. You check the vacuum gauge for the vacuum created. When you reach the desired vacuum how do you close the vacuum bag hose ensuring that air doesn't enter into the bag?

Why are you using silicon. Takes more time to go off that the resin. Use butyl tape. Sticks instantly. Doesnt leak air

@@3DTechMaquetes I agree butyl tape is probably better in a number of ways, but it can also be a pain in the butt sometimes to find and fix leaks, especially if the tape has gotten dirty or been exposed to resin...
