How to view & save Tapo camera live stream on PC/Laptop VLC Player through RTSP stream

Thanks a lot, that was very helpful. ps for ubuntu (22.04) users: vlc installed via official package source could not read the network stream, but with the snap-install it works out of the box.

Just a note that on Linux Mint the current system package version 3.0.16 of VLC fails to work with this method, but the flatpak version 3.0.20 onwards works fine.

I feel like I'm so close! I can get my camera streaming just fine when I open the stream, but after 'Converting' it only saves the audio. There's no video track when I view the saved video in VLC but the audio does playback. I have the Tapo C200 camera.

why an RTSP Authentication ask "please enter a valid login name and password"?

it doesnt work. VLC asks for RTSP authentication with username and password

After many tries, it worked ... just don't type RSTP instead of RTSP as I did ;)
