Every time I sit down to one of your videos, it's like there's just you and me. Chatting, walking and shooting the scene. It's all about the moment, isn't it? Peace my friend.
Hey Paul. Thats simply an awesome ting to say. Must try and remember that when im shooting the next lot of vids (which i obviously havent shot yet)! LOL Kind regards, Ewan
Thanks Matt. I hope I can make content out tof the rest of the trip and strangely, I havent even looked at the images yet. It will all depend on how they turn out! LOL Ewan
Stunning Ewan, love it, I'm heading South for three weeks in May, cannot wait. Only been once before for a brief visit, was blown away then so to spend longer this time has me buzzing. Cracking video mate love it. regards Paul
Have to say mate I'm in total awe at the way you communicate to the camera when others are around that's totally alien to me, as is to be fair verbal communication in general. Top work fella. Looking forward to future episodes.
Stunningly beautiful video Ewan thank you so much for sharing. Well, well, worth the early rise to be rewaeded with such a beautiful landscape. God Bless
Although you said the forecast was for inclement weather, I am glad you decided to stick with your plan to photograph the area. The images are Spectacular. Thank you for sharing.
Morning John. Many thanks Man. There were two mornings on this trip, which i nearly never got up for, both of which yielded some incredible sights. This one... and another at Mount cook in a glacial river at 2:06 You are welcome and thanks for watching! Ewan
It certainly is a great time to visit all the iconic photography locations in NZ with so few people taking selfies. My recent trip south was a washout weather wise but it didnt really matter as my WHY is just being there absorbing the feeling. Thanks Ewan
Hey Andrew. It was pleasant to have these locations much to myself, and although this was fantastic - the light and the weather during the trip certainly wanst conducive to taking primo shots. And NO SNOW!!! LOL Ewan
Absolutely stunning!!! I always get excited when a notification appears when you have a new video up!!.. We sure do live in an incredible country.: Hope to see you out there somewhere sometime 👌😁
Thanks Michael. I really enjoy doing these when i get feedback from this who take time out of their busy schedules, to watch. I enjoy the pace of the vids that i do manage to do for those willing to watch! LOL
It's always a treat to watch your films Ewan and interesting how you show your thought process as it happens and the things you consider as the shoot progresses. All that aside, the films always have a very tranquil feel about them that helps to calm the soul. The images at the end...well...they are really beautiful.
Thanks Simon. Always good to get your feedback buddy! This one felt quite tranquil i think as i didnt actually shoot enough b roll, nor really have a storyline. The light changed quickly which prevented me droning on too long anyway. A relaxing spot though which can only make you appreciative, reflective, and just watch the mountains. Thanks again Simon. Ewan
Oh how I long to get back there! Like one of the previous comments, I aways look forward to your VLOGS and beautiful images. THE WHY.... a fantastic question, peace, reflection, capturing a moment in time to be able to share it with others, slowing down to appreciate the place & time & so much more. Loved the 3 images.... Next year perhaps. Cheers! PS: I know a well known landscape photographer who was agoraphobic and doing this genre of photography helped him overcome his fear.
Hey Phil. Thanks very much buddy. Always appreciate your ongoing support too. Its this stuff that keeps me going with it. I wasnt sure if this would work as a vid, as i had no plan, no storyline... but just went out and was a little self indulgent with it this time = l Be good to see you back again. Regards, Ewan
What a lovely behind the scenes style video with your usual high quality videography, commentary and photography. You certainly know how to make me jealous of your location ! Great film friend
Hey Krishna. A phrase i found myself saying when i was on this trip is... "the most important part fo Photography... is actually taking photographs. = ) Kindest regards. Ewan
Beautiful Lake Matheson, i remember so wel on a glorious morning with some fog dancing over the lake and against the mountains....one of my all time favorite image in took there. Your video (beautiful filmed in docu style) show the real beauty from it. Your last words tell the whole story....not only the shooting, but being there and see the beauty of the landscape itself!
Another stunning video, with awesome commentary. I'll never get to NZ, but when I watch your videos I am alongside you. I have only got into photography in the last year or so, but being a tree lover all my life, woodland photography has me hooked.
Hey Mike. Thanks man. Appreciated. The channel was originally started to cater for thise who will never get to see NZ... as its here to be shared in what ever way we can ! Best wishes, and good luck with the continued growth with the camera. Regards, Ewan
You are so lucky to live in an amazing country with epic landscapes, beautiful people and a truly inspiring leader. Big fan of Ms Ardern. Will be following your photography journey across the island and will be thinking of "why I take photographs".
No one does it better! Even in such difficult circumstances. And I think there is no better way to show the beauty of this country! ...and your vlogs are always so refreshing and honest. And they always keep me going on in my own photography. And my WHY...? To show other people this beautiful world, as I see it with my eyes and let them be a part of it. Thank you for your great work and I am looking out for the next vlog.
Hey Thomas. Sounds like a James Bond movie title! lol Many thanks mate - the logistics of doing all of these vids, was hyper stressful, and this was the BEGINNING of the trip. Just watch the way I fall apart in the next few! LOL Nice 'your why'! by the way. The world is here to be shared. Regards, Ewan
Stunningly beautiful videography and images as usual. I hope to be able to visit New Zealand again sometime. In answer to your question - I have always loved the outdoors, spending time walking and kayaking, in often remote locations. Photography was a way to share these adventures and experiences with my family and friends. As I have grown older photography as become a more creative experience, almost meditative, way to reconnect with nature. Hopefully this makes sense. Thank you for sharing. I look forward to your next video and images. Cheers.
Hey John, always nice to see your continued comments on these. Hope this hit some mark! Glad to hear your why, as this is pretty similar to mine - ) Best wishes John. Ewan
Thanks Ewan, Great Vlog. Fox/Lake Mathierson is well worth putting the time in to visit. There are so many options for great images in that area. Cheers T
Just visited Lake Matheson a week ago. shot both sunset and sunrise, sunset seemed to be a better bet here provided there's no wind. The sun sets In the west behind you lighting up the southern alps with a gorgeous pink/red glow.
Hi Hayden - sure is a cool place huh!? I did shoot a sunset there one time too and the pink light on mount tasman and the foreground is lovely, but there was also heaps of cloud obscuring the view! = ) Ewan
Been looking forward to this, as missed out on a South Island motorhome trip in May due to covid...hopefully we can get back to NZ sometime soon. Thanks for a stunning video Ewan :)
@@EwanDunsmuirImages Sure is mate...had a rushed 14 days in 2019, squeezing a lot in and really looking forward to getting back and slowing right down and just enjoying the natural beauty and trying to capture a little bit of it. Keep up the great work!
Very nice video Ewan, in next one add more about onscene camera settings and instant changes due to light/weather conditions. Best of luck. ( from Karachi, Pakistan)
Hey Tanweer. Thats a good point. This one was however, very relaxed and wanted it to be more causal than that this time, but point take on board! Next time! = ) Thanks for watching! Regards Ewan
Hi Ewan your images of New Zealand are incredible best I've seen AMAZING well done no wonder you moved there. In your opininion I'd like to know when you believe is the best time to visit NZ for photography to get some snow on the peaks in the North island in particular. Now Australia will have a travel bubble with NZ I was hoping to do get over for 8 days. I'd really appreciate your reply and advice, look forward to hearing from you soon. Cheers Eric
Hi Eric. Thanks fir the view and the comment. I’d say, to guarantee snow in the mountains in the north island- you would need to be looking at August, or maybe July. This would allow you to see snow on the central plateau. Hope that helps. Ewan
Hi Ewan I've just realized I asked you about the North Island but I meant the South Island, Queenstown, Milford Sound etc my apologies mate. Cheers Eric
Hi Eric. No dramas. Anything in the South Island (South South) from July through to October. Late August is deep winter but there can be too much snow and can spoil a view too. No guarantees though. The mountains are around 2500-3000m in the south and hence have snow on them most of gtje year but Stockton’s winter as it’s simply... stunning
Eric. I meant to say too- during the period this vid was shot, there was unseasonably little snow across nz at this time and should have been much whiter than it was. E
Definitely looking forward to this location. I know there will be many other photographers there though. Would have been great to get there a couple of years ago but unfortunately even us Aussies weren't allowed in. Reflecting on why I take photographs... It makes my soul sing. With landscape photography it is that opportunity to get out into nature. Nature is healing for the soul and as a mental health nurse, it is solace.
Many thanks Joseph - I appreciate that and the support! Ill et to work in the next couple of weeks on padding out a plan for the next one, which is a little light in content! "She'll be right"! LOL Regards, Ewan
HI Ewan - new subscriber here and wanted you to know how much I am enjoying your videos. really inspiring stuff - thank you! cheers to you from Toronto !
Really stunning landscape. I have asked myself that question -- why do I do this? As an amateur it is not for money. I have found that over the last 4 years of learning photography, I see the world differently. I notice more details. I see more beauty. As you said in your video, it gets me out into the world. Great video; happy to be a subscriber on your channel.
I just loved this video Ewan. It actually made me quite emotional watching it. We were booked to come to New Zealand in April/May this year to explore and photograph the South Island for 5 weeks but due to Covid we had to postpone our trip. I really look forward to watching all of your videos and one day when we can travel again we will come to New Zealand in a heartbeat! Thank you for sharing your beautiful photos, just stunning. Take care. 😊
Hey Angie - Keep the focus on the prize and you will get back here one day soon. Hope it was emotions of pleasure, and not anything else! Regards, Ewan
Hi Ewan... yes definitely good emotions! We can't wait to visit! We live in Australia so hopefully it won't be too long before we can come over to NZ again. 🤞😉
Brilliant! Thanks so much!! Yes we're hoping next year too. We've been before but it was a bit rushed last tims so this next trip will be more relaxed with 5 weeks to just explore and take lots and lots of photos! Thanks again for the offer! Stay safe. 😊
LOL, Lovely spot indeed. Wait until you see Tasman Glacial lake vid in a few weeks! ; ) Next year - hopefully the borders should be back open again! = ) Ewan
@@EwanDunsmuirImages I'll watch that next! I'm planning to go in November or December for 90 days! Can't wait. I have pushed the trip already 2 times into the future. I just want to go!
Why? For me it started with enjoying being out in nature, then I thought it would be good to draw or paint things I saw, then finding out I wasn't good enough and getting a camera. But being out in nature is probably more important for me, looking finds things to photograph, but I can enjoy looking without feeling the need for a photograph. Cheers Marshall
Amazing video love that question why? Keep going with videos like this and you will get a million subscribers before you know it. But something tells me your not here for the subscribers.
Hi David. Thanks very much indeed. I think im in my groove almost now with these vids and do enjoy them... although they do stress me out! LOL Definitely not on here for the subscriber count, although is nce to have people put faith in you by following the channel. I appreciate your feedback! = ) Regards, Ewan
