In this video, I visit the Sacred Monkey Forest in Ubud, Bali. The Monkey Forest is a sanctuary for Macaques. Over 600 monkeys live here. It's one of the most popular attractions in all of Bali. The Monkey Forest is also known as Mandala Suci Wenara Wana.
This place is beautiful. It's extremely lush. There are monkeys running and jumping all over the place. There is also a beautiful temple to visit. It's nice seeing the monkeys run free. They aren't in cages.
It does get kind of sketchy. Because the monkeys are so used to people, they have no fear. They sometimes jump on people and steal their belongings. You have to watch your stuff. I read stories about monkeys getting kind of aggressive. Particularly during feeding time. I was a little bit sketched out by this. The monkeys were pretty calm when I was there. When they were being fed, they got a bit excited. It is a bit intimidating when they're running around chasing each other. If you keep your distance and don't get too close, they won't bother you.
I walked to the Monkey Forest from my Airbnb. It was a pretty far walk but I wanted to see the city. I visited the Monkey Forest shortly after I arrived.
I arrived in the early afternoon at around 2. There was a short line for tickets. I didn't have to wait more than 5 minutes. I paid for my ticket in cash. Cards are also accepted.
The Monkey Forest is pretty easy to navigate. There are maps and signs throughout the park. It's a pretty big area but you can see it all in a couple of hours. There are a few main trails to walk. The trails are all paved and in good condition. You don't have to do any hiking. Just walking.
I spent about 2 hours in the Monkey Forest and I feel that I saw it all. I highly recommend a visit here. It was one of my favorite places I visited in Bali.
