I think that's a big problem with a lot of creators that are having trouble growing. Like you said, "Spinning your wheels, and wasting your time". People automatically assume that an audience will be hooked onto whatever they make, when in reality, they lack an exciting story behind what they're vlogging about.
Thanks!!! I tried to pack a ton into this video rather than breaking it up into a bunch of mini videos. Easier to learn if you just sit down and focus for the hour
Man, it was so interesting and instructive. I learned so much about vlogging and about making my videos more engaging. Thank you for taking the time to break everything down and to discuss every part of the vlogging experience in detail. This video is a must-watch for anyone who wants to take up or improve vlogging. MANY THANKS! Now I'm gonna go put all those tips into practice! 🤗
I primarily make tutorial videos, specifically blacksmithing education. Finding the sweet spot between providing all of the information needed and getting into way to much detail is pretty tough. I would love to see the tutorial version of this style video.
@@RuskinSeabrook That's built-in. Look in the lower right corner of the video window. Find the thumb up/down, Share, Save, & three dots ("more"). Click once on the three dots and select Open transcript. You can copy/paste and make your own checklist.
Hi Jeven, hope you are doing good. I have learnt a lot from you about vlogging and stuff to start my RU-vid channel. Thanks a lot and keep on doing what you are doing.
When I first saw how long this was I was like 😳. But because of the topic I actually watched the whole thing.... cuz I really suck at vlogging and it’s something I really want to get good at. Very helpful information here thanx!
I felt the exact same. But i cast it to the TV, grabbed some snacks and sat back and took it all in. I've added some of your videos to my watch list for later, see if i like them. Just done a few travel vlogs ourselves.
Fun with DAD I only watch RU-vid on my TV.... I like the bigger screen. Really? My videos? 😯 thank you! The videos I have on this channel aren’t vlog style per se (I was still nervous about being in front of the camera)... but I have one in the works that I can use some of Jevon’s tips. I will definitely check your channel out too.
I've been interrupted twice and had to start over from the beginning ! I'll probably watch it all the way through and then watch it again while taking notes. I'm good at working a camera job but suck at storytelling and that's why I'm here. This guy is good !
Ive been getting bogged down between creating ‘the perfect story’ as opposed to just hitting record and learning the art of storytelling as I go along. Great video buddy! 💪🏼
Yo... I am terrible at storytelling, but after watching this, I now have an idea as to what to do, a rough guide on how to craft my videos and how to approach it. I've been looking for this for god knows how long! Jeven, thank you! You are a legend!
dang that final cut is sweet. im using capcut and getting really good at it, but it would be so much sweeter to do it like u. im def gona follow u. *I LOVE HOW U BROKE EVERYTHING DOWN*
Love your special guest at 1:01:27, teach them to edit while they're young! Just watched the whole video, it was inspiring! I'm a retired wedding editor, just riding around the country side with my dog trying to give my grandkids something to remember us by. I really enjoyed your vlog, it refreshed my memory of what's really important, and that's content. I'm old school, which explains my long edits, but I keep current with Final Cut, and it gives me something to do with my time. I've been struggling with telling the story, mainly because I don't spend the planning stages like you mentioned up front. I kind of get out there and hit record and see what I have to work with at the end of the day. Well, that's going to change thanks to your tutorial. I appreciate it!
This is a fantastic video, thank you!! I really struggle with the story telling and putting it all together so this was super inspiring and I learned a lot. Thank you again, and all the best, Jay
The story is KING. The footage, the camera angles (POV), the elements (surroundings) around the Vlog, the persona of the character/creator it’s all revolving around the story.. Casey says the story is king & the edit makes the story, quote, “Edit is everything”. - Casey Neistat Thanks for making this video. Definitely helps!
I just had to pause and express a huge thank you to Jeven Dovey 🔥🔥🔥. I feel like I'm learned more in the past 24 hours of power watching your content than any of the other courses combined. Looking forward to more content from you!
Literally to the 1% who's reading this, God bless you , stay safe NEW RU-vidRS we love this channel great vibes keep up the good work god bless and stay safe love this channel
You know bud , the most interesting part to me , in this video , is that you are wearing a cap indoors but not when the sun is punishing you out on the peak of the hill.
I write a script. Every time. The reason why I’m not “successful” is that I have cerebral palsy and a speech impediment. The reason I am successful is that I’m a guy with cerebral palsy and a speech impediment on RU-vid and there should be diversity on RU-vid I’m going to post this on my actual RU-vid channel too. This is my premium account.
i watched the whole thing, i’ve been wanting to start vlogging but my current profession makes it impossible for me to do so. Anyways, this is inspiring because i can feel your dedication and when your kid went in I felt like it was magic. Keep it up sir and thank you for this.
Look who I found! I'm trying to step up my upcoming March 2022 ski trip video and I'm gathering tips for pre-planning my shoots. I also like to scroll through the comments for tips, ideas, suggestions, etc.
I love that! I have put off for years just making simple videos because I feel so overwhelmed when I watch all of these vloggers who put so much effort into what I consider complicated videos because I’m not very technical so thank you for your comment that really frees me up. Now onto trying to understand my thousand dollar camera, instead of using my iPhone. 🙏💚🤷🏿♀️
Thanks for the masters class in vlogging! I recently started creating mini stories in a future vlog and then I realized I actually am missing a lot of stuff or its boring. This tutorial is helping me glue things together for future vlogs and patch up my older ones. Thanks!
As someone who makes very structured, scripted and planned (and technical) videos, the idea of a Vlog has always scared me, but it's been the one thing that I really really want to do - but when I actually go to do it, I feel totally stupid. This video hands down has de-mystified the whole process. Thank you so much for the video Jeven. I've was watching your videos at least two years before I started my channel. This came into my feed at the right moment. I need to push myself to the next level and I think Vlogs or Vlog style could be the thing to do it. Thank. You.
This was an incredible learning experience! You kept my attention throughout the whole video. I appreciate what you are doing and plan on watching many, many more of your videos. Thanks so much!
I'm a budding RU-vidr from India my contents are exactly Hiking, Trekking, Adventure touring your video is kind of Bible for me , it'll help me for creating great stories thank you so much❤
Thank you so much for this! Started my adventure vlog channel last year and I certainly struggled with the storyboarding aspect. Last year I was just approaching my vlogs with a "hit record and go" mentality. Carefully planning, directing, and setting a tone with the story is absolutely crucial. Plan to rewatch this video multiple times!
The Gospel of salvation of our souls: 💜💕💜💖💞💜💕For what I received I passed on to you as of [first importance]: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time,
A recent epiphany for me was that I need to make all of my content, even tutorials, in a vlogging/storytelling style to help connect with my audience. This was an immense help to do that.
hey man, did you already make a video about the template creation for video editing software? I know its simple but would really appreciate your point of view on that subject as well.
This one was a big help thank you bro. I also agree with the creating a new channel to continue to film and tell a story rather than just teaching people. There’s your caveat and you are highly aware man I took that note outta your book 🙏🏽
Dear God🙏♥️💕 in heaven, I come to you in the name of Jesus. I acknowledge to You that I am a sinner, and I am sorry for my sins and the life that I have lived; I need your forgiveness. I believe that your only begotten Son Jesus Christ shed His precious blood on the cross at Calvary and died for my sins, and I am now willing to turn from my sin. You said in the bible that if we confess the Lord our God and believe in our hearts that God raised Jesus from the dead, we shall be saved. Right now I confess Jesus as my Lord. With my heart, I believe that God raised Jesus from the dead. This very moment I accept Jesus Christ as my own personal Savior and according to His Word, right now I am saved. Amen.
So appreciate the dedication! I know exactly what's it's like to have a 5 month old AND still have to work. Getting up at 6 am to film this - thank you for this! Just wanted to let you know that your effort is appreciated!
Thank you for this video. I just watched it and took notes. Personally I teach hospitality management at the University of Arkansas. The pandemic pushed us to online instruction. I took that as an opportunity to take my students virtually to some wonderful hotels, restaurants, bars, etc. (that are open) all across the country. I've been struggling with engagement and creating content that is 'where my students are'. That is, in a form they are comfortable with. To me, that means lessons and lectures should be a series of stories told through video. As the world opens up, I am scheduling trips to destinations, resorts, festivals, etc. to illustrate (video) concepts and examples. So... again, thank you. This information is helping me with my content creation.
MAKING A TEMPLATE PROJECT!!! Why have I not done this yet????!?!?! ha ha!!! I am so dumb - great pro tip. And dude, the way you broke down story. I mean, I loved it!! So many people go on and on about story is king, but you've actually told us how to achieve it - RESPECT!! THANK YOU SO MUCH! This is my fav video of yours and I'm sure I'll revisit it. Also, a video on how to do reviews in a fun and interesting way would be helpful like you mentioned -so if you got the time to make it, I'd watch it :) Thanks Jeven!
This was a fantastic masterclass on vlogging. I really appreciate your breakdown of how to think through the story, how to setup, how and why you captured various shots, and why you selected each shot during the editing process. Thank you so much for this thorough explanation of the video storytelling process.
im blessed that your video delivered to my screen at the very beginning of my youtube adventure… thank you so much for the effort you put in the video… it is like bible of content creating… need to watch several times not to miss anything… moving to the next one, b rolls… once again, thank you so much…
Hope it helps! Make sure you check out my full RU-vid Growth Academy on the Creatofilmschool.com. Thats where I teach a ton more about growing a RU-vid channel
This video was exceptional. I've been looking for ways to tell a story in my videos for a long time. Yes, many videos out there talk about story-telling, but I did not know how to apply it to my own somewhat spontaneous content: hiking, backpacking, and the like. Until now, I just filmed along the way and strung the shots together to "craft" a story, but doing the research and planning never really came to my mind. This will truly make a difference in my future videos. I wonder how to create a story if all you have is different footage without planning ahead of time or what happens if you plan a hike to a location, but then something extraordinary happens along the way, and THAT becomes your climax in the video. All of it really just takes practice. Thanks again for your detailed videos. They truly help me become a better filmmaker myself. I'm working through your storytelling playlist right now.
Thanks! you explained everything very well and comprehensively. Its right on time, this is what I was looking for :-) because I'm set to go for another Vlog ;-)
Excelente tips, muchas gracias por el contenido. He visto todo con subtítulo en español y he tomado algunas notas. Gracias una vez más, saludos desde Texas!
Ok I’m obsessed with your content, so amazingly clear and concise. But how do you do this weekly?! How often do you suggest posting if this is your goal?
Very nice tutorial! Thanks for the effort! It would be very interesting to make a tutorial specific on how to make drone shots: the planning, framing, were to take off and land, how long to shoot... It is such an special crafty subject, that I think it deserves an episode for itself
Amazing video mate I've just started filming my spearfishing days an since watching this I can see I mist so many opportunitys to make mine more appealing! Thank you
Great video, thanks for all the tips. Please, Please, Please find a safer way to film while driving. As a fellow road user, your technique of filming in the car scares me for both those around you and yourself. All it takes is one moment of distraction and you or someone else could be badly hurt.
just hopping here to say im really interested in the editing templates you mentioned at 39:30!! Would love a video on this :) Thanks for the amazing video, this is helping me so much!!!
Wow, full kudos for putting this video together. I love seeing other people’s process and I will have to say yours is super helpful. Thanks for all the tips. Definitely put more of this type of breakdown up
Hey Jeven, I want to say I truly appreciate the quality content you're putting out there and that watching your videos has been helping me learn about the RU-vid creation process. Mission accomplished! Keep on doing you :)
Hello Jeven. I run a photo channel where I do tutorials but also tell you about my photo trips. In your opinion, is it better to run two separate channels or can they coexist?
That was an amazing informative tip on How to Vlog & Tell a Story For Beginners From 💖Start To Finish. I loved it, and worth watching until the end of this video a bunch of learning here! Watching from Jeddah KSA. Old friends here from the Philippines!😍👍🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
Hey bro, great video! Thanks! Quick question, at 38:30 you mentioned that you do an individual "project" for each video, but it appears to be an individual Final Cut Library for each video. Is it actually an individual library for each video you do? If so, why not multiple "projects" inside of the library? Really appreciate your content!
Thanks for this awesome video Sir! I am soaking up all this info as we venture out into Vlog world! So much to learn, but I know with your help and teaching vids like this, we will continue to grow! Keep making awesome material and God Bless you and your Household!
This video was so great. I’ve been watching all sorts of vids on photo and video production, mostly for RU-vid. From lighting, to staging, to editing, and more. This video was, by its own declaration, some of the best, most important content I’ve seen yet. Storytelling, layed out from start to finish. I learned why, and how, I can use storytelling to create compelling videos about even the most simple ideas.
