These tips don't apply to any other type of filmmaking, but this is a great video for someone who wants to start shooting skateboarding with one of the older sd cameras. the vx will always have a place in my heart, haha.. nice video!

this is cool! As a film student its interesting to hear him talking about specks and settings in basic non-film vocabulary so its quicker and easier to understand to those who are new or not film makers

When he talked about the "colour and sharpness"-part I really noticed the difference between Beagle's VX-SD-Videography-Advice and Hernandez's DSLR-HD-Cinematography-Advice. While Beagle wants to get the best image in camera to just put the clips together, Hernandez wants to get a flat look so he has more options for colour-grading in post. The VX is great for filming edits that give you that 80s/90s vibe, while HD cameras give you the chance to get a more cinematic look. It's not about the camera .. it's about your preferences and skills. At the end of the day you could shoot a video in 4k on a RED Dragon and still give it that 80s/90s vibe (e.g. the street-part in "Wet Dream: A Skateboard Tale").

I'm glad Beagle is successful. I was referring to more of his understanding of white balance, sharpening, color, shutter speed, and aperture - all of which he seems to have a pragmatic understanding of (within the vx1000), but on the other hand now it makes complete sense why he wouldn't switch to a different camera: he wouldn't know how to use it.

This is awesome! I'm amazed that there are still some videographers that prefer standard definition. I still shoot with a Canon GL-1

I have a VX, here are some corrections, 1. The "secret focus" button is for Infinate Focus. it has no depth of field. foreground and background are in focus. 2. Never boost the color and sharpness all the way up, you do that later in post, color correcting later is easier, if the footy isnt already blown out. 3. the shutter speed, should always be around double what your frame rate is, if you are shooting 30fps, your shutter should be at least 60. higher shutter for slo mo clarity. LEARN F STOPS

The way Beagle films is legendary. When I was younger I would of loved to have him film a line for me, He deserves allot of respect. Baker boys still relevant, We don't want any HD in skateboarding videos.Nothing against HD it;s just the way it is. That grainy look is beautiful. Always hated when my line or set was done and it was my turn to film, I would wake up more busted from the filming rather then the spills I would take at Municipal, Love, plaza, the bank, and the other scouted areas we would find. We just filmed for fun, and a skate video should be that way. Zoomin with that fish!

For people that are interested and doesn't know. The "F" is the size of the aperture. High number = small aperture. Low number = big aperture. Small aperture = Not much light coming. Big aperture = Much light coming in.

mfw calls vignetting vendetting and F-Stops "F's"

F-stop is manual sharpening, so if you can, you wanna set it low as possible for max sharpness. Otherwise you’re digitally sharpening. The f-stop number means how closed the lens iris is (more closed is higher number which is sharper, more open which is lower number is more light and less sharp).

Im not sure if he's being serious. when he's talking about the 'f number' as tho he has no idea what aperture is or what it does and a low shuter speed doesn't give you a grainy look although it will start to blur the footage.

got outta filming n photography a few yrs ago bc of all the new shit..but man these were the days 1 or 2 lenses, a few setting adjustments all internal processing shit was beautifully simple

how did he find all these secrets it's crazy, when I had my VX I had to figure out most of this stuff or from my TV Production teacher, but then I sold it. Yo, Beagle's a lot better at this than I thought he'd be.

I wish everyone would explain things the way beagle does, Makes it much easier for me to understand.
