Thanks for the videos man, I'm in the Marine Corps currently I'm going to get out in less than 2 years from now, hoping to walk on to Arizona State Univesity, I'm 6'5 and 260lbs currently trying to either play Defensive end or Tight end. Thanks for the great content.
Hey same bro I'm in the infantry in the army and i'm on deployment right now i get back in 4 months and gonna walk on at University of Cincinnati, I'm also 6'5 240 looking to be a tight end or a D end
A vary good friend of mine who I played football with in high school walked in at LSU. He was an exceptional freak of an athlete, to put it bluntly. Unfortunately, we played at a very small class 1A school ( Louisiana has 1A - 5A, - 5A being the largest. He actually made the team and dressed for a few games, but knew he was never really going to play much at all. Long story short, he transferred to Nicholls State, ( 1AA school ) and walked on and they immediately gave him a scholarship and became their starting fullback. Like you said, good things can happen if you are willing to work hard for it
That's awesome! Yep different paths work for different people too - just depends what you goals are. All worthwhile paths require incredible hard work though that is for sure!
I’m 6”8 260 played OT until 10th grade due to health problems and Covid ruined my varsity years. Lost 100lbs got healthy now I’m gonna train hard for a year, lean bulk to 290 and try to walk on. Thanks for the feedback
I played football for the very first time this year (Senior year). I made it to 2nd string on Varsity as a WR. Ive grown to absolutely love the game and the atmosphere. something has been telling me to just go for it and try to play in college somewhere, but I have no idea where to start and frankly I dont know if it would be worth it since I dont have any Film of myself to back me up. and I havent even looked into college academically. watching this did keep the spirit in me to still think about trying. Loved the video and GO BUCKS 🌰
Thanks Clay For This Information It’s So Many Click Bait And Confusing Videos and Coming From An Honest Individual Who Actually Made The Team As A Walk On At THE Ohio State University Is An Amazing Experience and Accomplishment In It’s Self You Are A Real Life RUDY and I Know Your GrandFather Is Proud Of You.
I’m going into the Air Force I’ll be out once I’m like 24 or 25 I’ve got a chip on my shoulder from high school doing all the research I can now so I know what to expect…but no doubt your a true inspiration💯💪🏾
I’m trying to walk on somewhere. I’ve finished my sophomore year without going in on a single varsity play but man I know I’ve been working and I think I got what it takes. I’ve also learned to longsnap to try and put myself in a better position for success in addition to Safety. This was inspiring
Go make it happen brother. I didn't play as a sophomore in HS either. But I worked my ass off and became an all conference / district corner leading state in interceptions by my senior year. So don't think about walking on yet...you have 2 more years of MASSIVE potential for development in HS. The biggest 2. You need to find a way to play where you are now, that's step one. Get in the gym. Talk to the coaches. Specialize in something the team needs and become the BEST in the state at it. Don't run away from where you are right now by thinking of walking on. These next 2 years will determine if you have what it takes to walk on somewhere. Win where your feet are.
Really appreciate you sharing your experience! My son will be Walking onto Marshall’s football team in fall of 22. He’s a Runningback and unfortunately tore his acl in the 3rd game of his Senior year. He’s a hard worker and was back running track and winning districts in the 4x100 6 months later!! He still had D2 offers after the injury but knows he can play D1, so he made the decision to take a gap year and continue training until fall to pursue his dreams. You’re videos are giving us a great idea of what he needs to do to be successful, so thank you again 🤙 CJ Fazio, remember that name..he’s got a bright future!!
@@clayraterman Priceless bro! Inside knowledge of knowing what to expect helps a lot with what to train for, and walking on confidently! He’s played ball all his life and not only has the football talent and numbers but lives a life in line with his work ethic. Was Captain his Senior year, 5’10” 200lbs. Squats 500lbs, cam do about 18-20 reps at 225. I forget his shuttle time but was clocked at a 4.53 40. I’m sure he’s faster now. Spends 5 days a week in the gym and 2 days on the field. I’ll definitely tell him to reach out to you if he has any questions! Any other help or information you can give us would be greatly appreciated!! I can give you my email if that’s cool with you.
@@MarkFaz72 Sure thing - send it over to clayrat25@gmail.com I'll shoot you some stuff! Sounds like he's doing all the right things though - tell him to take one day at a time
@@clayraterman Well it’s been a long and winding road but MISSION COMPLETE!!!! CJ has successfully walked onto the Marshall University football team 🥳 Team meeting Thursday and workouts start the 17th. Thank you very much for making these vids and for your advice!
I graduated at 16 I’m about to be 17 in 2 weeks. I’ve never played football a day in my life but I started watching the sport and fell in love because I felt I could do it . Since I’ve already graduated highschool...any advice for a young one like me ? And outstanding video btw 🔥💯
Dang you graduated highschool early! My advice would be to go play the sport if you still can at a school or rec league and then if you like it try and enroll in a college and attempt to walk on somewhere! Doesn't mean you're gonna make it or even like it haha, but definitely worth a shot!
Never played football a day in my life due to my dedication and focus to wrestling. It’s always been a dream of mine and I’m going to attempt to walk onto Ohio University. It’s always been a childhood dream to be a bobcat and this helped me understand the process much more than anybody else. However there is one issue though….Go Blue!
I’m in my senior year of highschool now and regret not playing football before covid took 2 years away and this year I moved to Texas and can’t enroll because my vax record are lost. I’m now training myself because even though i’m 5’10 I believe I’m physical and smart enough to play linebacker but I know it’ll be a battle. I’m also white so assume my 40 times will not be good so i’m scared of trying corner even though I haven’t ran one yet. Texas has some great programs so you’ve really given me some inspiration to pursue this dream even without film since middle school i’ve had. If it ever comes to fruition i’ll return and if not i’ll also do my best to remember and share my experience for any others looking to walk on or thinking it’s too late
Btw this is such a well made video and your story is amazing bro i’m so happy for you thank you so much for opening my eyes to try this before it’s too late it’s about midnight but i’m about to find some db/linebacker drills and work on them would you recommend safety? I don’t expect you to respond but if you do I’d definitely appreciate some feedback i’m 5’10 200 so I might have to slim down
@@JohnBeBaked Goodluck man!! The position you try to play is mainly predicated on your size, speed, and skills so I'm not sure. Usually they end up just putting you wherever they need people anyway as long as you match the right profile for it.
@@clayraterman Nice to know thanks for the information I’ll do some research on players who’ve made it to the league around 5’10 for position ideas just don’t want to be off guard in case I somehow make it on a team thanks a lot
@@JohnBeBaked haha you're looking for the wrong info man! Just pick whatever is most natural for that size at the college level. Even better if you know the roster of the team and where they are "light" on players so you have a better chance to make it on a college team not to the league.
@@clayraterman great advice lol I don’t really have any teams in mind I was thinking it might be plausible to try d2 or 3 and then transfer to d1 if I was ever able to impress I know the odds are small though 🤣 how often did you get playing time if you don’t mind me asking? I just know Ohio State is one of probably the top 3 colleges next to Alabama lol
I’m 5’11 215 pound running back I got to play in high school some but had some complications with family and missed 1 year of school so I was in wasnt eligible this year to play football and other problems ofc I’m getting my diploma and now I plan on walking on to a d1 school this coming year
When I was in school they were first week of fall semester and first week of spring semester (so August and January) Depends on the school and the team, you gotta get in touch with the right folks and see
Hey so I was wondering what other sprts interest you? Since you already have coordination skills, have you considered doing MMA? Or perhaps "pure" boxing, Muay Thai, Wrestling, Brazilian Ju Jitsu, Wung Chun, Karate Taekwondo, etc?
I love MMA! I've done a mix of MMA, Jiu Jitsu, and Muay Thai over the past couple of years. I haven't been going as much lately because I've been swamped but excited to start again soon. I competed in 1 Jitsu competition and 1 Muay Thai fight (smoker) so far. Cool experience and awesome sports
Yo your story inspired me. I’m 17 years old and a Senior and unfortunately I’ve only played in practices as a DB and WR before quitting due to grades and injury. I’ve missed summer workouts due to a summer job cutting grass, so I guess imma just work on my body and mind, and try and play semi-pro when the next season rolls around. I’m by no means scared, just nervous to re-aggravate an injury. I’ve played head up with people who have college offers right now and I’m willing to put in that work. Do you think it’s worth shooting for XFL or A college offer and could I do it ? Because I see myself doing either music, sports, or something with tech.
They have a counselor who will usually help you schedule and get priority spots in classes to fit the schedule. Basically, you don't worry about it till you make the team, then you can switch stuff around.
I’m going in as a walk on soon the question i have is If go to walk on tryouts as a sophomore and make it will i be a sophomore on the roster? or a junior on the roster? if that makes sense i really don’t want to waste any years my plan is to make the nfl with much years as possible to up my chances i’m just worried that it would be to late for me to get play time
Does it really matter?? if you wouldn't try simply cus your name is junior on the roster, that you might not get playing time, or that you won't make it to the NFL....you might be aiming for something you don't really want to do. I wouldn't have ever even considered this. If you wanna do it, just go do it. You won't know anything unless you try
@@clayraterman and one more question can you be a senior or junior twice as a football player since we have 5 years i’m not sure how that works, but i’m try and give it my all!
I stood out at my D2 tryouts today and then I caught a cramp towards the end of the drills. Not sure why they didnt have positional drills and instead more conditioning based. Idk how they choose players like this. Now my chances diminish since I didnt finish the last two drills
different places do it differently! condition better, workout harder, and go back next one. Be in better shape, more hydrated, and better stretched for the next one...it's all on you
How's it going, Clay! I have a question I really wanted to get your knowledge. So walk-on tryout season is here for college football and I'm currently in my sophomore year of community college the schools I have targeted to transfer as a walk-on at are ( Colorado State University, Okstate, and Eastern Kentucky University) I already have the training circuit ready for this spring and summer as well as the training faculty of Trench Academy and personal training from my high school in Tampa, Fl my hometown. I wanted to ask is there NCAA paperwork I have to be prepared and ready to go before I hit the gas to start training for walk-on tryouts this offseason?
I see you’re still responding to comments I just wanted to know how I’ll even walk on and I never went to highschool , I always wanted to play but never had the academics to match up
Hey love the vid, I’m 5’11 and 180lbs and have only played in pop Warner but was a varsity athlete in high school in wrestling. I bench 225 and squat 315, do I have a realistic chance at starting at quarterback for a juco team as a walk-on. I’m 20 years old btw.
Hey Clay. I graduated in 2019 however, I took my fall semester of 2020 off due to COVID. If I transferred, and walked on at my D1 school in 2022, would I still be eligible? If not, would an appeal be realistic? Thanks Clay love the vids bro.
So I'm a senior going to graduate this year I was going to go In the army for 3 years before going to college and I don't have film but I wanna try out for oregon do you think it js doable?
Maybe! go try to walk on at a tryout if you end up there with eligibility. Seems far away tho I'd focus on your life now if you have other plans (college football isn't really a backup plan type of thing)
Don’t know if you still look at comments but I’m 19 I played basketball in high school I’m 5’11 about 155 (working on adding weight rn)but I have never played organized football besides flag football. I’m pretty athletic like I can dunk in basketball do you think there is a chance I can work at football and maybe walk-on as a db or something I’m attending UCF right now. My biggest roadblock in my mind is the facts I have never played organized football but I’m not bad at football if you get that lol.
Since you need 12 credits I’m assuming you can’t walk on as a freshman at the college, right? You’d have to wait until your sophomore year when you’d already earned 12+ credits
It’s not when you complete 12 credits. It means you need to be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours (about 4 classes) to be considered a full time student. Once you are a full time student you can walk on.
@@clayraterman wait so I couldn’t walk on as a senior and play 4 years as if I walked on as a freshman? Assuming I would want to be at college for 7 plus years.
I had a really good senior year (which is usually a bit too late to catch any recruiting attention lol) but I had some opportunities through coaches and connections to go play lower level places but was never interested or even remotely pursued any of them
Interesting question! I actually never had the dream or goal of playing in the NFL. Too many other things in life I want to do outside of football. Really important to know what you really want
