For falling you don’t want to fall on your knees you can cause a lot of damage to your knees when I was trained I got told try n spread your legs as you fall and try to roll onto your shoulder onto your back. A dislocated shoulder is much better than two broken knees. We were also told if you are gonna fall try to fall backwards as it’s the safest way. You sit down in your stilts as much as you can and curve your back so you’re like a ball and you roll back down your spine like a backwards roll keeping your chin tucked and arms next to your head like a brace position.

Bought stilts for a costume I'm making, for me I just put them on and started walking, a couple of days later i started thinking about what to do if I fall (I haven't fallen yet just worried I might).

I know it's an old comment but I'd highly suggest NOT using stilts for cosplaying at a convention! Especially not on the convention floor! Remember, some people won't think twice about trying to push you or climb you just for a picture/attention. Save the stilts for when you can control your environment, like for a photo or video shoot or on a stage if you're well-practiced.

Yesterday I put on the stilts for the first time and I can honestly say that on a scale from 1 to 10 degrees of difficulty it is a 12 🤣🤣🤣 My stilts are midsize. I hope I will learn because it's like riding a bike, at the beginning everything seems difficult and then you don't even think about it

I'm looking to buy a stilts for a giant costume. Was looking at running blades...too expensive! Looking at running stilts....not the right kind of look. Shoes with the elliptical arch....not high enough. But think I'll go with plasterers stilts like in this video

I got a question, the bending forward/back of the stilts when you stand still and move your knees back and forth, is that something to be concerned about or is it actually part of the design and when you walk?
@caezarlapuc8627
@caezarlapuc8627 Год назад
I noticed that too and after i inspected that's how they are designed. If they didnt have that pivot they would of call stiffs not stilts.
@TheOfficialDjProduct
@TheOfficialDjProduct Год назад
That makes them have a more natural heel joint, making it possible to stand completely still. It's got I think a duel action spring specifically for that reason. More traditional stilts were made of wood and were essentially wooden poles with platforms to stand on. With out the "heel joint" it's impossible to stand still and you always need to be moving. The most practical usage of stilts is drywall, drywall finishing, and painting. If you had to be moving every second just to stand upright, you wouldn't get any work done. Once you get used to them and used to balancing, you should be able to stand completely still with no issues. Keep mind, the taller the stilts, the more difficult they become to operate in general.

Pretty sure you wanna take the fall on your shoulder.... The amount of spine injury in laying backwards into a fall... and then the momentum of your head hitting the floor

I walked stilts for years doing drywall and had a pair of 6 foot stilts i made I just for shits and giggles. Usually used 20-48 inch ones for work. The ones in this video are around 18 inches...i could run wearing those.

Yall think this is fun. I'm here because tomorrow my boss is having me sand sheet rock in a home with 9ft ceilings. It's about 100 sheets, and I have to do all of it by the end of the day. It'll be 94° tomorrow and humid.

This does nothing to show you how to fall, I wanna see you fall with the stilts on. And at no point should you ever fall to you knees, you will damage your knees. You want to tuck and protect your head, ideally you fall on your side because your shoulder can take more of an impact. also while wearing drywall stilts you don’t have to constantly correct your balance, you can absolutely stand still. This video is less then useful. And based on how you walk you clearly haven’t been doing this for very long
@MohsinExperiments

Yeah but I watched another video where she said that some stilts have knee guard. So if our stills have knee guard then it is safer to land on our knees instead of our shoulders. On the other hand if we land on our shoulders it can cause severe shoulder injury.
@keelabasa5607
@keelabasa5607 Год назад
If there's a knee guard, it's still not going to cushion this impact. I agree with falling on the side, not extending an arm to slow you down, but curling up so your head and limbs have less impact to the ground
@caezarlapuc8627
@caezarlapuc8627 Год назад
I started to use them and they would've save me an hour of work going up and down on the ladder, than I said forget it, I will save the myself from injury my self using those things. They are not safe and they should be ban by OSHA for real.
@TheOfficialDjProduct
@TheOfficialDjProduct Год назад
Yep. The guy in the video has no idea. Never ever fall on your knees. And no matter what, never fall backwards, if you have to fall, go forward. Spread the impact across as many points of contact as you can. The tips of your shoes/or the stilts if your shoes don't go farther, your knees(you gotta use em, just don't put everything on them) and your entire forearms. Have your hands up like the police just told you to "put em up". Have them slightly in front of you, but not so in front that your elbows take all the impact. Turn you head to the side as not to slam your face into the ground, and be prepared for the impact because depending on how high up you are, your head is gonna want to slam forward. Also, I'm no medical professional so I'll say this, I'm not responsible if you try this and do get hurt. At some point you just get in an unlucky situation and no matter what you do, you're gonna get hurt. If you strap on those stilts, you take full responsibility for anything and everything that happens. Worst case scenario is you fall backwards or forward in a small room with a wall either right behind you or right in front of you. If your lucky the room might be the perfect size and you'll end up in a sketchy leaning position. Unlucky would be if it was a bit bigger and you'd reach a "point of no return". Your body is gonna twist and turn and man it's gonna hurt (things are gonna break). Stilts are dangerous and I'd never ask my worst enemy to wear them, they'd have to do it of their own volition. If you think you can learn to walk on them, good for you, if you aren't comfortable and don't really need to, don't try. I use them all time, they make my life way easier but they are dangerous, no question. I will say, that although they are not safe, you take a slightly less, but not by much risk, by riding a bicycle. You need a decent understanding of the feel of balance while riding a bicycle. As well a serious accident on a bicycle can be just as, if not more damaging, than a serious fall on stilts. Stilts are more dangerous, but keep in mind, the risk is similar.
