Do you use Illustrator for Fashion Design and need to add more dimension to your flat sketch? Envelope Distort is a great way to add folds and drape to a flat sketch if you create a fashion CAD using Illustrator for fashion design. This isn't something you'd use for a fashion technical drawing for a fashion tech pack, but it's great for a fashion CAD.

Love it! I don’t use mesh ever on my cads so great lesson and also you do shadows differently than I do was happy to learn a new way.

Thanks for watching and commenting! I appreciate you! I only use the mesh when I'm trying to stunt on folks! LOL And glad to see you learned a new lesson on the shadows. I'd love to see how you do them. You should make a video or do you already have one?

I use procreate but was able to translate This over And had a fair idea of what to do But had the oversight of not using a new layer with the pattern, so I didn't break the pattern up with gaps. This tutorial was so helpful and helped me figure out what I was missing. Thank you!

Nice! Thanks for watching and commenting! Glad it was helpful! You should do a video on how you're doing this in Procreate! I'm sure a lot of people would love to see it:)

This is a great, on point tutorial! It's exactly what I was looking for, as I'm trying to match a dotted pattern to a similarly draped fabric. Thank you for sharing this technique!

I do have a question, is there a way to make the image look crisp when you transfer it to photoshop?everytime I transfer it the fine details get blurred... mainly doing that to create a presentation layout
@383design
@383design 5 лет назад
@@sartorialtheory Yes, there is. I normally export the file. Go to File>Export>Export as .... Doing this will allow you to specify the type of file you want to save it as (I usually do Photoshop), specify the resolution and export the file in separate layers (choose "Write Layers").

I love doing Envelope Distort! I really like how it makes my flats look, but I think I'd only use it for really big presentations, perhaps something where we need to make a great first impression or in my portfolio. I'm not sure I'd use it everyday. How would you use these techniques? Or would you use them at all?

How did you "cut"the mesh object before placing it back inside the skirt? I cant seem to get this right (probably super straight forward)
@383design
@383design 5 лет назад
Hi, Catharin. Thanks for watching and asking a question. I use the keyboard shortcut "Ctrl/Cmnd-X." You can also go to the Edit menu, and choose "Cut".

I'm using Adobe Illustrator CC and envelope distort/make with mesh is driving me crazy. It doesn't work the way it used to. I am following the same steps as your video, but either the pattern doesn't warp as it always did or it becomes so light that it appears semi-transparent. Anyone having this problem?
@383design
@383design 5 лет назад
Hi, Dina. I am so sorry I missed this comment. I haven't heard of anyone else having this issue. I haven't had to use this since the CC2019 update, but it worked fine for me with CC2018. I wonder if it's a setting or something. I'll have to play around with it and see if I find anything. Have you found a solution since your comment?
@dinasantoro3186
@dinasantoro3186 5 лет назад
If I rasterize it first it seems to work. I never had to rasterize before, so it must be a thingie in their CC19 update. Thanks :-)@@383design
