I agree with Brenden.. machines cycle even delicate can pill and mat a cashmere sweater .. best way to wash cashmere is to wash it by hand.. tepid water..gentle soap…then put it in the bag.. put it in the washing machine on cold RINSE .. I usually select high spin to remove all the water.. has worked perfect for me for years. Comes out pretty dry.. then lay to dry or for me depending on the sweater.. I hang to dry.
I accidentally washed a new cashmere scarf in the machine and dried it in the dryer, not knowing it was cashmere as it was a gift. It seems okay but there was a lot of it in the lint trap. It might be slightly less soft now but that could just be me thinking so. I learned my lesson - read the label.
Hand washing is best, but a lot of people don’t want to hand wash their garments. This is still a safe way to launder your cashmere though - Good Housekeeping agrees: www.goodhousekeeping.com/home/cleaning/a41339587/how-to-wash-cashmere/?gclid=CjwKCAiAnZCdBhBmEiwA8nDQxW4lzem5DZXPx5x9CrNWjJf-CfqZVthXbUN52MwSEYjx5200JWaGdhoClg8QAvD_BwE
Always hand wash, NEVER EVER use Woolite--it's hot garbage. The Laundress makes the best cashmere shampoo--if you can't afford it, baby shampoo (it is hair after all). Drain water and ease item into a laundry bag and then put in the washer on the spin cycle only (don't roll in a towel--sitting wet is what actually shrinks cashmere). Block back into place on a clean towel.
