I made my own with a washable filter. I just put them in my washer. I always use white vinegar for the rinse.

Will the microwave be effective for sanitizing the mass the same as the oven?

I just hand wash mine and put them in the microwave while wet and then dry them. The microwave will kill any germs or bacteria.

Won't baking the masks cause the silicone straps to melt, breakdown. Wouldn't a microwave be a safer choice. Maybe.

I hang mine to dry too. I have a couple of cloth masks my grandmother made that have cloth ties so those would be fine in the dryer but all the other ones have elastic and I feel like with how frequently they need to be washed it would wreck them.
