Hey Pan, I have PPF and ceramic coatings on my car for about 1.3 years now. And I noticed, they've done a good job on damage protection etc, however, it doesn't shield them from water marks. it's a lot more obvious especially on the hood's PPF. I've washed my car weekly, and yeah, my country has a lot of rain. Almost raining every 1-2 days so it's quite impossible to keep the car dry all the time.. Any tips to solve this water marks problem?
@TheBreakfastLover

I suggest Xpel Water Spot remover. It's designed for both PPF and ceramic-coated PPF. I use it after every winter to get rid of any traces of mineral deposits and salt. Just spray it on, let it sit for 30-60 seconds, then rinse off.
@SuperAnonymities
@SuperAnonymities Год назад

@@SuperAnonymities it does not, as per Xpel (and on the bottle as well), it's intended to be used on both Xpel PPF, and Xpel PPF with Xpel Fusion ceramic coating.

It’s probably just like that CLR stuff you can use in the house for things like showers, shower heads, etc… but probably not as aggressive
@TheBreakfastLover
@TheBreakfastLover Год назад
@@07wrxtr1 correct, CLR has a pH of 2, which means it is 100x more acidic than Xpel Water Spot remover (which has a pH of 4). Thus CLR will strip most ceramic coatings, which can typically tolerate a pH as low as 3.

Is all DIY PPF pretty much equal today? I've seen 3 that I'm considering. Also, if you choose one with edges, how often do you think you need to "focus" on cleaning edges? Is this something I have to do literally every wash or quarterly or maybe twice a year?

I understand about being careful of the PPF edges, but why would I not just use Turtle Wax ceramic spray followed by a graphene spray since I already have them, and, they're fairly easy to apply. Whomever installed it did a poor job. They should have wrapped it around the edges going under the hood and out of site. You can try cotton swabs and alcohol Just keep in mind that you want it sitting in the sun to get it to bond back to hood after you have cleaned… Once those edges get damaged they’ll start collecting crap constantly

You would have to ask your PPF installer if he feels ok with applying a PPF on top of your coating. Normally, it's the PPF first, and then a coating on top of the PPF. Hi Pan, can I clay bar PPF and what speed machine polish should I use?
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer Год назад
In theory, yes you can clay PPF. However, you should be very careful as traditional clay bars are abrasive. Perhaps use a synthetic clay towel, that won't cause marring, something like this: amzn.to/3JHfrtG And make sure you use a clay lubricant. For polishing, you'd use the same speeds as for paint. You start low to spread (speed 2) and polish using higher speeds (5 or 6) depending on what machine you have. Always do some testing on an inconspicuous area first. Or hire a professional detailer if you're unsure of what you're doing.

Is the main difference is the product mainly develop for PPF due to the difference from PPF and Paint because how the product will "stick" to the surface?

Yes, just keep in mind Bead Maker isn't used for long term protection. It just lasts 3-4 weeks on average. We usually use it as a topper over longer lasting protection, to boost gloss and slickness. Gonna be honest, needing to do any of this negates most of the benefits I was advertised of getting by just having PPF. The way it’s advertised it seems as though with it’s self healing properties you could just run through a newer touch automatic car wash and never have to worry about any swirls. And then every so often you could do an at home hand wash with something like griots ceramic spray after and have an almost immaculate (to a normal person not a detailer) finish at all times. If this isn’t how this works what are you getting for the $5-15k investment on PPF?
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer 11 месяцев назад
It really depends what brand and model of PPF you have. Not all of them are self-healing. And even the self-healing ones can only protect against light swirls and scratches. Like paint, if you get any scratch too deep, there's not much heat or UV can do to restore the self-healing. PPF is really made for its main purpose: protecting the paint underneath against stone chips and scratches. So the PPF will get banged up, will get scratches and swirls, and stone chips, and will likely fade and oxidize over time (unless you apply a coating on top of the PPF) but it will have served its purpose: protect the clear coat underneath. I just thing some brands like to overhype PPF as it's a magical force field haha. Nothing is. The same with the brands that overhype ceramic coatings. Are they the best paint protection? Yes. But do coatings protect stone chips and scratches? No they don't. PPF does that. Coatings are meant to provide gloss, slickness, give self-cleaning properties making the vehicle much easier to wash, give UV protection, chemical resistance, and protect the clear coat from the elements, bird droppings, tree sap, industrial fallout, etc.
@GettingAGrip208
@GettingAGrip208 11 месяцев назад
@@PanTheOrganizer thanks for the response, I’m your experience will the self healing ones (suntek reaction) be immune to what otherwise would cause small swirl marks for years and years to come? All my vehicles stay basically immaculate for years and years but in the right light you can see swirls through the shine. Hoping self healing PPF on my brand new vehicle will negate this

It’s in great shape and I maintain it well. The vehicle has extremely low mileage and is kept in a garage quite a lot of the time. Do you have to replace the PPF at some point as I have noticed some people say as the PPF ages it’s more difficult to remove it ? Is this correct. I am concerned about how long the PPF will last before it needs to be replaced for easy enough removal before it becomes too difficult to replace? Any advice of information would be really appreciated Thanks

I see you polish cars all of the time with Sonax perfect finish or 3D speed, but outside correcting sandpaper scratches in a large scale auto-body shops I don't hear about 3M's polishes why is this? Their sandpaper and tape products are great and have made them total tech Giants. Do perfect-it and finesse it polishes simply not work as a polish prior to ceramic coating a vehicle? Gyeon is a serious top tier brand. They don’t do marketing gimmicks. They have their Restart shampoo that also has light iron removing capabilities. Just wanted to comment on the ppf maintain longevity. I live in FL, garage kept, air conditioned, white vehicle, Xpel ppf. Without any sort of decon I get around 1-2 weeks. Maybe it'll get rained on 1-3 times, I don't bring it to work so it'll sit outside a shop or something, not all day otherwise it's in the garage, it does shed dirt and debris somewhat but nothing spectacular or to write home about. For a reference I put about 5k miles on the vehicle in one year so I don't drive too often. Full decon(strip wash, ppf wash, ironx with a synthetic clay bar, panel prep) I get 2-3 weeks out of it. VERY disappointing to be honest. I'll use the rest of the bottle but it would have been nice for the price to get something with a little more longevity. I won't be purchasing it again. That being said it really does make the car POP, especially for a white car. Some serious shiny candy look going on and very reflective. Hopefully you see this pan and the manufacturer.

If you want maximum durability, apply a PPF coating. There’s a limit you what sprays can do on PPF. Gyeon themselves only claim 6 weeks durability with this. And usually in the real world, you rarely reach full manufacturer’s claims, for many variables often discussed in my videos. A PPF specific coating should get you 1-2 years of protection. Then use the spray for maintenance. Same principles as for paint products. See my PPF coating tutorial here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7RCgqdGrvrA.htmlsi=7wQ86GrlqQ8_pt2V Welcome to my channel. The only way to ensure 100% removal of a previous coating is by machine polishing. So a light polish and polishing pad should do the trick. You'll know you succeeded with the removal when the water won't bead anymore, and will simply be a flat pool of slow sheeting water.

A few of them in this tutorial: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7RCgqdGrvrA.html For the rest, it's pretty much the same as regular paint. Maintenance is the same procedure (iron remover, extra paint protection with the ceramic spray, etc).
