I run my own car detailing company, and i always wash on 90 degrees Celsius. And i always use very hot when drying in the drying machine. And my towels are several years old, still looks and feel brand new. Keep in mind, when microfibre towels are colour dyed, they are so at 100 degrees Celsius. So no worries, wash them at high temperatures. Cold won't do anything good, just try washing buttery fingers in cold water. Nothing happens. But turn on hot water, and see what it does. Clean!

Awesome video yet again Pan! The vinegar trick works magic and I’ve had to transfer my old microfiber stock to wheel and tire towels as I’ve been cooking them on high water temperature! It’s no wonder they weren’t working like new anymore. One trick I found that works really really well is to presoak microfiber and a light solution of dawn dishwashing soap then, rinse in them thoroughly prior to washing them in the machine. That takes all the chemical and grim off, and allows for the washing machine cycle to be more effective. Just have to rinse it very well as too much Dawn will create a very sudsy machine. Well done ! Great video Pan. An important thing to do as well, if your washing machine is shared for domestic duties, ensure that you thoroughly clean the fabric softener dispenser in the soap tray if any liquid softener has been in there, and run a quick empty wash cycle with no detergents before putting your towels in to remove any fabric softener residues. :-)

Great tips. Note! Even the lowest clothes dryer heat setting, is usually still full heat, but it blows full heat just for shorter durations than the high heat setting, which is often on continuously.
You just got a fan for life! I've seen the detailing product vids, but this has to be my absolute favorite. Near and dear to my heart. I do pretty much every single thing you go over, from the wash settings (have a very similar LG machine) to ALL free & clear, and even the white distilled vinegar. I am a diver, and we use these to dry off faster. We always end up hanging them in our lockers to dry, but we use hot water to rinse them. I always feel like they hold nasty things.But they are very useful! Also this video is amazing at explaining step by step. Very detailed video.
Thanks Ava! Yes, microfiber towels are great cleaning tools for picking up moisture and liquids and dirt, but need to be cleaned properly in order to stay effective.
I've washed my microfiber towels in hot water (and I keep my hot water very hot) many, many times and have not melted anything. The towels come out like new. I do that following the printed instructions that came with my Chemical Guys microfiber towels - those instructions specify HOT water, LOW heat in dryer and no fabric softener sheets.
So glad I watched this video. Just bought $50 worth of micro-fiber towels for the garage. I would've likely ruined them before watching this video. I just assumed you'd wash them the same way you wash any other towels. Thanks, and keep the great videos coming, Pan.
Dry cleaner w/ 16yrs of experience here. Very solid advice and I just want to add a couple of pointers. Adding acid or what we call “sour” into first rinse is mostly to neutralize and rinse off detergent which tends to be alkali. Doesn’t really boost cleaning. If you want to release grease in wash wheel add some sort of degreaser approved my local municipality to prewash. Most specialized detergents are mostly cash grab. Use clear kirkland detergent from costco, which is made by Persil. Trick is to use lot less than recommended amount. Every washing machine is different so you need to experiment. How do you know if you’ve use too much? Soak the fabric that came out of the washing machine in warm water. If you see soap residue then you’ll know.

Micro towels are great for household dirt dust and cleaning. I’ve been washing cold and air dry. I’ve been really enjoying a double fused washcloth for face cleansing. One side linen, the other microfiber. Works like this; linen to remove any cleanser, the microfiber side acts like a squeegee removing any traces of cleanser and exfoliates taking any and all remnants of dead skin cells snd debris. Same reason why air dry is best. They dry quickly naturally. Thanks

I have been using 7th Generation non toxic laundry pre treatment for stained MF cloths along with the Micro Restore. Seems to work good. I will put on low temp drying now.
Once again, great video. I had been doing all this but hadn't pre-soaked in a degreaser. WOW! I had to change the soak water twice because this got so much gunk out of the towels. Thanks!
Two days ago I watched your video on car glass cleaning (I purchased a 2022 Miata MX-5 in February and I can never get the windshield really clean!) I purchased microfiber towels today at the Auto shop and "was going" to wash them for the first time tomorrow. I would have used my regular detergent (Gain Flings) and I would have used a dryer sheet. After watching this "timely" video, I purchased microfiber detergent from Amazon which will be delivered Saturday so my new towels will have to wait until Saturday or Sunday for their first "proper" wash/dry. I hope following your glass cleaning video (well most of it) I finally get that Miata MX-5 windshield CLEAN. Thanks

Nice vid Pan...thorough as usual. I have a suggestion. While there are tons of vids on MF care they all typically address the same stuff. Something i haven't seen anyone do, is one that ties in the MF towels to product-specific cleaning. With sooo many new products on the market with sio2 infused in them or super durable "sealants" where do they fall in the cleaning regime? Most know Ceramic used MF are to be discarded after application. A how-to video on care of all those MF used, say in your torture tests, or during a detail, etc like placing them in a bucket and then how to care for those would be awesome IMO. Like a refresher vid based on the amount of new products with sio2, or nano technology, etc etc. Keep up the great work!
Absolutely. Especially if you wash your new towels before their first use (ALWAYS wash new towels before the first use) and then you will care for them following this tutorial.
I read and was told to get bad stains out of a microfiber towel to bring a pot of vinegar water to a boil put the towels in stirring for a minute and a half in the boiling water, and it works good!
I have a dedicated washer/dryer for my detailing towels... when we did the addition and my wife got her 1st floor laundry room, I got the old washer and dryer in the basement. I also separate my microfibers into categories when I wash them and dry my microfibers on the delicates setting. I soak the microfibers used in a 5 gallon pail with a water/APC solution to break down any compound/polish/wax/sealant on the towels. I have been using Persil laundry pods for washing.
Wash them only with other micro fiber rags. Don’t use any fabric softener or dryer sheets. . Wash on cold or warm with extra rinse and Dry on low heat.
Just a tiny bit of correction, and I’m glad I learned the melting point of microfiber, so thank you. I’m a Detailer who just so happens to have spent the last decade as a plumber. Plumbers, at least here in Texas, will as a standard set water heaters in residential homes to 120°F. Because anything over 130 can and will scald you. We NEVER set water heaters to 140°F. It’s too hot for anyone, dangerous for children and elderly folks, and it isn’t great for the hoses and/or plastic parts of the tank either. Otherwise, great info!
Yeah, so I would simply stay away from the hot setting in the washer, and use cold or warm. The most important thing here is to use the lowest heat setting or no heat in the dryer. Good one Pan. Very informative and good information on how to clean microfiber cloths. Good advice on using WARM at the most instead of HOT setting. Especially on newer washing machines that have built in heaters that super heat the water to a high temperature on HOT setting. My washer also has a "steam" function, but that too would be far too hot for microfiber cleaning. I usually use the WARM setting when cleaning most of my microfibers and have had good luck with that. There is also a soap company called "CHARLIES SOAP". It's roughly $25 a gallon but this stuff works FANTASTIC for cleaning microfiber cloths. It takes out staining and really gets the microfibers clean. It also has little to no scent and is a free and clear type of liquid soap. They have a powder version but I wouldn't recommend that for microfibers since they crystals may not fully disolve and then get into the fibers themselves and then have the possibility of scratching the surface you are working on later. Never use a powdered detergent on microfibers. Just about any liquid soap will work pretty well as long as it's a quality soap like Tide or similar. I've also had good luck using DREFT soap. It really gets out the stains. DREFT is also readily available at most stores but it's just a little pricier than other soaps. It's worth paying the extra amount.

I use Charlie’s Soap in liquid form. I’m curious about dedicated microfiber cleaners, but Charlie’s works very well. I need to start drying on fluff, though.

Great tips. Especially the fabric softener one. Fabric softeners destory the fabric of not just the microfiber towels but also your clothes, they become more stretchy over time and less water absorbent which can cause your body sweat to just stay on your skin.

I have microfiber towels that are maybe 10 years old and just wash them and dry on normal heat not high or max! Guess what those 10 year old towels still work and look good!

@@simonci5177 Not all MF is created the same. If you are serious about detailing you learn pretty quick which towels work best for the various tasks and rarely do the budget brands make the cut. I have my favorite towels and can no longer find them online to replace so I'm pretty anal on how I wash them. Glad I found out now how sensitive they are to heat, I been lucky that I haven't ruined any towels in the dryer. Thanks Pan for that info.
If you have a dryer and drying racks, I like to take the towels off the drying racks when done and tumble them for 5 minutes on low heat to "puff" them up.
Followup msg...used all your microfiber wash and dry techniques...truly the BEST, softest, plushest my microfiber towels ever were...both old and new towels. May i ADD 2 more suggestions: 1. Heavily soiled rags, add a few squirts of SPRAY N WASH , cold or even warm water does not clean towels without this very well, 2. If u cannot wait for multiple tumble air dry cycles or rack drying....set up a drying rack next to a basement dehumidifier if u have one....mine is on a timer to save electricity, two 2 hr cycles per day, towels dry in 24 hrs.
Hot water is what you instructed to use in the last video you made on this topic. Last time you also mentioned any soap would be fine. A bit of conflicting information between these two videos.
I guess he found a specific detergent for them since then, even in the description of this video he says the normal ones without fabric softener work fine.
You can put them in the dryer, as long as you are using the LOWEST possible heat setting, or better yet, just air fluff or "air dry" setting (meaning just ambient temperature drying).

I'm glad you show you can use Tide free and clear . And the detailer that is in Dallas , Texas uses Cheer Clear All . Because microfiber detergent seems to be very expensive , cheapest I have found is 3D at $25.00 a gallon .
My favorite microfiber detergent, by far, is this newer one: amzn.to/43puC1G You can get it in a gallon size, and you only use about 1 oz per wash for normal loads, so it's super cheat in the long run.
This is a great video! So informative, and it definitely set me straight w/ regard to the wash temp. Certain other videos out there contradict the prescribed temperature and totally disregard the heat sensitivity of microfiber towels. Thanks for making this!
@Pan TheOrganizer, try this tip, it will amaze you. I AIR dry all my Microfiber towels. BUT before you hang them on a drying rack you MUST SNAP the towel. Best method is to simply grab the left corner and the right corner and do a hard quick snaping towel motion. I normally snap the towels straight down. I do EACH towel, rotate the towel 90degrees left, repeat. Do this for all 4 edges of the towel. Once these towels dry they will be 99% new and 10,000 times better then any simple hang dry or electric dryer. If you do this and agree, just give me a shout out for the tip! Trust me you will never dry your towels any other way once you do this. Just remeber to snap as hard as you can, the point is to SNAP those fibers loose from each other when they dry.!! Good luck!
Completely true! I do the same thorough snap and mine have never come out better. Super fluffy, absorbent, brilliantly bright and clean and ready for the next round of cleaning. As microfibre dries so quickly, I just peg them up on an airing rack and they're dry by the next morning. I wash mine in a long soak and wash cycle and my agency cleaner commented that I have the cleanest and best cloths of all her clients! [Previously, I left the cleaning to the helpers and they didn't clean the cloths properly, which resulted in dirt & grime just being smeared here and there - ugh!]

Good advice, Pan. Been using Old Dutch Hypoallergenic (dye/perfume free) for my towels and they've come out great. In your opinion, does a dedicated detergent like Micro Restore make a giant difference, or are regular detergents fine, as long as they're free of softeners and fragrances, etc?
All-free type detergents are ok, but I still prefer microfiber specific detergents when cleaning microfiber towels, they just seem to do a better job, hard to describe...
Wash them the way you think they need to be washed. I've been using different kinds of microfiber cloths in my home ever since they existed. Smoother and fluffier ones, differences in percentages of types of polyester fibers and so forth. Since I use them for cleaning, they get dirty and need to be thoroughly washed and thoroughly rinsed. I stopped watching the video after he grabbed the detergent, claiming you need a mild one. Honestly that makes about as much sense as advising people to wash cloth diapers in cold water with only a quarter of the recommended amount of detergent to prevent build up of detergent. That will not work. There might not be any build up of detergent but there morst certainly will be build up of dirt if you do it that way. That's one sensible thing from this video, to set the machine to do an extra rinse and to pre soak very dirty cloths. Here's how I see it. I'm not about to waste a full washing cycle just for the small amount of cleaning cloths I use in a week. So the cloths have always been mixed with other stuff. I still have some cloths from over 10 years ago and they are still very absorbant and soft, but wearing out. I wash all my cleaning cloths, including the microfiber ones, on a 60 degree celcius full cycle, they go in with our bed sheets, bath towels, tea towels etc. They come out clean, soft and absorbent. I do not have a dryer so everything is line dried. I don't use fabric softener, that's a no-no with microfiber, but I put white vinegar in the fabric softener compartment instead. All the different kinds of microfiber cloths I have are holding up wonderfully.
I usually use the 40 °C setting when washing microfibre towels, the labels on some of them even say that 60 °C would be possible. Never had any problems with that so far. However I do use the low heat setting with the gentle option on my dryer and I add a few tennis balls, so the towels become extra fluffy.
I remember a few months ago after I was married, with3 children , I got all excited after buying the most expensive WD set at appliance store. Almost exciting as the mini van from a few years ago. How things have changed from my early 20s'!

Very informative! A lot of information distilled down and easy to understand. Great points about too much heat on microfiber. Especially in the dryer, with a temp could easily get above 140°. For the water however, I would suggest that, if your water heater is set to 140° that you turn it down… A lot. 140° is dangerously hot and way too hot for domestic hot water, especially if you have children. Also, you mentioned that the towels don't get as fluffy if you hang them to dry. I guess you could just toss them all in the dryer at the end to fluff them up a bit.

For people who live in the real world, quick cycle on 30 Degrees C at full rpm, usually works out at around 45 minutes on an LG machine. Air drying is best inside or out
Thanks for this video on washing microfiber towels. 2 things, 1 you missed if any specials instructions for cleaning a wash mitt. 2 My wife uses the trick of putting tennis balls in the dry. My towels came out nice and soft.
My microfiber wash mitts are washed along with my microfiber towels. Same technique. I don’t use tennis or dryer balls as I don’t want any of thise tiny fibers potentially going into the microfibers.
