Izza is tired of the way her sew in smells and even though her stylist suggested for her not to wash her hair until her next install, she is very sensitive to smells and she can't take the stench anymore!
Hair Tip #1 Wash your Hair with a Sulfate Shampoo for Deep Cleaning
Sulfate Shampoos Rated 5 Stars (BEST RATINGS)
Brocato America Deep Cleansing Shampoo goo.gl/l1TpXk
Paul Mitchell Shampoo Two goo.gl/p08FZX
Redken Hair Cleansing Cream Shampoo goo.gl/ZVdlAo
Washing your hair with a sulfate shampoo strips EVERYTHING from your hair and scalp such as dandruff, mold, mildew, product buildup and also unfortunately, your natural oils. Don't worry about your natural oils being stripped because you will later add oils and moisturizing products back into your hair after this deep cleanse.
Hair Tip #2 Deep Condition Your Hair and Scalp With Coconut Oil and Tea Tree Oil Anti Fungal Properties
Organic Cold Pressed Virgin Coconut Oil goo.gl/P94AnO
Tea Tree Essential Oil goo.gl/gvmk86
Coconut oil and Tea Tree oil are a dynamic duo when coupled together because they both offer the best antifungal properties in comparison to other essential oils and carrier oils (oils from plants). You have to use organic cold pressed virgin coconut oil (even though it is pricier) because this extraction of oil has more nutritional value and potency to recover your hair instead of using just "coconut oil".
Hair Tip #3 Apply Diluted Anti Fungal Essential Oils to Your Scalp and Hair Before Styling
And also to keep your scalp dry if you like to wash your sew ins or workout while wearing a sew in, using tools such as a hooded dryer or a bonnet dryer can stop you from having a wet or damp scalp.
Hooded Hair Dryer (use with a handheld hair dryer) goo.gl/V59Nck
Bonnet Hair Dryer goo.gl/Xilp5T

The smell is a result of washing the sew in and not letting it dry properly!! I washed MY hair every week! The meldew is trap in the water! Ladies this is not a smell from not washing your hair its a smell from not drying it properly.
@FearOfaBlackChannel
@FearOfaBlackChannel 9 лет назад
+Donna Chesser NO. That smell is probably a by-poduct of (a) BACTERIA (b) MOLD. If you don't know- MOLD IS FUNGUS. FUNGUS EATS HAIR. FUNGI THRIVE ON KERATIN and CHITIN (hair and nails). FUNGI also thrive in DARK DAMP HUMID enviroments, and YOUR WEAVE is the PERFECT environment for growing mold. You want to know why Black women cannot grow out hair? BECAUSE THEY KEEP EXPOSING THEIR HAIR AND SCALP TO CHEMICALS AND WEARING WIGS AND WEAVES WHICH ARE RIFE WITH MOLD SPORES AND BACTERIA. BLACK WOMEN WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GROW ANY HAIR AT ALL AND WILL DEVELOP HORRIFIC MYCOSES - FUNGAL INFECTIONS IN THE SCALP AND DESTROY HAIR FOLLICLES COMPLETELY. STOP IT. LET YOUR SCALP BREATHE, WASH YOUR HAIR WITH VALERIAN, ALOE PULP AND EUCALYPTUS. LEAVE THEM DAMNED WEAVES ALONE!

+FearOfaBlackChannel for your information.. I hate weave. I got it once and never again.I hated the smell. I wear braids now and then,and my hair is so full, quick growing. my hair grows and entire inch and a bit more in one month. stop assumm we all "Black's" are bald. probably have more hair than you. I know its an old post I'm just seeing it!
@donnachesser21
@donnachesser21 8 лет назад
+FearOfaBlackChannel also what do you think happens when you dry your hair under that dark weave!? Its dark and damp, not dried properly! you even said it yourself.lol!
@donnachesser21
@donnachesser21 8 лет назад
+FearOfaBlackChannel I just gotta add,when you don't wash your individual braids ( braids that can dry properly not under weave) Why does it not smell like meldew? Why when you wash it the hair sell good? where as a weave that's trapped in a dark wet no air it stays smelling like meldew. Answer! It cannot simply "DRY" Properly! You contrad yourself!!!!!

I know of some ladies who put sew-ins, braids, twists etc in their hair and don't wash their hair for months at a time... and yes that smell is quite nauseating. Besides the smell from all the dirt and product build-up, it baffles me when they don't understand why their hair is nasty, matted and smelling like funk when they finally take that stuff out. Scalp and possible fungal infections is not something anyone wants to deal with. Take care of your hair ladies even the hair your purchased.. Thanks for sharing these helpful tips.

I see a lot of comments about how black women are trying to be white? self-hate? Really now... First off White people are not the only ones with straighter hair textures second that is funny third Only black women know that sometimes...our hair....though we love it to death...can be a lot of maintenance.....it takes hours ever week to deal with. you cannot simply put it in a ponytail and keep it moving all the time...our texture needs TLC I loveeeeeeee my natural hair...black hair is so beautiful you can wear it afro, curly, braided ,straight the possibilities. WEAVE DOES NOT EQUAL SELF HATE. every woman has some insecurities and if a girl wanna weave it up that's her business. just like Botox barbies, anyone with implants, fake lashes, fake nails, is all of that self hate? No its called mind ya business So to all who think black women are hating on themselves.....you tried it boo.

+minniemouze Though uncommon, Black/ African American hair can become infested with lice. Do a quick search, and you will find blogs and videos dedicated to eradicating lice from Black/ African American hair since it takes more time and tenacity to do so due to the kinky nature of the hair. Because of this innate difficulty of the eradication process, lice-removal specialists recommend using a larger portion of conditioner on wet hair to ease the dragging of the metal (or plastic if necessary) lice comb through Black/ African American hair.

This is a helpful video. But I have a particular case I would like your help with. I have a curly crochet style in that is a madly type hair. I also work out several times a week. I have heard that you can't fully wet this style to wash it. I have only had it in a couple weeks and I love the style but I smell a strong odor. All the products I am using are not getting rid of the smell. i keep using water, sea breeze astringent and oils to scrub my scalp but i sweat alot and i think the smell may be from the braids but I can smell it through my hair. How do i get rid of the smell in my case?

I usually wash my sew in weaves 3 times a week and smelly hair is almost not visible to me. Here's my routine: 1. I wash my hair with shampoo twice.( Don't be too gentle on your scalp, but don't be too rough either, stick with a medium circular scrubbing) 2. I condition below my ear level as I try to stay away from conditioning my scalp because conditioner is hard to wash off and if it gets stuck inside the braids, believe me it will STINK. 3. I make sure I wash everything out my hair before I get out of the shower. ( Run water in your head for as long as possible while massaging your scalp in a circular motion and until your hair starts to make squiggly noise) 4. I dry my hair as soon as I get out of the shower with a high temp blow dryer just like the ones used in the salons. ( I remove the cap off the blowdryer to allow more heat in between my tracks). If you wait for it to air dry the tracks will end up smelling bad. 5. MOST IMPORTANT TIP: I use essential oil perfumes that I get from perfume shops, they come in a tiny bottle and you could get a variety of perfumes like incense or musk oil perfume and just use the stick that comes in with the bottle and wedge it in between the braids so that the scalp gets perfumed quite nicely. I also end up running the stick through my ends as well so that when I'm sitting close to someone, they enjoy the smell too lol Now I admit that by day 2, just like normal unweaved hair would, my hair begins to build up a funky smell but that's why I make sure I wash my hair 3 times a week. Sat, Tuesday and Thursday. Rotating depending on the activities I get myself into. ( gym, hot summer day, sweating)

@Stokedhavok I realize anything is possible but it is rare. I carpooled every day when I was little with my white friend. She had repeated infestations of lice. Its possible for black people to get skin cancer, however extremely rare due to melanin. So people can talk about us black people all they want but bugs dont live in our hair and we can enjoy the sun without frying up like bacon.
@marvrijswijk
@marvrijswijk 8 лет назад
i am sorry minniemouse but black people can also get lice. i am from the netherlands and volonteer on a school. i am what they call a " Lice mother" and inspect children. all children can get lice . white, brown enz. Has nothing to do with hygiene.
@suckurathethirstybishgiggi8219
marrie55 it's actually less common for a black child to get live due to there hair being kinky, coarse and thick so it's harder for the lice to get in an lay eggs. Compared to white people hair which is thin, stringy and straight so it's easier... I have never heard a black person say they got lice also

Yasmeen chickefoot they probably have finer hair i notice black people have 3a hair to 4b hair and alot of them have that fine culry hair it carries more moisture and with mositure comes bacteria moisture holds bacteria i have very coarse 4c hair and i think it has to do with hair texture biracial is more towards the softer moisture side and theres alot of black girls with that 3c-4bhair thats all i see these days

Mildew, mold, fungus is very difficult to treat. Look at how long it takes to treat a nail fungus. Another thing is that if it is not properly treated the fungus or mold it can spread to other parts of the body. I can't imagine that it would be properly treatable without removing the weave.

Your sew in does not have to be in for a long period of time to smell. Like she said in the video its cause of trapped moisture. The smell from not washing your hair while in weave is totally different from mildew smell. Trust. Read my story down below.

Thank you for addressing this issue. I had the same problem while I was wearing crochet braids because after workouts and co washing, the braid going across the nape of my head had a very hard time drying. It's part of the reason I took them down after just a few weeks. I'm wearing Senegalese twists right now and air drying them is quick and easy, so I have no bad smell :)

Omg I got a sew in 3 years ago. I got half micro.now the sew in was perfect until I washed it. It was expensive wet n wavy. So after I washed the next day u smelled a meldew smell it smell like a dog. I was at a party and this cute Mexican who like me told my friend do u have an std. Her Pusey stinks u smell it every time she gets up. How embarassing. So I kept buying products and nothing worked. Even my Mexican man said I had cancer. One day I sat in the car with the windows up when he came in the smell knocked him down. He thought it was my breath. I will never ever get a sew in.

Just think bathroom with no windows, you need to dry that room out after showers/baths and keep circulation going same thing with your head.You need to keep your scalp available to the air, thoroughly dry your hair and not put a plastic cap or bag on overnight to keep your pillow dry/clean. The time it takes that thick braid or sew-in to dry is too long, many hours allow a growth of bacteria or fungus. And better to prevent than worry about eradicating a serious problem afterward.
