Donna you have been teaching me for years and I so appreciate you! You are so straightforward and easy to understand! I always recommend you to beginners. Your contribution to fiber arts education is immeasurable. Much love to you!
I got some 'smelly' yarn from a home with a lot of cats last week and tried this, right down to the beagle sniff of approval. I'm very happy to say it 100% worked! Thanks for the great tip video!
Glad to see I'm not the only one to do this. I've been doing this a few years now as I get yarn that is donated to me. Thanks for sharing an awesome tip!
Thank you so much for showing us how to wash yarn. I buy a lot of yarn from our Thrift store and the yarn sometimes have a smell to them. Like they've been sitting boxed up for awhile. So now I can actually get all of that yarn out and finally use it.
I am very grateful that you gave us this information! I had no idea how to do this. I have some yarn that I inherited and it smells a little musty. This came at the perfect time! Thank you so much!
Thank you for posting this!! My cat rage-peed on my afghan project bag and I wasn't sure if I could wash the whole skeins or if I had to unravel and specially wind them. Definitely going to give this a shot!
Thank you so much, I get yarn at goodwill sometimes and since they bag them in taped ziplock bags you can't find out if there is a smell until you get it home. I got some the other day and it smelled of cigarette smoke and I thought I would have to throw it out. I never thought of doing this, so simple.
Exactly! Especially these days we can't turn down yarn anymore because it's getting more difficult to find, plus, I kind of think the stuff they made a few years ago sometimes is better than what is available today.
This helps a lot! I got a bunch of yarn from my grandma including one new looking white skein. I haven’t used it because it’s dirty looking from being so old and sitting in the bottom of the closet. I’m exited to finally have a way to wash it so I can use it rather than having it sit in the yarn bag!!
Thank you! The nylon is a Fabulous idea! I have yarn I didn’t know what to do with cause my son gave it to me out of a friends storage unit! Needless to say with the garbage bag etc… So now I can make good use of it! God Bless you!😊
Thank you so much! I scored two huge tote bins full of yarn and another if crochet thread - every weight and color! I am now confident how to clean them!
I'm amazed at this video. I love working with the yarns that no one wants or its older. I have worked with some that's pretty bad I always threaded through it and washed it afterwards and then gave it away Now I have the knowledge on how to wash it first. Thank you so much for sharing 💕
I loved the beagle smell test at the end haha, very effective! Sometimes I feel just as sensitive as a dog to smells so if I ever get into crotchet like I want to try I'm gonna keep this tip in mind :D
This is super useful to know! I've received a lot hand-me-down yarn that's been sitting in attics for years and this seems like such a good way to freshen it up! I always want to use old yarn so it doesn't go to waste, but I also always hesitated to for fear of dirt and germs. This is a perfect solution to that issue! ^^
Great idea. I have some a friend gave me and my cat try’s to sleep on it. I tried your method to wash the yarn 🧶 and my cat now just wants to play with the ball. Thank you, big fan of yours.
That is such a great idea. This is one of the reasons I love watching your channel. Don’t always comment but always watch and like. I learn so many new things and tricks of the trade. Thank you thank you.
Excellent, thank you. I've wondered if yarn could be washed while still in the skein, and now I know + the best way to do it! Your Beagle is adorable & the perfect guest appearance! 💗🐶💗
I washed three balls of cotton yarn once (because a drink split in my dag). I tied them up in a fabric bag to wash them, but unfortunately, the bag split in the machine!😮 When I opened the machine there was a big stringy mess in it! It took days to untangle it all, but I did it.😂 If I have to do it again I will use the pop socks.
Thank you so so much I have a couple of skeins of yarn later what you might call a friend I don’t color that she gave me and they smell like cats so I have them in our Walmart sack tonight to try and not get that smell all over the rest of my yarn So now I can wash them.
Thank you so much for this amazing advise and video! I wish I would have known this several years ago when I trashed my mom's unfinished crochet WIP that was smoky and musty! And when I've passed up so great sales on yarn due to the strange unbearable smell! Lesson learned!
Hey thank you for this. Wanted you to know what I found. I used my reusable vegetable nylon bags which allow for more than 1 skein. I then did a pre wash with vinegar which allows for sterilization odor neutralizer and color set. I then used normal delicate cycle and my normal detergent and scent booster . It worked amazingly!
That's a good idea.. I don't like to work with acrylic yarn because it's too rough for me and it makes a sound while working with the hook that I don't like. Thanks for sharing this method, if it's soft I will definitely go back to work with the acrylic again.
Great info thanks for sharing! I wondered whether or not we could do that and I’m going to imagine that a piece that has been completed. Could be done in the same morning from format as long as it is wash and dry, yeah?
I tried this with some really, rough, cotton yarn that I got as mill ends. It did not go well and tangled horribly in the lingerie bags. Maybe I'll try the knee high trick. Thx, Donna! 😊👍🧶
