To answer that question. You don't need internet to receive over the air channels on ATSC 3.0 with the current software installed but you must have internet to receive features and software updates. You could take your receiver box to a friend s internet or work internet and do updates but you will miss out on special features that require internet.

That is a good question. I won't have internet in my retirement home just a cell phone. I don't think I will route my cell to a wifi router. But I plan on putting up an antenna to pick up over the air channels. I also don't plan on having more than one or two at the most TVs.

Sorry but I don't understand Why I need connect to the router? If I don't have an Internet I still can watch 4KTV ?

The way I understand it is with ATSC 3.0 stations can send banner ads layered over the broadcast so to get new content it needs internet access. Think of it like Blu-rays and Ultra Blu-rays when you play a disc some will pull new movie previews from the internet so you don't see old movie trailers. That's kind of how I understand it. I could be 100% wrong but hopefully I am close.

This guy doesn’t know exactly what he is talking about. First of all ATSC 2.0 was never deployed…..all current broadcasts are done with digital ATSC 1.0, ATSC 2.0 has not been implemented. And secondly if you have a tv or a standalone 3.0 tuner it will scan and load 1.0 and 2.0 channels together. Under 1.0 channel 4 should appear as 4.1 as 3.0 the channel will probably appear as 104.1 I could be wrong about other areas but where I live that is how they are defining the channels. So you could select either the channel as ATSC 1.0 or ATSC 3.0……… again there is not a 2.0 channel.

The video is about how to view 4K from an over the air antenna. Both the TV and external tuner have 3.0 capabilities + we demonstrated how the devices listed scanned channels.
