A few months back my girlfriend bought a backpack from a brand called Nordlicht. It said that it was Waxed Canvas but, in my opinion, it wasn't. Through the summer that was fine but coming into the autumn the weather is getting worse here in Berlin and a little protection from the rain is needed. So I got to work with a block of Fjallraven Greenland Wax, an iron and a little "let's try it and see" attitude. Results are in. Results are good.

I've waxed/re-waxed a few things. My favorite waxes to use are Outback Trading Duckback Dressing and Filson's Oil Wax. Both of them have a similar, soft consistency (not in bar form like Fjallraven and Otter Wax) and they apply _very_ easily. A heat gun shouldn't be too hot, just make sure to keep it moving and use the lower temps on it. But my favorite thing to do: put the waxed item in an old pillowcase, or in the case of a bag, turn it inside out and zip it closed. Throw into a dryer on medium heat for about 20 minutes. This method really makes the finish so much more even than anything else I've tried. And it's perfectly safe, for those wondering. Even high heat is not hot enough to combust the garment or wax.

Nice, great tip! but there is no residue in the dryer?

I bought a kaft backpack which has similar hardware to this pack, but at £40 I didn't feel like it was a rip off. I used Greenland wax on it too a week before this video came out, massive coincidence.

40 quid is OK I guess. This one was about 100 or so. Plus 10 bucks for the wax. I feel that is too much.

Hey i need an advice on raw denim. It very difficult to get selvedge raw denim in India, i did find one or two jeans but they were not my size they were one larger. With denim bcz you want it to stretch not shrink so i believe they are no a go. Now for my question. Although I can't find 100% cotton raw denim jeans i did find quite a few from good brands selling them but they all had 2% elastine. Should I buy ones with 2% elastine or try harder to find 100% cotton or maybe get a pair stitched although it will be quite a hastle?

I would try a little harder to find the 100% cotton alternatives. If you are new to raw denim then it is better to start off in the right way.

@@CeeAreDee thanks for the efforts. I found a good quality selvedge raw denim from a small Indian brand Mr Bowerbird for with great discounts. I also ordered denim jacket from unbranded though i had to pay 16USD in shipping charges.

Great video and guidance. I was thinking that to save the iron you could use some baking paper (or reusable baking sheet). Edit: not sure how to designate or translate “reusable baking sheet” (it’s like baking paper but you can re-use and wash it).

I found that the was would just evaporate when I left the iron on hot. Never showed up on my clothing or at least not that I noticed.

Good to know! My iron is 32 years old and it’s been through a lot, but not ready to part with it just just quite yet!

I just waxed my canvas backpack with Fjallraven wax. However when I compare with some pictures of other waxed canvas, mine looks much less waxed as it doesn’t have a plastic feeling. It looks actually more like yours. Should I keep waxing? I just tested and it’s waterproof now.
@CeeAreDee

I also had the same thing. Didn’t seem that “waxy” but was waterproof enough. I wouldn’t overdo it.

I can melt fjällräven wax with my hair dryer, it just takes a while

My hairdryer is this little travel thing. Basically gets as hot as a deep breathe 😂 Fine for drying off my short hair, not for melting wax I guess.

VIDEO IDEA: I would like to see the results of what happens (short term and long term) if you wax raw selvedged denim (pants, jacket or both).
@CeeAreDee
@CeeAreDee 3 года назад
Waxed denim doesn’t really work. It becomes too heavy. Barbour and belstaff are around 6oz. Tight woven canvas. That would be a very light denim. And the weave of the canvas is very very tight. Denim is more open and so reduced the water resistant properties.

Was this marketed to women/a women's model? I feel like this is a common problem with women's clothing, and I absolutely hate it. I like durable, rugged workwear, and I have trouble finding it for me (i am a petite woman) You and your girlfriend should make, like, a comparison video of same brands and products but mens models vs womens models. If you want to, that is! Love your channel!
@CeeAreDee
@CeeAreDee 3 года назад
Hey Elin, yeah, the market between men's and women's and the divide between the two has always interested me. It's a good idea you have with the comparison... Maybe Red wing would be an interesting one for that.

I bought my kanken bag 2 months ago and I am disappointed to find out that the bag isn't waterproof for the price you pay. Why the hell would you still have to wax it? Surely a bag of this quality should be waterproof on its own. Please enlighten me guys
@Izinaima
@Izinaima 2 года назад
It is not meant to be waterproof, it is waxed from purchase, but it is only water repellant.
