I'm so excited you did this video! My wardrobe is 90% black because it goes with everything and it's what I feel the most confident in. Some people in my family give me hard time about it, but I usually get a lot of compliments on what I wear so I think I'm doing something right! Thanks, miss Audrey! 💚
I’m an older woman. Have worn black all my life - I love it to this day. Yes, I still get flack from family about it so my answer to that is I have the same privilege as everyone else to dress with what makes me feel good and comfortable as they do with their choices. I also got flack about my hair going gray and it’s still gray. I’ve also get flack because I don’t wear “enough” makeup. I still don’t. I also get flack because my hair is long. It’s still long. I have the satisfaction O being true to myself and confident enough not to transform into someone they consider “the norm or what’s best for me”. Bless their hearts for trying but I’m a happy camper just the way I am.
I love how you discuss being intentional and how outfit choices lead to a certain "vibe", because that is an important aspect of wearing clothes that sometimes gets missed. Great ideas, as always!
I wear black to travel or eating out at messy dining venues…like Italian. It covers tomato sauce splatter and olive oil rather well. Accent with colorful pocketbook or scarf.
I love wearing all black! My sartorial choices can be along the lines of Sicilian widow during the hotter months - as long as the garments are light and flowy, it works - for me, at least.
@@lorigraham2496 my brother is like that too , a pale red head. I’m more strawberry blonde and I can tan a little (though I try not to now that I’m in my 30s)
Loved this! I so appreciate the concept of “creating a story” as opposed to “this is right and this is wrong”. There is no wrong. Fashion is a unique and personal expression of ourselves and you have completely captured that. Consistently love your style and your beautiful heart shines through continually as well! 🙏✨❤️
One of my favorite wearing all black quotes from the 1940 - 1950s film noir genre “Only femme fatales wear black during the day “. I was a teen during the late 70s early 80s and when I wore an all black outfit to school I got a LOT of reactions. Some thought it was cool and others tried to make fun of me. Now all black is a fashion staple and I still wear it even in the summer. Love all the suggestions especially the different textures and silhouettes. Please do more 💕
I really want to try mixing up the texture of my black pieces, but I''m going to have to wait for winter for it work for me. However, I recently saw an Instagram story by Allison Bornstein about styling a black dress in summer, and she used woven basket style bags, bright jewelry, and casual shoes, which I loved and immediately started planning in my own wardrobe.
Wearing all black is my go-to, and the one thing I would buy too much if I didn't have limited 1930s-style closet space is black knit sweaters in every shape and with every type of collar imaginable. One can never have too many black sweaters, just too small a closet.
I think you are right about all black being seasonal and regional. Where I live, all black is typically reserved for funerals and worn by goths. Occasionally on dark snowy days of winter, people wear all black, but its still not the norm. These techniques could make all black more socially acceptable, especially if accompanied by a pop of color in a shoe or bag.
I love your personality and how you portray fashion as an opportunity to explore oneself without judgment or making fun of others choices (unlike a lot of people who claim to preach how to be elegant or fashionable by just making fun of other women - so not elegant) ❤️
Really great video. I find it so much easier to wear all black. I really wish I could pull off all-white, but it always turns out see-through and showing off all my oblong bumps, outlines, blemishes, and misplaced interior pockets. Black conceals more, and it's so much easier. (I'd still love to nail some white outfits, though.)
🤍 Adore an all white look, esp. a LWD in 🐚Spring or Summer, but I must live vicariously through others. 🧲 Dirt seems drawn to me🤣. Think Pig-Pen style〰️like the messy boy featured in the Peanuts comic strip series by Charles S. Schulz who walks about in a cloud of dust. 😉 Can usually manage to keep a white top blemish free, but not so great @ keeping any type of white bottom (short, skirt, or pants) sparkling clean. 😖Hate having to struggle removing marks to return such garments to pristine state. 🤗Thankfully, you don't have to be as vigilant about where you sit, lean against, or brush up against while wearing black🖤. 💚 Bridget from Cali ☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)
It's been a while since I've worn an all black outfit, but these tips are really helpful! I especially love adding pops of color to an all black outfit; red seems to be my go-to color of choice. Thank you for the inspiration, Audrey 😊💖
Oh I love this video. I wear a lot of black but not in the summer, maybe at night, as often it's far too hot in Western Australia. However, in winter absolutely and as it is winter here now, I am going to put this into practice immediately. The tip to add texture has inspired me 😊 As always thank you Audrey 🖤
Wow can we just take a moment to acknowledge and appreciate your softly spoken tone in delivering your presentation. It is so amazingly calming and tranquil. I too love, love black, but also wear a lot of black and white. Definitely agree with using different textures when wearing all black to create more interesting. Thank you for this video. Coral👍🏾
@@anla3957 So- I was just making a statement- actually her voice was beautiful before she changed it- Audrey has a video about how she changed her voice, actually slowing down her speech to sound better- look it up if you have not seen it
This might be a fun idea to explore more neutrals. Navy, camel, you wear so many neutrals so well, it might be neat to explore the different personalities of the neutrals. Just a thought.
I usually wear (and love all black) - easy, classy, cool. The only drawback are the people who feel compelled to ask me whose funeral I am dressed for. My stock response is to glance around the room, shrug, and reply, “I haven’t decided yet.”
I love your videos with the wide range of ideas you provide, even if I can't always get wear that fashion ( tops with words🤔). Today's video is GREAT!👍👍
I love black but being gold undertone makes it tricky to have it near my face. I suppose a warm black might work. Would you be open to do a video about an all black outfit warm black and cool black or a mix for the neutral skin undertones? I love your color series and your soft spoken tone of voice Audrey!
I find it hard to look good in an all black outfit. Makes me look gloomy and tired. Will try some of your tips to see if I can spice it up. I'm always drawn to bright colours that make me feel happy when I look at them, particularly orange and yellow. Love your videos Audrey and find your style tips and colour combination advice inspiring
Not everyone's skin tone looks good in black so you may not feel great because your skin shines in colour. Maybe keep it away from your face if you want to wer black so it doesn't wash you out. 😊
Summer... we are in summertime. I like wear black, but your ourfits exhibition is very winter. Please, may you planning a black summertime outfits? Thanks a lot.
a great idea ...i live in very hot climate & black is very difficult .. in summer months i break it up a bit with white ..white linen pants .. keeping the accessories really summery ..a blk & white print can work too....
I have worn all black for years, adding in moss/olive greens, some blues, and lavenders. And maybe a bit of brown or grey. I found, when I went through the worst of menopause, that the dark colours were my friends as they did not show sweat stains from hot flashes as much. Thankfully, I can now add some of the lighter blues and greys back in to my wardrobe.
As a spring (warm skintone), black makes me look a little grey and doesn’t suit my skintone particularly (like it does yours Audrey). However, like most women I enjoy wearing black and so I try to lift the face area with bright scarves or jewellery. Just played a gig last night and wore a 50s style black cotton crossover dress with a great shape and accessorised with a multicoloured statement necklace and bracelet then painted my nails different colours and put on some vintage style multicoloured sandals ..., just small bright pops of colour to lift the black really worked for me. As always, loving all of your content and quiet presentation. Thank you from the UKX
Audrey! I would love for you to go back to your old videos and do a talk through about your past outfits, what happened to the clothes, or what changed, just comparing now to then! Would be fun!
Such a classy color and so easy to dress up or down with shoes, scarves and accessories. ❤️😁 I learned this from my Mom (also dark/navy blue or brown as a foundation.).
I love summer for its energy it gives us but i can not wait for fall... i love being able to wear black and slight layers and not sweat. Thank you for this video
🖤 For me, black is all season. Have to choose more light weight & breathable fabric options here anyway. Only the lightest layers are ever possible... ...Unless you happen to live in a spot more influenced by cooling coastal 🌊 weather influences. I can stand a cardigan or blazer in an office or location like a hospital, bank, library, museum, theater, restaurant, retail store, church, etc. The central air is usually kept quite chilling🥶 in these places🎉. 😎 In Los Angeles, there is no escaping sweat 💦 if you're outdoors (or cooped up inside w/o A/C❄️). 🗓️ This natural bodily response to high heat🌡️can be a year round experience. It really depends on the whims of 🌱mother nature. 🙉 At least in the Valley, we mostly bake in blistering dry desert heat 🏜️. Moist, tropical🌿 humidity combined with burning hot sun🌞 is like kryptonite to me😱. 💚 Bridget from Cali ☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)
Thank you Audrey I too like black and have many beautiful pieces and dresses that I used often . Black is my favorite clothing and I do feel comfortable wearing black .
Yay! I'm so happy you made this video, thank you! 😁 I wear a lot of black and have done for many years, lately I've been trying to find ways to make it more interesting and sophisticated looking. My latest fave way to wear it is by playing around with different textures like you mention here and also with brightly coloured shoes and accessories. I love creating bold contrast and black is such a beautiful canvas to do that with.
I wear a ton of white accessories with my black summer dresses. It never feels weird. White sandals, white cuff bracelet, white statement earrings and white bag. Sometimes I throw on a white linen cardigan or duster over a black tank dress . Great video!
Hi Audrey. My black clothes fade. I wash in Woolite for Dark colors and I line dry and still they fade over time. I'm a single Mom and can't afford to dry clean every week. How do you launder your black clothes?
Maybe some black fabric dye would help? I found some at the drug store here in Germany, specifically for clothes. You just put all the clothes you want to dye in your washing machine with the fabric dye and wash them as stated in the instructions :) It's not a permanent solution, but it helps a bit.
@@purrrfectblood I never thought about dying them. I'll try that. I don't mind denim fading. I've got a blouse, trousers, and a few sweaters that could probably be dyed. Thanks for sharing this idea. 🙂
You could try washing your clothes less. Let them dry in the sun and fresh air in between washes. The benefit is freeing up your time from doing laundry every week.
I have an all black tank top jumpsuit that I love so much and will always have in my wardrobe. It layers so easily and nicely every time, every season. It’s definitely a go-to
Loved this. I’m leaning more and more to this color. You are right it’s just classic and elegant. It can really make you look expensive, elegant and very intelligent.
Outstanding! A sincere thanks for the clever creative and cute ideas/suggestions. I am older and very fair in complexion and colouring so wear more navy but with your ideas and excellent examples I am going to venture into black. What fun!
I have light skin, red hair and blue eyes, so black can either really work for me or make me look like a corpse. One thing I find that really helps is making sure my skin looks healthy and I have enough definition around my eyes and lips. That way I still look healthy and alive, and then all the black doesn't look so stark.
I periodically work a job in Chicago that requires a uniform of sorts, a company polo shirt that’s black with black pants. I look super washed out in black, but the outfit itself looks good on me, kind of like I’m the lead in a thriller spy movie. 😂 It’s definitely proof that an all-one-color outfit is sleek and chic and makes a shorty look a bit taller.
You look so good in all black. I wish I did, too... It's just too harsh for my personal coloring. Charcoal works for me, though; and I love charcoal. :-)
Audrey, I can't understand it, I'm subscribed and clicked the bell to get notifications for all your videos but did not get notified for the previous two videos before this one. So weird. But do happy that now I have 3 new videos of yours to watch. Xxx
You tube is doing this to all simple nice channels, a lot of my channels I am subscribed too are the same, and I have few channels I hit the notifications for yet I don’t get any. You tube is more interested is unethical channels and it’s sad. So I always just look up my channels I love.
I also noticed how lovely the eye shadow and lipstick colors complimented each other. Would love to know the colors-maybe for a future makeup tutorial!
I really enjoyed this video, Audrey. I am a sign language interpreter so I wear all black most days, for work. Unfortunately I prefer NOT to, and since learning that I'm a Soft Classic, I realise that it's really too harsh for me, but I love my job, so...! At least you've given me some ideas on how to look good and not just give up and be boring about it! (I enjoyed hearing you say you prefer to wear a boxy top with a fitted bottom - so true to your Flamboyant Gamine body type!)
great advice on textures, never through today it, thank you audrey. i shy away from black during summer, but as soon as the cold weather comes in, i enjoy wearing it. it is such a nyc color! i love wearing my hair up like you are on the video, with black or dark brown eyeliner
I love black but I always have to have the lint brush on hand ( I have a dog) ! I know you have pets, how do your black clothes look so clean and perfect and lintfree ?
Dearest Audrey 🌹 Greetings from the most isolated City in the world, Perth Western Australia. I've only just discovered you and feel such appreciation that I have. You are a beautiful, intelligent ( that includes your style ) articulate lady that encompasses so much of the divine feminine. Your grounded advice is a pleasure to watch and I sincerely look forward to seeing more as your path evolves. Presentation par excellence. ✨🌟
Black is my favorite color. I live in Las Vegas, and I wear it all year long. You can wear any color with black and style it up or down. Love it. 💗 Great content. 👍 keep these up, please. Can you do one for accessories for summertime?
I have a question. Sometimes I find that the items I want to wear together are two different blacks and just don’t seem to go together. Maybe the undertone? Like a black black vs a grey black vs a greenish black. They all usually just look black until I put them together. Any suggestions about how to manage this or to avoid this when purchasing items?
What you are referring to is the "cast". Due to the types of dye used and the way different materials reflect or absorb light, black can appear to have a colour undertone or "cast" in certain lighting conditions. Hence the hints of blues, brown, green, purple, red etc which you noticed. The only solution is to check for this when choosing clothes so you only end up with items in the shade of black which flatters your skin tone. Unfortunately this will require a bit of trial and error at the start.
I love this video. One of my favorites of yours. I love all black, too. I like playing with shades when I wear it and then adding accessories to "tell the story." Such wonderful inspiring photos throughout this video, too.
As someone who has to wear all black clothes to work, these tips are so helpful and appreciated and I will definitely be trying some of them out for my next shift 🖤
All black is really chic and easy to style. I love the way you pointed out the combinations, also I like your outfits... I don't know the reason why but I don't really like the street style of the pictures, maybe one photo was fine, I guess oversized is not my thing.
I recently gave away over half my wardrobe. Just wasn't wearing the pieces. I kept a lot of black, especially in my casual clothes. I do not gave even 1/10th your style. I need one stunning outfit for business soon. I will keep these pointers in mind. Thanks
A few years ago I got rid of almost all my black clothes and intended to buy no more. But very recently I'm coming back to it, although it's not my best choice (I'm soft summer and look pale in black).
