Agree with all your points except the length. I think the longer length makes your legs look longer and cutting or rolling them chops your leg off making it look shorter. Not convinced.
I agree. I feel almost like "The Emperor's New Clothes" vibe. I "see" ankle jeans as unflattering, esp on shorter legs. The rolled look can be cute, but always shortens the leg.
Marnie, thank you so much for doing this video! I'm barely 5'2" and I struggle with wearing straight leg jeans because I'm a senior and, and in everyday life, I'm not wearing high heels. Most of my booties are 1.5-2.5", so those are fine. I've always felt that a little ankle skin showing looks best, even when you can't wear heels. You know, Marnie, you can easily shorten your jeans, that are raw hemmed, yourself. I have a tailor, but for those jeans, I just cut them off a little bit, throw them in the wash, toss in a low dryer and then trim if necessary! It's really easy and hard to mess up. Just don't get too crazy with the scissors 😁
I really enjoyed this video. REALLY! I found the step-by-step/one change at a time format made visual sense of the tips you were offering. Being “on-trend” seems much more doable to me now. Also, I really like the composition, lighting and staging of the video. I like your staircase as a background, fresh and uncomplicated and I liked seeing you in the corner talking through the tips. Great content. 🥰🇨🇦
Hi Marnie, you are so darn cute!!! Plus, you know your stuff!! I loved all your suggestions. I was having trouble getting my straight leg jeans to look good. After seeing your great video, I am getting then hemmed for sure!! Thanks so much!!
Hi … I love the look of showing a sliver of ankle skin but here in Chicago that may cause a little more shivering ! Nice ideas and looks though . Thank you !
In my opinion, if crop/capris make you happy and you think you look cute in them, please wear them!! I personally don't wear something just because they are in style or trendy. I hope that people wear clothes for themselves and not because we are told that it is not "trendy" anymore. Sorry that just really struck a nerve for me.
I buy cropped jeans because they come down to my ankles. It's because I'm petite 1m60 and jeans are always too long. And I don't like cropped jeans as a fashion item but I buy them because they are not cropped on me (the 7/8 length)
I have mixed feelings on the French tuck. I definitely like the way it looks. Even though I’m tall and thin, I have the dreaded menopot…so I feel like the French tuck is shining a spotlight on my worse feature! Thoughts, anyone?
I think it depends on the way your pants are fitting that day. I need to explore less stretchy jeans. While they are super comfortable, they also don't suck anything in!
@@bubblestheterrible yes! I think Oprah coined it. Literally I went to bed normal about age 53 and then woke up with it. I go to the gym almost every day, and there it still is. I hate it!!! My trainer keeps saying give up all carbs, and I keep saying let’s not be ridiculous!!
basic question….socks or no socks? And if you do prefer to wear socks, suggestions on the kind- that stay put especially boots that have the deep V? I’m 5’2 so this was really helpful!
I generally only wear socks in totally enclosed shoes. As long as you can’t see the socks, it’s up to you. There are tons of no show options. I like the PEDS brand.
I love how you did the changes in steps so we can actually see the difference. The next statement may be an unpopular opinion and that ok because I would love to hear if anyone agrees or disagrees. In the first look there was a huge difference when you changed from sneakers to booties. Your legs definitely looked longer and leaner, but then I think when you cuffed them to show the little bit of skin it cut off your legs again and made them look shorter. I know this is the style so you can see your shoes, but I think it shortens the legs. Thoughts?
I don't disagree with you, but I am barely 5'2", high waisted and have long legs. Cuffing my jeans and showing a bit of ankle, I still think flatters me. So, it might depend on your leg length not your height overall.
Back in the day having jeans hit above your ankle means you outgrew them! 🤪 So I'm having a hard time with this trend . When you say just above your ankle are you talking the top bony part? The ones you have look way above the ankle?
Ok, how are we to wear these jeans in the colder months when having your ankles showing isn’t practical. I know you live where this isn’t a problem. But when it’s cold, this won’t work.
Confused….You said cropped jeans went out of style a long time ago and then later said you would hem your raw edge jeans to be more cropped?! Maybe I misunderstood.
I was immediately confused too. So thanks for your comment. I also thought she probably meant to say Capri jeans. Often times crop jeans like she's wearing are also referred to as ankle jeans.
The before and after is amazing! I can't believe how much the front tuck and the shoe change elevates the look. I still can't get used to having skin show at the ankle, at least on myself. I also can't figure out how to wear sneakers and jeans. It seems to look good on other people but I always feel frumpy.
@@sheilalada3032 Lol. So many fashion bloggers (not Marnie!) will show themselves in a coat, scarf, and hat but then no socks with skin showing at the foot/ankle. I don't get it! Thick socks and boots in winter all the way!
I’m still struggling with this trend. Fine in the summer, but you’ll never pry my skinny jeans and tall boots from my frost bitten hands during a Canadian winter.
It’s amazing how the smallest things can totally change how an outfit looks - like tucking a shirt or a shoe change :) I may try this with the heel, because I think that is the only way my short self could ever pull off straight leg jeans 😂
Im on my feet all day for work, and heels of any kind is just not an option. I still want to wear my straight leg jeans in a flattering way. Could you make any recommendations or maybe a video showing how we can wear straight let jeans with flats? Casual everyday and workwear? That’d be awesome! I have your same body type and shape, your videos are always very useful for me!
Yes-it’s ridiculous. Moving forward I’m going to stop trying to explain myself. If someone is that easily offended then they should just stay off social media.
I can’t tell you how refreshing it is to get practical fashion advice from a women who isn’t young enough to be my daughter. I appreciate your content more than you know! Thanks for posting.
I'm just not a fan of straight leg jeans. They're not for me. I'm very classic and like boot cut jeans most of the time. If I wear skinny jeans, it's with knee length boots or pointy heels and I do have nice legs and ankles, so that looks good on me. But, mostly I wear boot cut. I'm glad that you are having fun with straight leg jeans and know how to wear them for the best effect. xo~linda
The shoes really are everything. Although it seems where I live and work no one really cares what they are wearing anymore. I feel like an odd one out when I am dressed even in booties everyone is like "why are you so dressed up?" Is this just where I live or has the world changed since the lounge wear year?
I agree 100%! Going out to dinner my hubby and I like to dress up, now I mean nice jeans, cute shoes, sweater, collared shirt for him.... that's "dressed up" any more, even just that we are dressed up more than most.
Very helpful...i love the cool tones on you...my colouring🌈 is very much like yours. Do u hv any tips on how to wear the tucked in look with a little mum tum 🤞x
Love that you kept in the “goofs” as you say, instead of doing it over. So rare and refreshing! I take your advice to heart more than most you tubers because you are always real! Thank you! 💕
This is EXACTLY what I needed. My straight leg jeans were waaaay to long. I cut them off this morning. What a difference!!! Thanks so much for this info.
I love your tips. Keep them coming. I haven’t bought jeans in a while since I live in Arizona and I’m definitely going to buy some straight legs soon so this was helpful 😀
💟 Enjoyed the simple explanation & visual presentation on the most flattering look for both shoe & jean length. I find many Utubers go through too much of a complicated method regarding this subject & I wind up not watching it!!! Thank you! 💟💜💟
I enjoyed this. Like how you explained and showed before and after. Im in your age group and want to be on trend, but not trendy. Thanks. Would also like to see this as it relates to make up too.
Enjoyed the video. 💐 booties make all the difference for another shorty here! I LOVE them. Front tuck looks great, you ROCK IT; just does not work for me. 60 & a little thick in the middle might have something to do with it!! 😂😂
I'm even older, and when I do a front tuck I just make sure that it's loose enough so that it covers the top of my tummy. It still looks better than letting it hang out. Also, make sure you wear tops that don't cover your entire stomach. ☺️
Great tips! I've got a couple lingering questions :-) 1. Showing a bit of ankle is perfect in fall, but I don't want to show a slice of skin when it's cold! Lol. How to wear them long in the cold months? 2. Where do the retro sneaker looks fit in? I want to try, but don't know how. 3. What about mules with a heel? I see them in stores, but not paired with jeans Love this kind of video.
1. I personally wouldn’t wear this when it’s really cold. 2. Sneakers will work IF you have thin ankles. 3. Mules with a heel work just like heels, for the most part. However, I personally think heeled mules look better when the hemline comes to the top of the shoe.
Hi Marnie, This was a very helpful video! I enjoyed seeing what works and what didn't as much. The shoes really do make a difference. I love the NYDJ's. It's the only brand of jeans that I wear. Thanks so much for making this video. xoxo, Karen
My daughter bought me a pair of 501 90s Levis , hadn't had them since the 90ths I was so happy with them I could see myself being in the day but what happened, I messed it up by letting a friends mother to take in on the sides and god for give her she only went and cut them thinking for some reason I needed them taken up, I can do nothing with them onless make a pair of shorts from them but that won't be happening, so my story is im heartbroken over my new Levi jeans that my baby girl still doesn't know what has happened and is wondering why I'm not wearing them after years of going on about how I should get myself some, 😢😢 help I only wanted an old pair
Great tips 😁 I was looking at the Old Navy site and every model showing these jeans is wearing sneakers or flat sandals 🙄 I look foolish doing so or maybe it's an adjustment 😉
I am a plus size gal with very slim ankles...sneakers and flats look great...now I know why! I was envying others because my skinny jeans are never tight on my lower leg...as a matter of fact they look more like straight leg jeans. Finally I am in style, lol! Ps...you are much too hard on yourself...you look great in all your outfits!
Go to dance shop and get a pair of dance tights in your skin tone. They are pretty thick so great for warmth yet give illusion of skin. Bonus is they even hide when you slack on shaving…
That is brilliant!! I would generally say you don't want to see your socks. So if the pants are cropped, you want to wear no-show socks. If it's cold, wear full length pants and then it won't matter what color your socks are.
