Those diagrams for the learning journey to follow through your videos are such a wonderful idea, so helpful when juggling all the content available out there! I'll be stealing that idea if I ever have something important to share.

I am making a border on a scarf. The border is not as wide as the wool fiber that I pull off.. Should I do two layers going the same direction so that the wool can fit in the border space? Thank you.

Hi Elida, many apologies for my slow reply. Yes, just lay out enough wool to cover the space where you want your border. I'm not 100% sure if that answers your question so if you need any more clarification please ask again and give me more information. Thanks!

I am just beginning my wet felting journey. I purchased mohair blend roving, instead of Merino. I've watched a few of your beginner videos and am now ready to make a small vessel. In what ways should I expect the mohair to react differently from the merino? I am hoping that it will just take longer to get to the felting stage. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Nicola, I find your tutorials to be very helpful. I love that you provide the details that will hopefully create professional results.

Hi Sandra, mohair is usually a lot more slippery as a fibre than wool however you shouldn't have any major issues felting with it. I'd recommend trying a small flat felt sample first using three layers of fibre and that way you will discover whether you can felt it down sufficiently enough for it to be suitable for a sculptural vessel. Just remember to keep pulling those fibres in around the end of your resist and all should be well. You might also need to use a little more soap and less water than with wool, I can't say for sure though. Have fun and good luck!

Thank you for replying! I have since made my 1st vessel following your very clear instructions! It took what seemed like hours and hours to felt but finally came together, differently than my vision, but rather nicely for a 1st experiment.@@clasheen

??? When to stop felting my prefelt? Does prefelt always connects???
@clasheen
@clasheen Год назад
Hi Ewa, I'm sorry that I missed your question before now. I like to stop felting my prefelt when it gets to the stage that the fibre is coming together but it is still very delicate. I don't bother washing the soap out, I usually just let it dry as it is until I am ready to use it. If you take your time when felting and rub gently at the beginning, prefelt should definitely connect unless it is well past the prefelt stage. However, to make it even easier you can brush the underneath of it to make the fibres a little fluffy and this will help if you are having problems.

Hi! I’m really new to felting and having trouble knowing when to add pre-felt or embellishments to my felted projects for fear that they’ll fall apart during rolling. So far I’ve just sewn the embellishments on after the piece is done. Is this ok? The embellishments are sari silk pieces, yarn bits, sparkly fibers, etc. Thanks for your videos they are really helpful!!

Hi Karen, many apologies for my slow reply. I highly recommend that you try adding your embellishments as soon as you have laid out your final layer of fibre. You can do this on top of wet and soaped wool or add them to the dry wool, they will felt in quicker that way but won't be quite so obvious in the finished piece. Everything is ok to do so please don't stress that you sew them on, do try adding them earlier though as it will save you so much time!!! Good luck and feel free to let me know how you get on.
