At first I thought I had come across a comment written by a family friend, your stories are so similar but yours has a much happier ending! The friend I spoke of and his dad owned a roofing company, they were inseparable from the time he was a baby & from what I remember he started going to work w his dad every day from the time he was around 5. The parents live on a beautiful farm & had some extra land so they sold it to the son for $1 so that him, his wife, & their 5 kids could build a house basically right next door. The son and his family lived with his parents while the house was being built, which took a few years bc he and his dad built it themselves on their days off. It was so beautiful! The floors were hardwood but very thin strips and had a design built in. The day before they were set to move in, the father and son went to work together as usual & the son was on a roof & took off his tie off harness (idk what it’s called) for a split second for some reason. I can’t remember details but somehow he lost balance & fell from the roof onto an iron fence down below. One of the iron poles went straight into him, killing him instantly. It was horrible & still makes my chest hurt recalling the story! He never got to sleep one night in the beautiful home he and his dad built with their own 2 hands and I remember the family (his wife and kids) still stayed with his parents for a good while before moving in. The pain and the change was all too much at once I suppose. His dad has never been the same, he always said that was his best friend since he was 5. It’s such a sad story! I’m so glad your brother recovered from his brain injury and has a different story to tell! The things we take for granted sometimes are often the most important 🥲
