Those days in high school when life was easy! My fellow band members here (and friends) did a fantastic job. Drums: Chris Monsour (myself) Bass: Raymond Walker Sax: Joe Pas Keyboard: Jonathan Valente Cameraman: Andrew Amine
Evan E he is good, BUT it was too much. A great drummer would know when to be complicated or when to be simple yet full type of thing u knows. U dont need to put 6 tuplets everywhere. This is an old video do I'm sure the drummer has had some more experience with performing and I hope he understands that concept.
TheAwesomeKing86 This was also a talent show lmao not a performance for musicians only.. that is the reason he could be flashy and get away with it. Non musicians tend to like flashy over perfection, like double kick, shredding etc. It shows too. If you look up any talent show with a solo or decent drums the crowd goes wild while the real musicians criticize it in some form or say the applause wasn't needed. That is you right now.
Vizzy Uzumaki that is very true. But what I was getting at is the skill. Difference between good and great. You just gotta know your audience, and know when the right time is to be flashy or not. But yes, you are right.
To play rock i have to say, gets kinda boring kinda fast, its one of the simplest genres out there, but i do have to say, this drummer can do A LOT more then just simple rock.
Adrian R. What the fuck this is the 2nd time seen you in the comments last time it was on pumped up kicks and how you said you were gonna play it at school
I really don't see where all the negative comments are coming from. Obviously, there were a few parts where you rushed or dragged a bit, but that shit happens in live performances. You seemed pretty loud, but that would be different in the studio. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that for a high school band, this is pretty fucking awesome.
Is anyone going to mention that amazing piano at the beginning? Like everyone else especially the drummer we’re amazing, but seriously the piano player is absolutely amazing!
Donosaurs Entertainment he overplayed. There is no doubt he has talent, but the goal for a drummer is to play for the MUSIC, not to make themselves look cool
Maybe mic the saxophone player? I mean of he's gonna fight against two amped instruments and drums you might want to mic the saxophone player. But also I wasn't there, so I dont know if you could hear or not
I don't think being critical and having fun are mutually exclusive. While I do believe you can go too far with being critical (I believe the movie Whiplash is an incredible piece showing what happens when you do decide to go all in on the critical aspect.
seneca Yes but not drummers, drumming is unique to itself if you think about the fact that it's literally learning how to play several percussion instruments at the same time
yeah but 1. I know plenty of young drummers that are honestly worth a mention 2. I caught on to drumming a lot quicker than piano or even to this day guitar, therefore the fact that it's multiple drums at once is kinda irrelevant
Talented for sure, but was way too fast for some of the melodies / added too much in some parts and came off try hardy & messed with tempo. But he's good thats without a doubt.
The drummer sounds loud because this was shot on a handheld camera or possibly a cell phone. If anything, the sax could've been miced and the sound guy would've had it mixed right for the audience. The drums are the loudest instrument on the stage but proper mics make it right for the live experience.
This comment resonates with the sound of truth. He's also secretly as geeky as everyone else wearing a fedora in this video. Not to say that you guys look like geeks, but c'mon fellas, fedoras? Really?
They are saying that because his bass is out of tune and he misses notes a couple of times. They're just saying he's outclassed talent wise. As a bass player it seemed pretty obvious he hadn't been playing for too long
Meetch17 He’s just trying to say the dude isn’t pulling his weight. The other guys are completely shredding on their instruments, and it’s really impressive. The bass player is doing super simple stuff, and he isn’t even doin a good job AT that simple stuff.
Warren Peace I have a 4 year old video of me improvising. I have a lot of videos of me playing rachmaninov concertos for example, however they’re not on youtube. He played very inconsistent and wasn’t very good
Levani theres no single style of 'metal drumming'. Listen to any classic metal drumming and its entirely different to death which is entirely different to nu which is entirely different to groove. There's loads of easy metal, loads of hard metal, loads of technical metal. Wouldnt compare francesco paoli to lars ulrich
I always hate comments like yours Levani Koshadze, don't compare a high school talent show to a professional musician. This kid fucking shreds for his age (keep in mind this was recorded 6 years ago I can only imagine how he's improved).
Uatemydoodle I mean yea but some things you just don’t- you wouldn’t like if if you were in a band and someone said everyone else but you could’ve won it alone. You’d feel horrible
That's true, but it pretty much applies to everything. Just because a soccer team in rank #1, it doesn't mean you need the bottom 10 players. They can be changed and the team would still win. That's life. Not everyone can be MVP.
Yeah, but the start-up if some of the songs would be a little awkward. If only the drummer and sax were going in, they’d have to change the preformance a lot.
im sure the audience wasnt expecting that..."oh great little jack is in his high school talent show...yay..." and then that performance happens...lol...that was awesome.

i like how the drummers quick pacing keeps the slow paced songs from sounding stagnant when you were playing slow songs next to eachother, makes for a very interesting take on those songs coming from someone who loves thrash
idk wtf a blast beat is exactly, I guess I just like the raw energy of his choice of drumming style, when most would feel inclined to play a slow, complimentary beat
Well why not? As far as I know there's no wrong way to play music, there's just interpretations of what sounds good or not so good, based off of one's own musical preference, its that simple
I loved the double pedal, but he did overplay a lot. There are a lot spots where the keys and bass should’ve had more volume. The sax could’ve been mic’d too. I still respect that they had all of that memorized.
I feel for the drummer because from experience when you film drums over other instruments with like a phone or any cameras really the cymbals are so much louder than every thing else which is a pain when you are trying to get a decent vid so don’t hate on the drummer, hate on the mic on the camera it only sounds equal in volume when you mic up the whole kit and every other instrument and then multitrack record it and then separate the instruments then balance the instruments and then put it all back together and then sinc it with the picture recording before you even start to edit the actual vid so don’t hate on the drums being to loud!!!!!! (Basically in short for the noobs it is the mic on the camera that makes the drums too loud not the other instruments being too quiet)
1. Hard in da paint - Waka Flocka Flame 2. Careless whisper - George Michael 3. N***as in Paris - Jay-Z 4. F*** you - CeeLo Green 5. In the End - Linkin Park 6. Don’t Stop Believin’ - Journey 7. Ridin’ - Chamillionaire 8. Moves Like Jagger - Maroon 5 9. Black and Yellow - Wiz Khalifa 10. Clocks - Coldplay
The drummer is great technically and yeah he sounds loud because of where the camera is, but he did seem to overplay a bit. Anyone else think so? (Again, he's great technically, not hating on his skill or volume, just seemed like a lot, coming from a fellow drummer)
Paul Manley yes while he is insane and the fills were nice they were too frequent which caused him to overplay the others and take away from the overall vibe of the show. still great to listen to though
I was exactly like him back in high school, all about the stick spins and the fastest fills. As I’ve gotten a little bit older, I’ve come to really appreciate a drummer who can still play at a high level without stealing the show.
Seven nation is only a vocalist, guitar, and drummer. The drumming part wouldn't fit for the drummer they have anyways, since he obviously likes to show off, and the drummer for the white stripes doesn't know how to play the drums, that's why all of white stripes songs have such a simplistic feel. So no they should not have done seven nation army.
