I realised it the hard way that great pitch is important to win hackathons. When I look at the projects which only won because of great pitch. Literally feel outrageous to stay up whole night, make a working project and lose to someone who made a great ppt of a simple thing 😭
Yes bro just like in scoring exams the examiners dont see our skills and stuff. They just wants the crisp and shine of the outcome thats it. And dont feel any way the learning and expireince wont leave you next time you give a good ppt
@@priyasuthar840 I'd assume it means they effectively communicated the idea and purpose behind their project so that the judge can understand it. The better the pitch, the more likely the judge will remember it (especially because they actually understand it)
It’s not outrageous, if you can’t convince a group of people on why they should invest time, money into a project it doesn’t matter how long you stayed up coding no one’s going to care
I’m going to my first hackathon in 2 weeks and tho I’m not the best programmer and thought I’d be demoralizing for me. But I’m happy to know that their aren’t only devs on the team and it’s a mix of managing and design.
Yes!! You’ll have a lot of fun if you go into it with the attitude of learning. And you can learn from the other devs on your team, from the mentors, and from other teams 😊 I really hope you enjoy your first hackathon!!!
Thanks for the tips! I'll try to remember all this before I head to my first hackathon! Also I love the fact your smiling most of the video and have a great attitude towards these events.
I can't thank you enough as ur video on tips and tricks motivated me to participate in an online hackathon and trust me I learned so much. It would be really nice if you post regularly bcoz your vibe and experience motivates me to do more everyday.
Wow! This video is amazing! Super helpful advices. I am a hacker myself and have participated in several hackathons. Definitely agree that networking/connecting with other hackers/sponsors are the best. I found new friends at both in-person and virtual hackathons, and we are still keep in contact. We are not only participate in one hackathon, but several and won two of them. I love how you mentioned that to have a person with best speaking skill. No wonder why I saw some teams participated in several hackathons together and they always have the same speaker. Their pitch are also really good too, and they did win several hackathons. Love your video! 😍
Participated in an online hackathon and had a great experience but we didn't make up to finals, but were in the top 20 from 100 teams. Feeling kinda bad tho as we tried our best🥺 But thanks for your tips and tricks.
Thankyou so much. Btw, new update is that they really liked our attitude and hardwork nd guess what they are gonna gift us some really cool customized swags😆
Really helped a lot and the way u explained stuff was really cool and cheerful . Since the situation is kinda bad out in the recent times so most hackathons are online now so all the fun u said was now gone ... Hope it returns back to normal
Super good advice. I've participated in many hackatons, I don't remember how many, and won some of them. The best is the connections. And, if it is in person, the food. Haha
I also have a hate and love relationship with them I've done quite a few but only virtually And I'm tired of doing them now that I have the chance to do it in person Esp since I dont meet the requirement for the sponsors that are looking to hire students (I'm not a student at the moment)
Thank you Ill be attending my first hackathon in 9 days. And I just know basic excel and python, I thought Ill be rusted in the hackathon, yet it is not. Hence, thanks again for the info.
OMG MARIA I RECENTLY SUBSCRIBED AND IM DOING MY FIRST HACKATHON WITH TECHTOGETHER ATLANTA AND IM WATCHING THE WORKSHOP VIDS AND YOU JUST HAPPEN TO BE PRESENTING THE GITHUB AHHAHAHA
OMG WHAT A COINCIDENCE 😆 I literally feel like I made git more confusing somehow but I hope it made sense with the random email metaphor that I gave. And the notes are in the presenter notes in the slides so hopefully those are helpful. I showed the way to do it in the terminal to make people feel more like hackers. ALSO GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN MAKING YOUR PROJECT KRYSTAL!!!! 💖
Lol sounds about right for most hackathons 🤣 but you’ve gotta be empathetic that it’s hard to run such a big event and then give them suggestions on how to make it better
Thanks for that, my first video on watching about what a hackathon is and been wanting to learn how to code. Thanks for the clear presentation about what they all are about. I didn't know some you get to travel, that sounds fun. Now I just need to lode some programming skills. I'm mostly in networking, service support and operations management. Sounds fun, like going back to college and hanging with nerds all day with same interest. Thanks for clearing up to, that you don't even need to code and there are people that might seem excited to help you learn. COOL VIDEO!
thank you! I'm happy it helped :) coding is annoying/frustrating at times but very fun when you get stuff to work. And you already understand networking so that's cool. You could build projects around that at hackathons or do something completely different!
I really wanna start doing hackathons but my problem is that I don’t have people for that. Can anyone provide some discord servers or websites where I can find some people?
I don't know any places where you can find people to be in your team unless you tell your friends or people you know to apply. But the good thing is that you can just apply to any hackathon and they will have a discord channel or slack channel for team formation where you can find other people to work with at the start of the hackathon. I have done that many times and met many interesting people so you can try that out!
Maria, hello, where did you find information about Hackatons? What websites can you recommend? I live in Russia and I want to take part in international Hackatons. I only take part in hacks in Moscow so I want to broaden my mind.
Am i Allowedd to enter if im 13? I mean i have some experience on coding and i think im very mature, have great ideas and im good at socializing Btw pleasee quick answer!
Hey (im new dont mind me T-T)~ Tomorrow is my 1ST HACKATHON (its virtual) and IDK WHAT TO DO [ i kinda do but im still clueless :) ] Btw, what's a pitch aLSO... Thank you so much cus i feel more confident now though idk why :/ (ily
Lol I hate being formal too so dw 😉 also you’ll have a lot of fun I hope at your hackathon!!! Just don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Basically the pitch is where you spend a few minutes trying to sell your idea to the judges. You can look at the website devpost to see how people wrote about their projects and the videos/slide shows that they made! AND DONT WORRY IF YOU DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO! it’s all about learning, having fun, making friends (and getting free swag of course 😌)
@@maria_sitkovets_tech oooh tysm i dint expect u to reply i swear tysm tho! Also, im a 13 y.o. teen and well its virtual, im gonna b individual no team or that typa stuff, and i dint even know any1 frm thr wth do i do now?
@@taebear.3366 there should be a way to form teams if they have a discord server or slack for the hackathon so I’d check that out and try to join a team with more experienced people so you can learn from them!
That's literally how I feel everytime too. But recently I started feeling more confident in myself and how much I can contribute so it's been better. Imposter syndrome is a real thing at hackathons
@@maria_sitkovets_tech I'm happy to hear that you're finding the confidence and realizing you've probably put more into it than you thought! Definitely agree with the Imposter Syndrome though. I think I'll work on being better with my contributions, there's always room for improvement.
event though your parents may thought that tooth clips are little bit not good to you sis but it made you more cute and in the end superb explanation of your experience and advises *Just fun less code*
I am teaching myself to develop with freecodecamp and many people recommend doing a volunteer or hackathon to test what I have learned and network. I found your explanation very good, you gave very good tips. 🖖
