@@DeletedDenizen I had some close people tell me they didn’t like him so I axed him. There have been a few people saying they liked him so he may make a comeback!!
I have an answer for you: The reason 3-5, especially offsuit, is called "The slingshot" is because players who cold-call pre-flop raises with that hand got hit in the head as children by a rock, apple or some other item launched from a slingshot, thus explaining their play of this objectively terrible hand. 2 videos in, and the quality of your low-stakes poker analysis is unmatched by any other vlogger. I've recommended your channel to every aspiring player I know, including my own poker students. Keep up the great work!
Man I've been excited for this. Watching I was telling myself "go all in man" on that straight you ended up folding (before I saw he went all in) and it really made me realize we're just not the same as I would have gotten wrecked with that hand 😂😂 very nice fold. Yesterday I was telling myself "part 2 of the series should be coming out soon"... what a gift, best of luck with the next session big man
The intro resonated to me as I've had something similar, called it quits at about '14. GF turned into a wife, two kids, completed university and landed in a decent job. Wasn't quite as successful as you but managed to scrape together about a 100k USD at small stakes cash games playing a some hundreds of hours a year. Eventually came to the same conclusion as you though and focused on the family. I've always felt that I didn't fully exhaust my potential and occasionally have similar thoughts that it's now or never. Did login into my old PS account the other day to see that it's not quite as busy as it used to be. It's unfortunate that many countries passed legislation to segregate their markets out of global player pool and I guess the golden days have passed. But I've to say now that I'm approaching 40, that the teachings from poker, the importance of decision making and the process, avoiding result oriented thinking and the ability to withstand emotional pressure is great benefit in the "standard" business environment as well. But anyway, liked and subscribed already after the first vid. I'll be rooting for you and greetings from Finland!
Thanks so much! Yes very similar stories, and I wholeheartedly agree, the lessons poker has taught me are so valuable and I’ve been able to apply them to many areas of my life as well. Thanks for watching, cheers!
Thanks for being willing to vlog from the cheap seats. I wish you much success. The game has changed so much in the last decade. 10 years ago, I was crushing the small stakes as a pretty solid rec player when I would go to Vegas. Dealers were telling me under their breath that I was really killing it. Now, with all the solvers and live content, jeez, I gotta tell you I don't know if it's ALL skill, or some amount of variance and downswing, but I seem to get my ass handed to me at every table when I go to Vegas. People are just better than they used to be. I look forward to seeing where your return to poker takes you.
You quickly become one of my favorite poker vloggers. You thought process on that straight fold was actually insane and I can’t ever see myself doing that. Good plays!
Another great video, your in depth analysis is second to none in low stakes poker and I hope you continue this journey as I will be along for the whole ride
Some of the best poker content i've watched this year. Pretty much on par with Daniel's WSOP vlogs, from a viewer's point of view. Cant wait for episode 3!
Loved your first video. 1/2 is what I play and I want to learn from guys like you. Probably one of the best 1/2 vloggers on RU-vid. I have been told that if you make 30$/hr playing 1/2 then you're doing something right.
Tell corey to upload already! Great video. Just spun up my first 25 dollar deposit to about 450 then lost it all over a few weeks of play. Killed my motivation. You talking about how you lost your first few shots has helped me renew that motivation to try again. Great video. Great breakdowns. Good luck out there
Thank you for showing some spots where you give up. I know those hands might not be as interesting for the video, but just spending a few seconds showing a hand where you gave up helps me and keeps the video more relatable.
I agree. Being at a talkative fun table is best. If I'm at a silent table, I'll try to get it going. If no one engages, I leave. Even if I'm talking, I pay attention nonchalantly.
Loving it man. I watch a few other vlogs and there are often times I feel I would have made a different play but almost all your decisions are the ones I would make. Looking forward to seeing what you do!
Seeing you cash out for a >100bb profit is a good lesson. Sometimes I have a difficult time leaving when I'm up. In a lot of sessions I'll swing up over 300-500bb, and then play too long and stack off down to breakeven or a loss. It's hard to set a ~100bb goal when you see a couple racks in front of you almost every night, but I think it's important even if it's less exciting.
It would say it’s even tougher leaving when you’re slightly down. It’s easy to leave when you’ve lost a lot, because there’s an existential force telling you to do so. When you’re down 25bb, it’s very difficult to leave because you’re basically giving up and deciding to lose that day, whereas the former that decision has kind of been made for you.
@@k.eyring Yeah it's hard to time your exits on your own terms. I guess it's a discipline thing. Sometimes I try to set a profit goal, but I don't think that's realistic for a game of variance. A lot of the time I leave when I start to feel tired or bored. If I catch myself zoning out, I try to make it my last orbit. I'm working on it!
@@toddfromwork8931 that’s how I do it. Once I start to feel like I’m tired or not playing well then I’ll leave. Ideally it will be before I feel like that though lol
Wow. Two Eyrings to watch on RU-vid. Both fascinating for different reasons. Well Done Kevin, glad to see you building up your channel again and getting back to it, after years of taking a step away to prioritize extremely important things! (Congrats on marriage and fatherhood).
Honestly I have to say you're a better story teller than your brother. None of the fake drama just good narrative and good poker. Good luck on your journey and looking forward to the next one.
Your first video popped up on my feed a couple weeks ago, watched it and was surprised when I heard someone else was also in NH, in the seacoast area. Love the videos and keep up the good work!
if you pause at exactly 1 min. One can see, u made all the right decisions. Well played man. :) ...but, i was looking forward to your second vid. The first one made me instant subscribe- there is someting i can learn here. so thx for that.
That turned straight vs 8s full on the river was crazy - I don't think I would've be able to get away from that. Looked to me a lot like a missed draw or a baby straight.
@@k.eyring Play suggests to me they're stabbing at what they think is dead money when you don't cbet as preflop aggressor. I didn't see at all how they could check through two streets of value there, the J on the turn would slow me down, but at the turn only Q T, 6 7, pocket 8s, 9s or 5s make a hand that beats top 2 pair, everything else is drawing and if I were the villain I would be betting to charge those drawing hands- River just makes it even less likely they have an 8 when they checked flop and turn. Kudos to you. Good read.
Duuuude! Did we meet in Vegas? Wete u a pary of a forum called poker loyalty crew!!? I think we know each other! Awesome vlog! I now have a 3 and 6 year old!!!
Great log buddy I like the fact that you’re playing low steaks and that’s what I play. Good job on explaining on a lot of things. Like you play good hands and not playing crab hands. Way to be disciplined.
@@k.eyring This is the first year that I’m silencing that voice. Every spare moment at whatever $1/3 I can find. I’ll see you in Vegas next May for the WSOP. Thanks for the encouragement brother.
Glad you like them! There will be more but unfortunately with a full time job and a family, time is limited to work on these. Good news is this one took a month to produce and I should get more efficient over time!
Your vlog and hand analysis & explanation is superior to all others! You should do a poker math hand in each video where you do a super deep dive in the math on one hand like you did in the first video….my brain is still over clocked trying to understand that 😂
That card club forgot The Cincinnati Kid poster with Steve McQueen. An all-time classic. Rounders is great, but can't forget the early classics! Maverick is another great watch with Mel Gibson, James Garner, Jodi Foster, and lots of other colorful riverboat gamblers....and the 'river' which is where you lose and end up over the rail and in the drink; hence the term 'river' ('turn' is from the 'bend'). Riverboat card games were the cheaters "bread and butter", but to get away once the mechanic was caught they often only had that one extreme option for escape. 🤠💦..."Moist it is fellas! Come and get me...the water's warm! 💨Wheeeeee!".
A bit curious at the end of the video you left a tip in the basket 👍 are you factoring in taking tips out of the money won on the session and overall profit/loss bankroll totals? Another 🔥 video!
Thank you! I do not count tips. I mainly tip $1/hand no matter how small, and a little larger on big pots, and leave something for the cage at the end of the session. For example: if I buyin for $300, cash out for $504, but I’ve tipped $20 over the course of the session, the $20 tips at the table is already accounted for, and $4 goes in the basket for the cage, leaving $200 profit. That make sense?
Only thing I would add is a time stamp to give some feeling for the passing of time. Too easy to think one hand immediately follows another. Hate to even say that much. Really, really fine video for only being the 2nd one you've made.
Thank you so much! I tried to add that in but you’d be surprised at how adding something so simple can be fairly difficult to achieve. I’m planning on putting it in the next vid.
I'm interested to see if you're also gonna play tournements. I love the content and it would be interesting to hear your thought when playing tourmenent.
@@RigAndRaise haven’t really done much. I’ve been looking into different bet sizes which seems to be the biggest change since I’ve been gone. Overbetting specifically. Doing more checking also.
If you're interested in playing some larger stakes, a friend of mine hosts a private online 2/5 and 5/10 game. Occasionally, a mixed game sprinkled in. Bomb pot buttons and lots of actions. Juicy game.
The 5 is like the wrist rocket and the 3 is like the rubber band and rock.. if you were to combine the two artistically speaking it looks like a wrist rocket or a sling shot.
New subscriber here. Nice vid. If possible, can you also please make a video on how you honed your poker skills, like guides (reading materials or vids)/ mentors you had. Something like that please. Thanks
where do you suggest to study poker? i want reach a solid fondation to start play live cash game. I only did a couple of cheap tournaments with no or almost no real knowledge (just position at the table and a single chart with a basic preflop strategy) stealing a 4.5K prize. I was surely lucky, but I want undestand how much. What is really important to learn?
Hmmm, starting from nothing I would watch videos on RU-vid honestly. Just start with the basics of poker. I haven’t looked for these myself, but I’m sure they are out there. The best teacher is experience, but it’s important to review your play so you can learn from it. My goal is to try and sprinkle in as much super basic stuff as I can for people who may not play the game or are just getting into it. I’ll keep that in mind going forward.
19:03 Can you explain to me what such small betsize on this river accomplishes in this hand? I would assume that you should bet bigger to fold out Qx, especially a somewhat decent Qx with a spade in his hand. Your opponent only having check called the turn and checking the river seems very capped to a Qx holding at best (because if he had a flush or better he would have put more money in on either the turn or river) I know by your opponent's speech on the river that he isn't strong (because acting strong means weak) but still i think a bigger bet on the river to let him fold Qx is necessary. Your thoughts? Nice vlog. 👍👍👍👍
Thank you! I didn’t think he was going to fold a queen. I could have went for a very large bet to try and accomplish that, but you gotta be careful trying to get people off top pair at 1/2.
I know you’re acting on your read, but when the board paired on the river, a re-raise has to be out of the question. At least it was just another $100, and you realized you were beat.
I was going to make the same comment. I think the raise was a mistake. “Leaving money on the table” isn’t a good enough reason. Earlier in the hand you mentioned the board hit their range. When a passive player suddenly takes an aggressive action and leads the rivier, they are either setting a price for a weaker hand or value-panicking. In either case, a raise accomplishes nothing good. What is your value target for the raise? A weaker straight? A8? Are either of those going to call the raise at a high enough frequency to be worth it? Perhaps the raise is good but the size could be more efficient?
I raise to $10 when I’m first in the pot. $15 is my normal raise when there’s been two limpers, or I’m raising with one limper and I’m in one of the blinds.
