I watch these videos and then do not apply the lessons learned to my garbage pubs because I'm also garbage and then I still watch them keep up the great work bro
I lost about 250 mmr this week because my 3k midlaners and carries are total garbage, 10 losses in a row, 1 win then 6 other losses in a row. Then I watched a carry guide from gameleap and realised that, in order to win in dota, you ACTUALLY have to use your brain. So I went from playing support to playing mid (which was my worst position) and now I regained about half of the mmr I lose simply by being strategic about my game decisions. I honestly have no idea how to get out of the under 4k mmr shithole playing support, so I highly recommend learning how to play carry and carry your own ass until 4k mmr.
@@canadianpigeon3713 i have a friend who is a rubick spammer. he got from 2k to almost 4k by spamming rubick, mostly pos 4. (and ofc he didnt only play rubick, but kotl, batrider and some elder titan)
@ dota is dead - no matter how good you are the game just pairs you with the worst scum possible... I (3.6k mmr) did an experiment and played with a friend's account (1.5k mmr) mid only 8 games all games finished with 22/3, 17/0, 26/5, 36/11, 19/3, 19/5, 23/2, 18/0 and I lost 3 won 5 - they just don't want you to move fast in rank
@@idkman4655 i literally had my offlane feed the enemy carry like 15 kills, lose us the game, then go onto the next game as the enemy safelane who fed on my offlane again 20 times, then the guys who fed from the first game just called me bad lmao
@@kindle1951 Well if you are getting countered then any hero would be garbage hero... Imagine Picking AM into dazzle, mars offlane, or Offlane Necrophos into Juggernaut and Witch Doctor safelane... Usually the first picked cores (mostly offlane) will be garbaged in lane, so they must play lane accordingly... Thats what this video is telling...
When you talk about the two extremes in play-styles, headstrong vs too passive, I think of an old strategy from the martial art Aikido about the, ever so elusive, equilibrium. In Aikido, you can't do much without contact so you often want to close as quickly as possible. As you might imagine, this might set you up for getting countered easily when you go in for a technique. The way aikido resolves this is by attacking when the opponent attacks and retreating when the opponent retreats. Think of acting like a guard dog who owns an area, chases trespassers away but does not chase after them. beyond a certain point. There was an an old saying in aikido, "When someone comes to you, embrace them, when they pull away send them on their way." Put another way, punish their proximity with aggression and reward them with distance for the distance they give you. Obviously when you're going in for a fight you wan to time your attack well so that either they land first or they resolve as a counter to their initiation. Any hoo, I've rambled enough. Hopefully I don't sound too derpy. Gl Jenkins!
doesn't work in dota 2. People move away from you because they know they're at a disadvantage, it's your job to pressure not play defensive and give them 50/50. Watch the video man
Likewise a viper or a huskar is gonna be up in your ass because he knows he is stronger than you most of the time. But if you answer by also fighting him back you'll feed and get reported. Cool brag about your aikido knowledge, but totally irrelevant
@@bonkbonk98 What I described is only if you're on a generally equal lvl with your opponent during the laning stage. If your opponent has a power or range advantage on you a lot of the dynamics I describe greatly distort. I realize what I described kind sounds like a strategy to just walk in to get beat down but the part about backing off when they do is equally important. Think of it like this. So long as you can meet them at a relatively equal level, if you follow what I described earlier, you essentially get free movement. For example, if you close when they're trying to close, that's distance you yourself don't have to cover. If you run from them when they run from you that's, again, more distance you don't have to cover. Attack range is a huge factor here too and walking in to fight a ranged attacker is no different than a melee in principal but in execution it's greatly different because range allows a combatant to exercise multiple options, simultaneously within the scope of their range advantage. For example, they can attack while disengaging(ie. kiting.) So through a range advantage, for either a player or their opponent, the act of engaging and disengaging becomes, lets say, "fuzzier," around the edges.
Thanks Jenkins, I needed this video because I was really frustrated at not knowing how to deal with a losing lane. You didn't give many cheese strats, but I think this gives me a good idea on how to implement this when I'm in a bad lane matchup in the future.
Just keep in mind that playing the lane in any other way than "normal" is difficult with random pub teammates. Cheesing the lane is primarily an offlane thing and it all depends on if the pos 3&4 are on the same page on how to play the lane. If you have a competent lane partner or play with a friend and both of you know how to cheese a lane, it's virtually impossible to lose an offlane in dota due to creep pulling.
Of all the +50 10-minute in-depth guides I've seen, this one is top 5 for sure. The most insightful and informative video, perfectly focused to cater to most players around the crusader-archon range. Kudos to you, friend!
Love the 1,000 mmr concept. It's so true. So much stuff exist on the really basics, so much on the 100 mmr specificity. The only one really good at sharing broadly but clearly those 1,000 mmr problem is you. Purge too with his learn DotA series.
I don't even play DotA. I haven't played DotA in 5 years. And I still learned a lot of things from your videos. They just showed up and I was bored. Nice job, dude. Keep it going.
Thanks for the info Jenkins. Some of the techniques are already a habit to me but I usually can't define the situation of the lane till I watched the vid.
how you implement this? i mean do you do this like all at once? or you just play along till you brain move on its own like muscle memory? i mean i can get the concept but sometimes apply it is hard tho, and btw thats a huge increase man, ggwp haha
@@rikiamaru It takes practice, a LOT of practice. I remember a few months back I started playing offlane, picking heroes like Bristleback and Tidehunter and casually forgot to pull enemy creeps away from enemy tier 2 tower until I saw some guide videos like this one. I messed up a lot in the first 3-4 games, sometimes getting ganked by enemy supports because I didn't do the timing right. But now I'm used to it. Every role requires a lot of tricks to master, but eventually you'll get to the point when it becomes your instinct. Just keep playing!
@@mawrk7193 I ain't skilled. But it's been 11 years since I have been playing (WC3/Dota 2). This ain't CSGO, one man's skill is not worth it when you have no cohesion with the team. How well you work with each other and the Dota mechanics wins you the game.
diet pepsi addiction lmao. Jenkins you are golden my boi. be happy that it's just a momentary financial crisis and not mmr crisis. I wish you all the best
Jenkins videos are super good. Respect man. I love the content and the community is also very cool, I like reading the comments the same as watching the videos😁😁
Most informative video I've seen from you. I hope people can see this. I cant stress enough how support players usually over extend and lose lanes simply because of avoidable deaths by overextending. I myself is guilty of not pressuring my lanes when I play core this video just reminded me to be more aggressive and assertive in ideal situations. Well done Jenkins!
Thanks for these videos. I'm new to Dota 2 and I know almost nothing, but your videos simplify a lot of things, making them easier for me to understand
Ok here's the thing if you watch other channels they will only talk about mechanic but jenkins only cares about mindset and logic behind dota I really think the videos that you make are the best guides for a dota 2 player tnx a lot
I play aggressive also when I have certain items (aka upgraded boots typically Tranquil). I've had so many lane partners that don't like me pulling creep waves to pull our lane back towards our tower, but don't pull when their creeps are close to your tower.
Great video! I like the emphasis on cheesing in the offlane as the concept is insanely broken. We see it in every pro match and yet even in moderately high matches people don't use it. I'd add for the other viewer, that you do need good communication with your lane partner for this to work well but if you play with a friend or a competent random teammate you literally don't lose offlanes anymore. Which opens up two questions I'd be very interested for you (Jenkins) to answer here or at dota alcehemy: 1. Do you feel like the concept of creep pulling in the offlane is so broken that it need to be fixed? And if so, how would you do it? That the creeps don't aggro until they pass the outer most tower? 2. I've been playing Dota for 3 years now and even I noticed huge changes in how the game is played. And I always wonder to what degree it evolved because of changes to the game by Valve and to what degree it's just strictly better ideas that people a few years ago didn't come up with. Like creep pulling from the offlane. Was it possible before and people just didn't think about it? Or the deadlane concept? Or the emphasis on keeping waves pushed to gain map knowledge. Todays elusive carries push waves super aggressive and hiding in the trees to cut an additional wave is common even in average pubs. There are countless other examples of how the game changed compared to a few years ago and I think that question is both interesting and open enough to make a nice video about. Like, maybe just write (very) specific changes down compared to old dota, think about whether they are due to changes in the game or truely innovative ideas and discuss it with Donnie. And if you're unsure about the changes in carry/mid maybe you two know someone who is willing to spend 15min talking to you about it.
In SEA Picks 1: hard carry rad 2: counter hard carry dire 3: hard carry dire 4: counter hard carry rad 5 to 10 same as pick 1 to 4 In some unfortunate and Totally unexpected cases either 1 of the team will have a support but play like hard carry.
And when they win it reinforces their idea that picking only carries is the only way to win. Never mind all the other times when they lost because of all hard carry picks.
This is what im waiting for to grind and calibrate, goodwork.sir jenkins, if its ok can you make a video exclusively for PUDGE on any situational laning phase for offlane and soft support in ANY hero lane stage for improving mechanics in the game in high rank levels. Again very infornative.
I feel like I'm going to have to watch again to understand how to cheese the lane like that. Any other videos to recommend on how to do that? I feel like I'd just feed if I went that far past tower
if you know the enemy cant handle you (and they wont survive), harras them, making them harder to farm in lane and guarenting you to carry your team, if you know the enemy is stronger than you (and you may feed them if not carefull), try to play safe and dont feed, even if u may miss a few last hit/farm, as long as you dont feed, its fine he said this because many of the player over pressure the enemy, chase, and feed the enemy because of it, or just got to scared to take the opportunity even if the enemy is running away from you, not taking advantage of the free space, farm, and hero spikes to makes the enemy chance of winning more bleak
@@noahwuwungan7533 And a core part of this is understanding your and the enemy heroes, limits and power. Like if you are playing a Medusa, understand that without items your only damage is your mystic snake and your ult is more for disruption or escape than fighting. So diving someone not near a creep wave to bounce the snake off, probably isn't the best move.
@@mgg4142 no you can't. i tried EVERYTHING. you can't get 1k to 3k by playing support. if you play support, your carry dives 1vs5... if you play carry, your sup might steal your farm... if you play mid, offlane gifts fuckin 150 duel points in 15min.... praying is only choice because fucking system says: ''you deserve to lose same mmr with 2-18 feeders even if you play 10-0. because you are not a fucking booster :)''
Jenkins man, ur videos are great. Cuz of u i went out of the hc role and started doing off. in 2 weeks went from archon to middle ancient. Thx! P.S: Do you have a video explaining the concept of pulling the lane between t2 t1 more deeply? like, which items u need to go out with, which heroes are better to do it, etc?
i totally agree with this, i played in a laning of pudge&rubick (offlane) vs void&techies (safelane), i (as a pudge) cant really kill any of them (void q and techies e get rids of my chance of pressuring them), if you try to pressure them, the techies will just suicide and kill you when the chance come (from overplay/overpressure), and void basically last hit better than pudge and rubick, so i just cheese it out, denying all my creep and bodying void when he comes near the creeps (didnt chase him), while rubick just pull creepwave and messing around in their jungle and deleting all of the enemy jungle camps and techies mines, both of us didnt even try to kill them, didnt even hook much till lvl 6 since i know they just ran away after we hook them in, when lvl 6 comes, i became able to ult them before they escape, changing from a cheese lane into a neutral/pressure lane, and we won, cuz rubick basically minesweep the jungle and lane, while i just harrased void to fail carry, since i rot and body him when he comes near to farm lane (while our other lane won it hard, giving us 2 fed carry and mid)
So the keys to winning lane is to know the powerspike of your hero and opposing hero, and change the pace of the lane when you reach the powerspike. But for a hero like Invoker, how can we tell his powerspike? He has 3 skills that combined for 10 skills and each skill develops at different rate. Simply, how can we tell if Invoker is strong enough to dominate the lane he is playing? Maybe it is the main reason why Voker is hero with Complexity 3
Biggest thing that skyrocketed my skill is realizing that DotA isn't fricking League of Legends. If a lane is terrible, LEAVE. You're not trapped in your lane until 15 minutes like in LoL, actually just fucking go away, it's 8 minutes and you're getting turned into a skidmark on the ground? If you're a carry, literally just go jungle. It's a hard game, but it's better than a stomp. If you're a support, leave and go try to gank another lane. There's no benefit to sitting under tower wondering when they're going to dive you with their 2 level advantage. Go somewhere else on the map and do something. It's like the house is falling down and you're trying to hold it up, you won't, it will crash down and you will die lmao. I've had plenty of games on a carry where we just got banged around in lane, and once I realized it's unrecoverable I go jungle or take the off lane, and we end up having a really solid game despite the horrendous disadvantage.
I'm at this point to call it the "sit&sap strategy" of Pudge pickers. Sit in the trees and sap xp from your core. And some Pudges at lvl1 even after getting a hook they run awaaaaaaay!!!!!! So incredibly friggin useless!!! I'm also counting my lost games due to mids picking Pudge. I'm at 17/20. Yes. 17 games lost! However one of the wins was due to us crushing the sidelanes harder than Pudge losing mid, so there's that. 18/20 games Pudges lost mid and then had no impact. Mb Aghs or a talent should increase Pudges hook (projectile?) speed.
Yeah sometimes sup dont.know what to do when u block the wave they just stand there amazed As a sup player I usually go stack And ward or zone mid But mostly stacking Used to do it with a friend He played axe and I sup He will be more farmed that there mid cuz of stack and wave blocking
this is the first time that I have subscribed intentionally, and I have been a RU-vidr for the last 10 years. I am very grateful that you put the time to make this content, I hope you get rid of that pepsi one day.
That’s way too strong. It’ would make hook a low cd position altering ability with pure damage and low risk. Compare it to vs swap and mag skewer. It’s as game turning as it can be in the hand of a good pudge team and player.
man jenkins i sympathize with you about your hero not being as good as it used to be. All these hero reworks, new items, talents, etc. Tiny wisp is a shell of what it used to be and really makes the game not near as enjoyable for me :(
In cheese game just focus on getting as much XP as possible. Enemy might get gd but ateast you have XP. What i usually do is i block the creeps soo that enemy creeps will enter the tower hit range where i can get Last hits.
I would love some of high rank players play Dota 2 wihtout minimap to show both how important it is and if it is even possible to play dota 2 wihtout minimap . . .
