Hey guys! GOGPlays here. Here is the best siege tactic:
- Select an army smaller or equal to the besieged enemy's.
- Siege the enemy settlement, don't use siege equipment, we won't need them.
- Let AI attack you next turn, flank and defeat them with better battlefield maneuvers.
This tactic works almost always and you don't lose more units when you are attempting to capture city walls, town square. Even when attacking, you should force your opponent to attack you in order to minimize your losses.

Alternative strategy (but a lot cheesier):put a single fast cav unit(The general is fine) to besiege the settlement on one of the corners of the 3x3 square surrounding the settlement, then simply put the rest of your army on the other corner without besieging it. End the turn and the enemy will always sally out.

Does it have to be at the corners? Or as long as the two armies are not next to but adjacent to each other?

This trivialized the Spain / Americas campaign so hard. Basically had all of Mexico by turn 40. Though some cities won't allow you to use this because of impassable terrain and sometimes the AI will refuse to sally even against a single general or mounted conquistador unit because they see it as stronger than a half stack of light spearmen. (the ai is not wrong)

Cool strat but there's always that random moment where you general dies in seconds as soon as you charge.

On this video he was the only cavalry to tease enemy, in a proper scenario you should keep them away, yes.

Try to not charge where at least one spearmen infantry unit locates in a bunch of others units. In classic M2TW, spearmen not as effective against General's Bodyguard and will not be able to knock him down with one blow. But in the Teutonic DLC, one day such a relapse happened. And it was quite the first charge I made.

I just love this game but the AI is really a disaster sometimes. Once I defended with the Poles against the Timurids but the enemy just stood there after the cannons ran out of ammunition.

Haha it's possible. To prevent that you can have time limits for battles. But, it may be bad for you too.

That's the only dissapointing thing with the older games. A lot of these weird AI quirks have been worked out with the most recent total war games. I've never had the ai bug out on me in Warhammer 3.

play one of the mods, sieges in Roar of Conquest or Broken Crescent are really hard since the AI is actually somewhat competent.

You can seige a settlement with one unit and have a full stack on the other side of the settlement and the ai will always sally out. The ai will also charge the full length of the battlefield to your army tiring themselves making an easy win

Or you could just send one troops to siege, when they're sally out exit battle, until the settlement run out of food. You need to exit battle fast enough dont let the enemy out from gate.

There’s almost no reason to attack the walls in medieval 2, with so many strategies like this to get the enemies outside the walls and no attrition or downside to your side if you’re sieging I almost never assault the walls At least for that part they made it kinda realistic, storming the walls was more of the last resort option

Oh yeah, i always remmember about a phrase of sun tzu "If you dont give them a way to escape, they will fight till the last man" Always helps when i wanna minimize casualties on my side

Sometimes AI has only melee armies and if you have decent stack of long range missiles, you may have 0 casualties. Cavalry archer stack can win like this too sometimes.

brutal, but this was still a fairly clean victory that you had to work for yourself, no extreme cheese now if you spam spies into an enemy city, no matter how well fortified, once you reach 100% of gates being open, your army can attack immediately instead of besieging it and autobattle calculation will pretty much assume that it was a field battle. really cheap and easy way to take huge fortifications with numerical superiority without having to try hard on the tactical map

It's all about timing and positioning. Having more missiles raining arrows on enemy, flanking them are the key. If you see other videos of mine, I do this most of the time and it works even on very hard mostly.
