How to WIN the Pianta Slots in Paper Mario: TTYD (Switch) 

There's a faster method to hit the jackpot that I was made aware of a while ago. May discuss it more in depth if I ever get around to talking about all of the parlor games in one video, but if you want to hit the star quickly, you can count the "beeps" the machine makes and press A on the 11th beep when starting the game. This is assuming you already have a star picture on the screen which, surprise, the matching game has a star when you first enter the parlor. If you get the first picture, you can press A half a second later to get the second and press A almost immediately after a third time to close the star out. If anyone wants an idea of if the slots are "worth it", here's an analysis of the speed slots build piantas compared to each of the 4 minigames, assuming absolutely perfect play every time for all of them Slots: 230 piantas per minute Plane: 108 piantas per minute Paper: ~57 piantas per minute Tube: ~49 piantas per minute Boat: ~43 piantas per minute Explanations: The Boat minigame is for sure the slowest. From doing some manual timing, it takes about 13.9 seconds to move from 1 end of the barrier dividing the 2 lanes to the other end if you just hold forward uninterrupted, resulting in a hard limit of 27.8 seconds for lap 1. Lap 2, meanwhile cuts that 13.9 seconds down to around 7.8 seconds, resulting in a hard limit of 15.6 seconds for lap 2. Combine the times of the 2 laps and it results in a minimum time of about 43.4 seconds. Approximating the number of piantas that the time bonus would give you (from my limited testing it looked like about 55 - seconds/2) gives a value of 33. There's also 12 piantas floating above the water, which are mostly offset by the cost of 10 per attempt. The result in that case is a maximum profit per round of boat game of 35 piantas, with the game itself taking 43.4 seconds. However, there's also the small countdown before starting, and the menuing after, which seem to add about 5 seconds, bringing the time consumed to 48.4 seconds per attempt with perfect play. This results in an approximate pace of 43.4 piantas per minute. The Tube minigame is a bit faster, with the best possible time being somewhere around 40 seconds (record from base TTYD was slightly over, and in my testing that seems like the limit here). From my testing it seems like such a time would give 27 piantas, though it might give 28. Adding in the piantas scattered across the ground (20 total), and removing the 10 coin entry fee gives a final profit per run of 37-38. Then adding the menuing time to the attempt time gives about 45 seconds per attempt. Converting that to piantas per minute gives a final value of 49.3-50.7, which I suspect is closer to 49. The best time I'm aware of for the Paper minigame is 29.5, though it's possible that good fan RNG could shave off a substantial amount more time. This would give a time bonus of 18 piantas, which combined with the 15 piantas you pick up, the 10 you get for coming in 1st, and the 10 you pay to play, for a potential total profit of 33 piantas per run. Converting to piantas per minute (adjusting the time per paper game attempt to 34.5) gives a final rate of around 57 piantas per minute. The Plane minigame actually has 2 different lenses it can be looked at through. Starting with max distance, the highest distance anyone has achieved to my knowledge is slightly over 700. This at base gives 50 piantas in profit (60 for distance - 10 for entering), and takes 30 seconds (without menuing). Assuming that you are somehow able to also get every pianta coin suspended in the air (for a +12) despite the fact that the run I saw only barely broke 700 and could only grab 1 of them, then that gives the potential for up to +62 piantas per 35 seconds, or 106.3 piantas per minute. Alternatively you could go for the 2x tile at around 550, get all the midair pianta coins, and end up with a total of (20 from distance + 12 suspended) * 2 point bonus - 10 entry = 54 coins in profit. This could also plausibly finish about 5 seconds faster (so 30 seconds with menuing) than getting max distance due to the less strict height management. This overall results in a pace of around 108 piantas per minute, almost certainly faster than getting max distance, and much faster than any other minigame. Slots are simple. From manual timing each attempt at slots is about 12 seconds, and with perfect play you go +46 each time (+50 from star, -4 for playing). This gives a speed of 230 piantas per minute. For further context, even if you only succeed at slots 51.2% of the time, and everything that isn't a star exactly is a failure, you will still build piantas at a faster rate than 108 per minute. The plane game more or less requires perfection every attempt to achieve 108 per minute.

These slots here are much easier than the ones in the original. I can consistently get a jackpot on every one without much trouble, getting the 777 in the original is still so hard for me, I only ever got it twice lol.

if you were struggling like i was, i find it’s a LOT easier to put the switch in handheld mode and spin that way. the switch’s screen is significantly smaller than most TV’s nowadays which requires a lot less movement and focus from your eyes to follow the patterns

I just grinded for coins in the pit of 100 trials and traded them in for the pianta coins. I pretty quickly had enough for the Money Money badge. After that, money was no problem, in coins, or piantas.

I think the money rewards from battles is more generous in the remake, so I didn’t think these slot machines were necessary.

There's a similar tactic I used to get lots of Bingos during battle too. The TTYD remake makes Bingos easier to get by slowing the pictures down to approximately the same speed as the easy matching game, and it helped me win the Shadow Queen boss battle a lot.

For my own notes, I experimented for a couple hours and wanted to add extra notes along with what the video demonstrates. 1. For the top row, wait until 2 piantas surrounding a pow block pass, and press A on either of the next piantas that pass. This is a repeating cycle. 2. For the middle row, as the video states, look to the left and press A as soon as you see a mushroom. I’ve tried this and it works…. Not 100% of the time, but usually it does. Also, this works on any mushroom (I think). The game basically just gives this one to you. 3. For the bottom row, it’s exactly as the video states. However, if you are struggling, just look for 3 piantas that are very close together, and when another passes that shows a bit later than the rest, press A. Hopefully this helped a little bit, but I wish you all good luck!

Thank you this is very helpful, do you have any tips/tricks for the paper plane game? I keep getting between 470-490 and the +5 piantas are always so tantalizing close on the other side of the 500 mark and I know just beyond that is a 2x tile I’ve seen in videos.

I found a more consistent setup for the first slot. All you have to do is watch for a flower following a star. Then count 2 more stars so you're at 3. Then the next time you see a flower arriving on the right press the button and you should get a star on the first slot. The don pianta's face thing seemed too inconsistent for me.

I just buy them 😅 already spent more than 30k coins. Pit of 100 trials with 7 money money gives around 2-3000 each run from 50 and down. And there is an entity cap of 99 things spawning from enemies, can be any combination of hearts, flowers, coins, items, and badges.

It gets easier when you add a rhythm to it. For example, there’s four Dons on the last panel. The fourth one has a delay compared to the other three. The fourth one has the star right after it. It helps me to count each Don to the beat of La Cucaracha minus the La part. (Cu-ca-ra… CHA!) Press A on CHA.

i wanted to look at the paper game to see its payout i find this. and it is super easy once you get used to it, i did it twice in like 2 minutes.

The plane game is the better system I can net 27 piantas with a 17 profit by simply playing repeatedly I earned well over 600 piantas in a hour and earned enough power rush badges to deal 35 damage per attack
