Hi Dan, thank you. I’m happy you like them. Yes, keep going out and practice. It takes time and repetition to get it right. But of course you’d be better off at a place with less waves. I you can get the board just a little out of the water a bit and then put the board down you are in control. Repeat and go further distances every time. An easier way to learn. Keep it my up and let me know how you’re progressing.

@wingfoil_mallorca
@wingfoil_mallorca 3 года назад
Hi Roger, don’t worry. This phenomenon is very common in the beginning. When the foil engage it is in an upward angle. And it keeps going like that, it stalls and falls down. The trick is to level the foil as soon as you feel it coming up by moving your weight forward directly. Also make sure you keep the speed up either by keeping the same course or do some pumping of the wing or going a bit downwind to get more wind in the wing. When you get the foil levelled you need to immediately turn upwind to avoid going to fast downwind. Keep practising this technique and you will overcome the stall and will be flying. Let me know how you proceed! Good luck and have fun!

Looks like you are crafting a very insightful step by step tutorial that some of us can already refer to as the ABC of Wing Foiling. You videos are doing a great job at infusing knowledge and confidence and your tips have already helped me to answer some of the questions I could not find answers for elsewhere. Well done! I also think that as the number of participants increase, the need to learn the right way will not only bring people to try but will hook them to keep at practicing this fantastic sport. Possible Ideas of topics that could also be covered: Is wing-foiling yet connected to a federation? If so, can someone take a license and subscribe to an insurance, specifically an accident liability insurance for the practice of the sport, in Spain and elsewhere in Europe. Doe one need to join an existing sailing club? As Kite-surfers, windsurfers and wing-surfers all share the same body of water, one would also feel more at ease if the navigation rules and order of priority, applied to our non-motorized-non-displacement, recreational sailing crafts, could be identified or included and posted so as to avoid misunderstanding and possible dangerous close quarters or collisions.

Your videos are great for me since you present everything so well. Just started the process of learning to fly the wing on an old Mistral Windsurfer. Although I have many years windsurfing and kiting I never used the hydrofoil. I’m in good shape but still 78 years old so it may take me a little longer to figure Wing foiling out. I’m trying to be patient in my board and front wing selection ( I have the Armstrong but only a 1200 sq2 wing). I’ve looked at the Starboards but can’t figure out what length and volume to purchase or what Armstrong wing to purchase. Any suggestions.

Hey Vincent, thank you for watching! My 2 cents is that it sounds like you are on a big (heavy?) board and a small foil. That is not a good combination if you want to learn wing foil, I am afraid. Hi Otto, you have knowledge on water but as don’t know if you have any knowledge of wind sports, then you are like I was. Starting from a low level. Go for a board that is 20-40L above your weight. A foil 200”-2400cm2 with a 65 cm mast. A 5m2 wing if your place of riding is 12 knots and up. A 6 m2 wing if it often is slow winds. The idea is the bigger material you ride with, the easier it will be to get started and the faster you will be up on foil. You stay with that material as long as you like. One day you will feel like you could have something smaller and then next step comes in to progress to smaller and lighter gear. This will be fine when you have got your skills learnt on the bigger gear. You have a lot of fun ahead of you. Where will you be riding?

Hi Nil, I’m happy to hear that. My journey to learn wasn’t easy but I also had some help in the way to choose the right gear and how to wing foil. I think it is important to hear and learn the little things that connect the whole wing foil experience. Like steer the board with your hips and legs, what size board is best depending on your level, how to pump the wing and so on. If you are learning. Make sure you go out in 12 knots or more. It is so much easier to learn when the wind i good. Then it is just hard work to get up in foil. But in 15-16 knots you i many cases (depending on gear) can just put your wing up and the wind will pull your speed up and eventually up on foil. When you are up on foil the first time you will be hooked! Good luck and stay safe! 😉

I have been watching this sport since it's inception, waiting for it to mature. Just like windsurfing it was so awkward at first. Now it would appear to be a more refined technology and as an intro I have been efoiling. What is your opinion on this approach?

@wingfoil_mallorca Год назад
Hi, nice. It’s about time you got into the sport now. E-foiling is one way, however it is very different when you have the wing in the wind as motor. Then you will have a new challenge. Its great that you can ride the foil. That will be an advantage learning to wing foil when you can control the wing. There is so much fun in this sport. So, time for next step soon, or?

I've got about 8 sessions on the water in the Gorge. I'm 77kg and have a 112 Reedin board I bought used. It came with a 1240 front wing which I have learned pretty fast, is way too small. I've got their biggest . . . an 1880 on order. Can't wait to see the difference! In the meantime, I'm having a hell of time getting up on my weak side. I wondered today if one foot strap in the front might help? Almost feels like I'm wasting my time and should wait for the bigger front wing. Any advice would be appreciated!
@wingfoil_mallorca
@wingfoil_mallorca Год назад
Hi, I hear you. A too small front wing is making it harder than necessary. Foot straps are a possibility. In general I’d advise against learning with them. This because it is more complicated to find the right balance where to put the foot straps to have the right front foot pressure/lift from the foil. Without you are always free to move your feet to get the right balance. But we are all different, give it a try and see how you feel. Just be cautious to pull you feet out when you fall. Move the mast back ir forward until it feels right regarding front foot pressure. Let me know how it goes! Cheers/ Fredric

Great video! I also have an E-Type 1700 & 1300 and I‘d be interested to know if you are using a Wave 270 or 370 as back wing. With the Razr 250 the setup feels very loose, compared to my previous Fanatic 2000 & 1500 HA, which did have a much longer fuselage.

Yes, you are correct. Did a mix of putting the stab that usually goes with the Ocean 2400 with the 1700. However I have now moved over to the 1700 and Razor 250 completely. A bit shaky in the beginning. Took me about two weeks or 12 sessions to get back to the level I was with the bigger wing and stab. I also changed board and mast. But more of this in my next video. It’s a waistband where I have the leash from the board attached at the back. And at the front I have the wing leash attached. Hi Frederick, thank you for the very detailed video. Extremely helpful. QUESTION : seems like you wear Waist Leash for both the Wing and Board? Do they actually sell the leashes as Waist Leashes? Or do you tie the leashes that come with the boards and Wings...to this Waist belt which you get separately?

@@wingfoil_mallorca I'm very much a beginner so this is a beginner's perspective...if both leashes are attached to one belt and you have to release the belt to 'ditch' either wing or board in an emergency you have, in reality, ditched both and you are left swimming with neither board or wing as support. I like the leash to belt idea and have my board leash to a belt and may convert my wing leash to a belt but I think I'm going to have them on separate belts.

@wingfoil_mallorca 3 года назад
@@fastusbombastus2085 Don’t see the sea as cold only! 😉 Actually the sea is great. You need a couple of good wetsuits of different thickness. Gloves, boots and hood for winter. The swell of the ocean is your friend! Windy days will be your go to days in the future and the sea is your new mistress! 🔥🔥🔥 If you are a beginner you can make your start easy or you can make your start to wingfoil hard. If you start with a bigger board you will fly quickly. But after a couple of months you will want a smaller board. If you start with a smaller board, you will struggle to keep balance, to fly and you would need to be very stubborn and patient as it will take time to get it right on a small board. A bigger board would be for you a 135-140l board. 6,5-7,2”. A small board 5,8-6”. I recommend starting on the larger board because you will have more fun directly. As far as the foil, go for a 2400-2500cm2 front wing as this will help you fly much faster. The analogy of small and big boards are the same as with the boards. I learned on a Starboard foil 2400cm and a 7,2” board ( I am only 73kg) and I was flying within a few sessions. Regarding the wing, depending the weather conditions. If you aim to go out in no less than 14-15 knots in the beginning you probably will be fine with a 6m wing. If tou go out in less, a bigger and in winds above 20knots a smaller. Hope these advices help you choose gear. Wing foiling is amazingly fun and addictive. Depending where you live in the Uk? You have generally good conditions with wind. Exiting days coming! 👏👏👏👍😉🤙🥳🤩
