How to wire a 4 way joystick using 12v relays for snowblower chute actuators on a JD garden tractor

How I wired a 4 way joystick to operate the horizontal and vertical motion of my John Deere snowblower chute using Princess Auto 12v motors.
Note: It's been brought to my attention the screen shot of the relays are the 24 volt model. I actually ordered the identical relays but the 12v version. Not sure if the 24v model will work but if you are running off a 12v battery system probably best to stay with the 12v reversing relays.

If you ever get a chance, please get drywall on the walls in this place. The exposed vapor barrier will burn and drip like nobody’s business, and it sometimes catches on fire from something as innocuous as grinder sparks. If you’re ever inside and there’s a fire, even a tiny one, with the stuff exposed - just run. Don’t try to save anything.

This is the only guidance similar to this on RU-vid, thanks a ton. I’m trying to put a joystick on a snowplow that has no controller. I don’t need the lighting tied in. Just the plow up/ down, Left/ right and that’s it. Your vid, I think, has me headed in the right direction. 👍🙏👋

Excellent video, just what I needed, I had ordered the same Joystick, along with a 4" actuator for the up/down deflector and 60 rpm motor for the left/right chute for my Wheel Horse H520 with 44" 2 stage blower. Right away I went on RU-vid and found your video. Then I ordered 2 relays. I just finished up the wiring which was as you said "Very Easy" The relays are a must in order to make this application as you said earlier. I have about $120 total for all the components to make this Snow Blowing easier. Thanks for the video!

Thanks, just what I was looking for, but still trying to make sense for the need of these relay. I should received my Joystick tomorrow, can't wait to give it a try.

I thought the same thing until I realized the joystick I purchased wasn't actually a reverse polarity switch. Needed to buy the reversing relays for it to work properly. I took a chance on the relays because I already drilled the big hole in the tractor and was trying to do some damage control. We had a good dumping of snow yesterday, so I was able to test it out and happy to report its performance exceeded expectations. Good luck with your project.

@@TheAV8T0R Received the reverse current relay yesterday. and made a simple working model as you did prior making the final assembly. Unfortunately it does not work, I think the relay need to be a 12 volts rather being a 24 volts. the 12 volts would require less voltage to close the relay. When try to bypass the switch and touching either the green or the blue wire to the black wire together I can hear the relay clicking but no current flowing to the motor. It is possible that the Reverse Current Relay is defective? How can I send you a picture of the working model?

@@mtakwax The relays I ordered from Amazon were indeed 12 volt. If the relays are clicking that usually means they are making contact and should function. If you ordered 24v relays I would return them for the 12v and start fresh - could be defective or could be the voltage - either way you have yourself covered. Good luck.

@@TheAV8T0Rbut the ones you show on the tv are marked 24v .. and it works? I am debating buying and trying the 24v ones because i cant seem to find the 12v ones on amazon

You’re right. I mentioned that in the comments. I’m pretty sure can understand the 24v switch on a 12v system. Not sure if it would work the other way around tho.

LOL. Might be some truth in that! However, I needed a powder machine with a wide long track and skis to access a remote location. Bear Cat fit the bill. Bought it new in 2014 but after buying a new Argo don't get out on much anymore.
