Now that was a great instruction method. I wish others did this. I have done 7 and 13 pin connectors for trailers and caravans. With and without fog lights. You made it look easy. It is, but so many make a big thing out of it, so we get quite a lot of work. To be fair, this was the best video I have seen

Excellent teaching video. Thank you for your really brilliant methodical approach with ample explanation of each step. If you ever need to solder any connections on a car without a soldering iron you can always use a diesel glow plug element wired to the car's battery (assuming you have a glow plug to hand). Be sure to hold the glow plug element firmly with insulated vice grips as a handle to avoid a visit to your nearest A&E😕

Excellent video mate covers everything you need to know I've just done similar instillation on my xc70,only point I may add on your video 15mins at Battery connection be carful not to come into to contact with chassis earth with spanner socket wrench etc as Earth is connected and could spark out a short......not to worry we all make mistakes that's why there rubbers on end of pencils..... Great explanation though.

Sorry for a dumb question, but how does the box know when the engine is running? As I understood, the two red wires are coming straight from battery, the brown is just ground. If it is a relay, it also needs an on signal so it knows it should switch the relays. But I do not see anything like that here so I am a bit confused. Thanks a lot.

Hi is it ok to pull fuse out when not towing. Will it damage the relay

The reversing light wire is on the grey plug (s) which connects to the by pass relay mate. Also you need to check if your car is fitted with a smart alternator if it isn't you can fit a split charge relay, if it is you need a smart split charge relay. I was supplied the wrong one and not long after had to replace a very expensive Jaguar smart alternator!!!

Where do you connect the earth from the twin core you have run from the battery?

just a quickie ,when you put the output patch leads/fuse cables in you put a male (exposed plug) crimp on which you explained would prevent incorrect connection ,firstly it would not be any great shakes to get these two the wrong way as they are both +ve but more importantly if the male one became disconnected it would be easy to become shorted against body work metal ,always use females to carry current for added safety

I've got two cables, both have 7 wires coming out and each are same colour wires, but one set is thicker wiring. They supposedly all go into one 13-pin Euro socket. Is that right, and why is one set thicker than the other please?

Thanks for this, learnt a few tips. I am having trouble installing my dedicated wiring kit for my 8gen honda civic. It has a canbus box with it and also a wire to go into the fuse box under the steering wheel. Its a 7 pin trailer connection. I thought I didnt need this unless it was to power stuff in a caravan like fridges etc. But I am having issues. My indicators dont work, the relay module clicks fast when i have my bike rack connected. I dont know what to try next, unless it is this extra power on the fuse box? Not sure which fuse to plug it into. Thanks, I hope you can help as I have no idea what to try next. Making sure my cars earth is fine is the next thing to try, but earth from the wiring kit is fine, attached to the purpose made point in the boot.

Nice video. But when I look up a 12s diagram it always seems to say that the blue wire it switched. Green is permanent live.

hi pal, I'm wondering what rated cable did you use from the battery to the relay box? does it need to be bigger for charging the leisure battery?

Brill video, but one thing I’m unsure about. If the relay is only wired to the battery, how does it disconnect when the ignition is turn off, or is the live wired to the ignition in some way?

Hi Mate. Fitting towbar at the moment, vehicle has canbus. Is it therefore better to use scotchlocks maybe , my thinking being that would be less disruptive to the canbus and ecu than stripping the vehicle cables and soldering to them. Any opinion on the rights and wrongs?

Bodgit and leggit is about right when using vice grips as a electrical terminal crimping tool.

great video .i got a new car last year and the dealer made a mess of it frist thay put 7 pin plug. when i wanted a 13 pin plug . as i am toeing a caravan i wanted the elec,s for fridge and battery .i have only 1 power 12 volts and stayes on ..i have a dacia duster 2017 .any help would be greatful

Hi, I am wiring up a 2008 Kuga with a 13pin euro socket so will be using a TEC3M split charge relay for the caravan electrics and a bypass relay pack for the lighting. However I am a bit confused about the 12v supply, how many +12v cables will i need to bring through from the battery to the luggage compartment and what rating will they need to be?

hi dear how are you. as I text you earlier believe me this afternoon while I was coming back home when I stopped at the traffic lights the clutch pedal went all the way to the floor on my audi a3 1.9tdi 55 reg and it absolutely failed to engage in gears. I had to call the recovery to get the car parked outside my house. later on in the evening when I went out to check the car for any leaks I pulled the clutch pedal up and it came all the way up as usual and started engaging in gears. I couldn't believe it. I couldn't see any leaks. I am going absolutely blonkers just to think what the he'll is wrong. according to my limited knowledge it's either the slave cylinder or the internal gearbox cylinder is faulty. the gearbox is wet from underneath which may be the leaking internal slave cylinder. please provide me with advice and I will be mostly grateful to you.

I am so glad I don't have to rely on people like you and am capable of fitting and wiring my own vehicles and trailers. If I had trained you I would use those vice grips on your nuts. That's not the way to terminate wiring. And Scotchloks should be confined to the bin where they belong.
