My mounting bracket doesn't seem to have a green wire, just the down rod thing and the bare copper wire . Is this ok? Ill just sit here quietly in the fetal position till someone helps me
funny and informative, hope you have other vids for me to both learn and laugh. many thx! to those that didn't like this vid…..remove ceiling fan from your 4th point of contact.
I have the same "single" wire coming out of my ceiling, so if I strip the casing, I should find the individual white, black individual wires within it?
+aka gecko If it's standard Romex, yes. It's usually a thick cable that's almost rectangular in cross section. If you see that there should be three wires in that cable that you can split the cable jacket out of and release.
Thank you for a very helpful video. There is something about all fan installation videos and the instruction manuals of Hampton Bay and Hunter fans that totally mystifies me, so perhaps you can explain it to a novice like me. Why would anyone want to attach the fan blades and the light kit while standing on a ladder and reaching over your head at an awkward angle ? My skinny little arms are killing me after attempting this ! LOL. Wouldn't it make more sense to do all the assembly while sitting safely on the floor and not having to reach over your head ? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I just don't get it.
+Dmitri Kazantsev This wire set up services 2 switches. That wire has 4 strands. Red, black, white and copper/ground. The white is neutral. Both the black and red are hot coming from the two switches. Hope that makes sense.
This was great, except maybe not telling us to connect the white neutrals. My problem is my HB fan has a remote and the wiring diagrams (one in the book and one on the remote) contradict the written wiring steps (which also contradict each other!). I need you to wire one of those for me.
+Danielle Guy If the wires are live you can get electrocuted on any kind of ladder. All you have to do is touch the live and ground wire at the same time like we demonstrated. People have different ways of doing things and if the fan style allows you may be able to put the blades on first before hanging the motor. We chose not to do it that way. Thanks for the input!
