How to work on a steep roof - Guardian Roof Jack Install 

I use these as a painter . We spend a lot of time in one place so I put down a drop or sometimes cardboard and staple it down (lightweight) so it wont slide That way I don't wear out the shingles where my feet dig in . I've seen MANY roofs with worn out patches from trades being on them for extended periods

I find it amazing how many roofers use a couch cushion on roofs no, I was doing that 30 years ago before 90% of roofers. Very old school. In my day very few new that trick.

We use 2x10 planks for our roof jacks. Good tip on the nails vs screws, I agree I would feel much safer with a spike nail. Great explanation as always

I'm guessing you already know this, but I'm always skeptical of splitting the wood when I'm nailing the jacks themselves into the board, and an old framer buddy taught me to gently tap the sharp end of the nail with a hammer before nailing it in and that will dull it enough to help better prevent potential splitting.

Just wanted to say your videos and reply to my past comment has helped me tremendously in last couple months. Definitely has encouraged me to do the research I needed to find the right roofing contractor and to get my insurance to finally cover my whole roof! They paid for one side and after some back and forth and a brittle test preformed by my contractor, I was able to get them to finally give in and cover the other side they initially wanted to repair. I will definitely be watching and recommending your channel to all my friends, family, and co-workers ( I am a licensed painting contractor)! If you had time and happen to read this I had one last quick question..... I am finally scheduled to have roof replaced/put on here in East Tennessee next Tuesday and Wednesday. They may get on Tuesday but Wednesday will most likely be day they put shingles on, and it shows temperature is going to be sunny and 63 on Tues. and 65 on Wednesday and mid 40's at night both those nights. I feel comfortable with those temperatures, but forecast shows Thursday some rain moving in early and temp is going to drop to 53 for high and 34 for low. ( Fingers crossed that changes) Question: As long as roof is finished Wednesday, would it worry you as a roofing contractor if it rained day after you put roof on and/ or Temperature dropped like that the next day after? It's just for a day and Temps going back to mid 50's and sunny all through the weekend. I just not sure if there is a "cure time " after roof is completed, and if so would rain or a dip in temp like that affect it? Again, I appreciate any advice in advance. After watching several of your videos I have come to really value your opinion. Thanks a bunch!

Just by engineered construction screws with the specs on the box and you'll have both shear strength and the bend flexibility

I had a guy try to fix the leak around my chimney. He used roof Jack's and missed the trusses on every one.

Can’t imagine putting nail holes in a new roof. I’m sure the patches will eventually leak. There are better ways.

This was useful. Doing my first shingled roof (it's a DIY project), and it's a conical roof. Had the Guardian brackets on the roof before the shingles (while I did the decking), and your video answered some additional questions I had. AND - I take full responsibility for my own safety. Thanks. Hey - when I'm done, and I remove the brackets, do I daub some roofing tar over the nail/screw holes?

1.5 nail is enough never had a problem

Watch out for knots in the middle of the 2x6 they are weak points

And that's the reason I don't do roofing for a living!!!!!!

Have you ever used them just nailed in anywhere, not finding the truss? I know you wouldn't advise or recommend that, but I wonder if that's ever been the way you've done it before?
