Interesting shooting technique you got there! If i am seeing correct, you are shooting through an eyecup on your live view screen? Your shots are truely beautiful!
You are correct! I use it to check exposure and see what the photo will look like before I take anything. Live view shows the aperture your shooting at unlike the viewfinder. Also I will manual focus with it sometimes
