How to wrap text around picture in Photoshop 

Great technique for wrapping text! There’s another way you could do this without having to draw the path by hand around the contour of the object. I’ll try to explain it as best as I can. 1. Use select subject or the object selection tool to select the object you want your text to wrap around. 2. Expand your selection outwards. How far you expand it will depend on how big of a margin you want between your text and the object it wraps around. 3. Go to the paths panel and click on the “make work path from selection” button to convert your selection to a path. 4. Create a rectangle path for the text to go into as shown in the video. The rectangle should overlap the first path you created. 5. Using the path selection tool, select the path that contours your object. In the options bar, go to the path arrangement options and bring the path to the front. Then go to the path operations options and choose subtract front shape followed by merge shape components. 6. Fill your new custom path/shape with text. Although it might sound complicated, this technique is fast and produces a nice consistent margin between your text and the object it wraps around.

As a power user tip, you can do a Select Subject, turn it into a path, subtract it from the rectangle and voila, you have a nice text wrap around an image.

I've saved this so I can come back later next time I want to use a path. It's always been confusing to me, but your tutorial simplifies how they work and how to modify them. Thanks!

Thanks for these tips! I've always drawn the path with the pen tool when I wanted to wrap text around a shape. I never even thought of using the shape tool to do it. I can see where that will help me speed things up the next time I do this.

Just when you thought you knew everything...

I can't cope with all that clicking for the pen tool. I paint a splodge on a new layer in quick mask mode then change the selection to a path.

Triple clicks are rare ... but quadruple clicks? OMG!
