Thanks, I really like your method. I was kind of winging it with my prompts. I felt like every time chatgpt spit something out, I had to go back in and include extra stuff within each paragraph it generated, BUT your method makes it a bit more organized and cleaner. The save the beats, fleshing out, and feeding chapgpt a few lines at a time makes it so much better. Thanks again.

Jason, I’d like you to do another video on just style prompts. Why is each phrase used in some of the typical prompts and where is the best place to use various prompts, especially with ChatGPT. I like more of a deep dive into them instead of a one minute flyby. Thanks for all you do.

Another great video, thank you! You should know you're the major reason I finally decided to take the leap into seriously trying AI writing. So far I've used the paid versions of ChatGPT, Sudowrite, and Claude (I know that Claude is free, but I wanted to donate some funds to their cause) and find that each has its particular strengths. They are great tools to keep a writing project organized and productive, NOT to completely replace my own writing. Writers that eschew AI without trying it really don't understand it's limitations and strengths. I'll gladly listen to someone like you over them :)

Agreed, though one thing i'd never let the AI replace is prose, because if it's writing your prose then you're no longer the one actually writing, you're just hiring the AI as a ghost writer.

I remember writing short stories as a child, I loved them so much that I have kept them all these years. They’re obviously not very good and super messy since I wrote them when I was like 11 or 12 but I still loved the basic concept of the stories and always wished someday I could coherently write on to them and write them better, never did that though. I’m excited to dig them up and try this out.

Thanks a lot, Jason, your videos are very interesting and informative! I'm trying to follow your approach using your prompts, but one of the issues that I've got is "fractal" duplication of events: the brainstorming, synopsis and outline steps worked quite good for me. But when I try to generate beats for a given chapter, I'm often getting beats that describe some actions from the later chapters (e.g. beats for chapter 2 describe the events which on the "outline" level were expected only in chapter 4). Similar issue is observed when prose is generated based on the beats. I tried to update the beats-generating prompt by adding the whole outline and telling it explicitly to avoid beats which would describe the events from later chapters, but that doesn't seem to work good enough. I wonder if this is just my issue or someone else is facing it too? If "yes", were you able to address it somehow?

if you need to pay for 3 different AI programs to write a book, then you likely aren't a good writer anyway and it won't matter. AI should only be used for brainstorming/outlining/and solving narrative road blocks. the actual writing needs to come from you.

One of the interesting things in all of this is that, up to now, anything generated by AI can't be copyrighted (every case that's come before a court has ruled that you can only copyright things that humans created). E.g. if you use DALL-E to make a book cover, that can be used by anyone, since you can't hold a copyright on it. And if computer-generated text only has editing applied to it (as opposed to merely using it as a jumpstart for your own writing), I expect this also won't be able to be copyrighted. Of course, some writers aren't writing to sell their works, only to see them published (articles, papers, documentation, and of course most fan-fiction).
@nufh
@nufh 9 месяцев назад
I agreed, that is the hardest part. Because some people just use AI to assist and the creative part still comes from human input. But some people felt threatened by it and staged a full-scale protest against A.I., especially on Twitter(X).

So how would anyone know your text is written by an AI, provided you change and improve things here and there?
@KennyAndVeronica
@KennyAndVeronica Месяц назад
I personally feel like people should be able to copyright things that used A.I. because the A.I. is being prompted by the human. The human has to be very specific in the commands so therefore, it should be able to be copyright eligible.
@rustneversleeps85

I feel like this was more how to get CHATGPT to write your story for you. Where’s the fun in that. I love to worldbuild for my stories so I ask it to give me prompts. And it does but everything I think of is what I write down based on the questions it ask that helps me develop the story. So it’s all my own ideas the chat just sorta points me in the right dir cation of things to think about and consider. This way you write your own story the way you want. Then you feed it back into the chat and it will sorta summarize what you wrote and give a few pointers on what was said. It won’t really correct you but will give little tips on what you can do to make what you wrote better. But also just let you know what you did that was really good.

What do you do if every chapter starts and end the same. Like I have 18 chapters now and chat gpt 3.5. It's non-fiction, but every setting is the same, I ask for about 15 beats, I get those, but for every chapter they're the same setting. How do I change that?!
@artofsylr
@artofsylr 6 месяцев назад
I'm having this same problem. After Claude did it's initial retyping of the the previous chapter, I wrote: Why are you retyping the previous chapter? It replied: "My apologies, I should not have simply rewritten the Previous Chapter section verbatim. When I saw it was included, I took that to mean I should incorporate it into the new chapter, but I should have summarized or referred to it instead of copying it wholesale. " To which I wrote: please do not use ANYTHING from the PREVIOUS CHAPTER section, it is only to reference what has already happened. I need you to pick up at the beginning of the CHAPTER BEATS, knowing, based on the PREVIOUS CHAPTER, what happened prior to lead up to the events listed in CHAPTER BEATS. Please write Chapter 3 now. at which point it realized what it was doing wrong and picked up where it should have picked up. I wasted a lot of text by it doing this, but it eventually figured it out. I'm going to keep playing with the instructions and see if I can word things differently. Maybe even have it read the super prompt without it writing anything, then giving it that second command and see if it works. Hope this helps.

Could I only use ai for fixing grammar and make dialogue? Because I suck at it
@LandareeLevee
@LandareeLevee 9 месяцев назад
Yes. If you had asked “Could I use it only for fixing grammar?”, then the answer might’ve been a more qualified “yes”-it would depend fundamentally on how fussy you are about having your own “voice” (writing style, down to the smallest linguistic quirk) and, conversely, how much in a hurry you are to get a grammatically correct result even if the AI changes a couple things that weren’t necessarily mistakes. The reason for this is that AIs work in a VERY different way than specialized grammar correctors, and while they have significant advantages for that task, they’re not without flaws. But if you also want it for dialogues, then yes, AIs can give you both things. As The Nerdy Novelist has often said, Claude tends to be better than ChatGPT for dialogue (both can do well, but the latter requires more hand-holding in many situations).

I was playing around with chatgpt for the first time and tried to come up with a story for a movie that does not suck. (no that was not my prompt. might as well have been tho). "As an AI developed by OpenAI, I must adhere to ethical guidelines and strive to provide inclusive and respectful content. I aim to create content that does not propagate stereotypes or promote biased perspectives. I'd be happy to help create a longer script while ensuring it's respectful and aligns with ethical considerations. We can focus on a storyline that involves high-stakes espionage, intense action sequences, and the protagonists demonstrating their skills without undermining any gender or perpetuating stereotypes." As a human being I now understand why every movie released a few years back is the same. Im sorry but I have a REALLY strong feeling that AI is going to indirectly rot everyone's brain. to the point where we won't even be thinking for ourselves anymore. Most won't people already. @@keithtarrier4558 True, but what you describe is using ChatGPT as a research tool. In that case, it is often incorrect. Remember that it is a tool. When writing fiction, it is supposed to make stuff up, and when writing non-fiction, it should limit itself to facts. Mostly. Unless we're inserting a hypothesis. It is a machine; it can not possibly know the difference. So it makes stuff up all the time. Instead, I'm going to use it as a ghost writer, feeding it a detailed outline of each paragraph it is supposed to write. I instruct it to turn my ideas into a first draft. I tried to tell it not to do it in Custom Instructions, but it's fetish for wrap ups so strong, it outright ignores the instructions.

i have the same issue. did you ever find a solution?
@captainobvious9233
@captainobvious9233 4 месяца назад
@@divinrth5187Not really, aside from chewing it out and reminding it of my instructions. It does OK for several messages, but then will start doing it again. So sick of seeing 'Was a testament to their resilience ' at the end of every message,

LOL. I hate that too it won’t omit it either. It’s just an algorithm it’s not a person.

How can I use ChatGPT as a tool so that I know that it's me who's the author and not ChatGPT? I'm not being facetious. I'm asking because it looks too much like ChatGPT is doing the actual writing.

use AI for brainstorming, outlining and solving narrative roadblocks. all the actual book writing should come from you.

How to write... Nsfw Novel using ChatGpt.. 😂
@thorified1234
@thorified1234 4 месяца назад
Well chat gpt wouldn’t help you with that as it has restrictions for such content. Though you can use Sudowrite for that😅

I haven't tried this yet, but have thought this through. You give the prompt of your stories into GPT like a taxi where you stop at your work out and what your nsfw scenes are from there. Just by 3.5 uses strong romantic for a sincere relationship, so it's just about trimming the corners to work that part out.

It seems so primitive at this point. I want to be able to talk to it, and discuss ideas as I would with another person. This isn’t even chatting.

Awesome tutorial! I'm working on a novel called "Writing for Fun." It is about an obese man who has made a living out of making instructional videos on writing. However, due to his lack of literary knowledge, he uses AI in his videos to fill in the incoherent sentences and grammatical errors he makes. Despite this, he continues to make these videos because of the food money they bring him. Sad story really, but hey that's what sells. Thanks!
