Follow this template to write the Research Proposal. On the undergrad, masters and doctoral levels, your goal is to convince someone that your research is valid, important and doable. Here's a step-by-step method for getting it done.

Excellent video! I gave a class to over 600 students on the dissertation module last month, and spoke about your videos. something they asked me for was to see real examples, and so I have now uploaded lots to my channel, where I give a commentary about the strengths and weaknesses while going through the proposal live on screen, I even gave a mark, my students appreciated getting their professor doing a demonstration like this
@@peakdavid I think your stuff is excellent, and you have been so consistent over many years, thats how you make a real difference to people. You must have helped many many students
Heartfelt gratitude for sharing your knowledge with such kindness and clarity. It's made a big difference in my learning! Feeling blessed to be a part of this.

That was all I needed to get started on my masters research proposal. Thank you so much Dr. Taylor. Hugs from Norway and good luck to everyone on your tasks ahead. ❤
Thank a lot for your precious lessons Dr Taylor, your guidance is very practical at the same time very consistent, well done. You get direct to the pointt thanks to your ability to separate things relevant from theretical acspect that are not relevant matters. From an not expert student like me. it is important to find someone who can give you proficent advise on how to do things without forgot to explain why those thinghs must prioritaised. Congratulation and thanks again Professor.
When doing a methodology, if we adopt a scheme or a questionnaires and methods in other studies, may I ask do we need to do a pilot study. If so, are there any differences between participants, time schedules to conduct a research on those participants in the pilot study and the real one? Thanks
In my nursing literature review there is a specific grid for organization. We are required to use it. And we have to choose a nursing theory/framework also. I guess there is some differences on this sort of thing for nursing/medical vs. non medical?
Yes, you are being asked to conduct a critical literature review in which you select, organize and review sources according to specific guidelines--in this case your grid and your theory.
Hi, Dr. David it was amazing I learned a lot. I have a question Question is my title of research in post-graduation should be linked to Ph.D. or not? I mean can I choose a title in Ph.D. that is not related or it is not a continuation of the research I have done in my Master's?
Hello professor, fascinating details. I do not know beyond the undergraduate level of study. I am learning new things from you. You are an amazing MENTOR!!! I love listening to your guidance,
Thanks, Prof, for the insightful lecture. Could you please tell us the difference in conceptual literature, theoretical literature and conceptual framework?
"Conceptual literature" is a literature review that focuses on concepts and their relationship. "Theoretical literature" is a literature review that focuses on theories and their relationships, their investigative support, and new hypotheses. A "conceptual framework" is basically the same as a theoretical framework except a conceptual framework uses two or more theories.
David, thank you for the lecture, it's another great video. When using literature for journal articles, how do you know when the source is too “old” in the frame of time, as in: "better not to use it if published 10 years ago" etc.?
Thanks for your question, Goran. There is no arbitrary number such as 10 years. Some articles are "seminal" in a field. Some are out of date almost as soon as they are published. As you gain a background in the literature of your field, it will be clear which articles has stood the test of time. Good luck!
The answer to that can be found by (1) asking your adviser; and (2) looking at the lit reviews from previous students in your degree program at your school.
Hi David, extremely thankful for the guidance you provided as regards research proposal. Could you please guide us about any available resources where we could some sample proposals and their PPTs, if possible.
Saadi--there are many examples available. Go to Google and search on "sample research proposals in business/social science/engineering . . . [whatever your field is]"
@@peakdavid thank you sir. I'm a PhD Scholar in Education, and my field of research is Textbook evaluation. Actually, I was looking for some repository of proposals.
@@peakdavid Sir, My Topic for the research study is "Exploring the Relative Efficacy of Story telling Techniques in Improving the Vocabulary of Secondary Level ESL Learners". How can I find a theory for this topic???
Thank you professor, this was certainly enlightening. Can you kindly notify us on when you will be addressing the Theoretical Framework. Secondly, I am researching an issue that is well documented in the Middle East. However there is no literature in South Africa. As an insider, I have extensive knowledge of the issue and elders to consult. How do I fill the gap without literature?
Here is my video on theoretical framework: ru-vid.comr1Wc2JNta98 To confirm there is no literature about South Africa on the topic, I would need to know the topic. The second question is that you would document the elders as primary research. Because this is research, any assertions you make based on your own knowledge and experience would also have to be documented as primary research.
@@peakdavid The topic is on the risk of divorce in consanguineous marriages and the impact divorce can have on their offspring. Three out of nine ethnic groups in South Africa still practice consanguinity. There is a resurgence of the practice among young people who are educated and well travelled. The lack of relevant literature has dampened the excitement in doing the study. Please help.
@@sigithebum The topic of consanguineous marriages in general is extensively covered in the literature. If there is a lack of studies on consanguineous marriages in South Africa, then this is a wonderful opportunity for you to create your own study and report on this topic from the South African perspective. Who is your thesis director?
@@peakdavid My thesis director is Dr Nompumelelo Radebe from the department of Anthropology at the University of South Africa. I have gone through tens of articles. They all cover topics that are irrelevant to my research. Other studies have touched on aspects of my research but only superficially. I am Motswana, and have a wealth of information regarding the subject. I do not know how many sources I should use. Still how do I critically analyse something that is not in the literature?
@@sigithebum There is a ton of research, just on Google, about this topic. I would suggest a chapter on the world history of this type of marriage. Then a chapter on this type of marriage in SA. Then you need to set up your research methodology and conduct your research in your country. If an article is about this type of marriage, then it is relevant. Do you not have an outline of your chapters: intro, lit review, etc.? You really need to plan out your chapters first.

Hi Dr David , I want to ask you bansh of questions about my proposal , I am a bit confused , I didn't begin writing it. How can I contact with you , or I drop my questions here
First of all this is my topic , Students difficulty in productive skills with reference to writing , my research is about undergraduate students 4th semester
@@adammousa6274 Thanks, Adam. Sounds like you are asking what inhibits these students' writing. I think your next step is to write a strong research question. You will also need to decide whether you will use a quantitative approach to data collection (e.g., counting the number of words produced) or a qualitative approach (e.g., questionnaires, interviews, grades given from teachers) or a mixed approach. Before doing anything else, I highly advise finishing your literature review and then a research proposal.
