For many days, I was stuck not writing a perfect story, was procrastinating - becoming a perfectionist n all. Thanks man u saved a lot of time

Glad that I could help. There are times when perfectionism is good, but when you're just starting out is not one of those times. Perfection paralysis is a danger to creation and makes it less fun. I've learned this from experience.

I read somewhere that the desire/need to outline a piece (speech,story,essay,etc) lines up with your Myers-Briggs Perceiving vs Judging. If your the P type, you tend not to use outlines and eventually just kind of fall into a structure. Maybe. Stephen King writes like this. IF you're the J-type, it's hard to create without an outline. Coming up with an outline is their form of creativity. Or so I hear. I'm more of a P. My wife is more of a J. She HAS to have a list before she can get moving on somewhere, whereas I can't lists and outlines. Anyway .. if you can't move forward without an outline, that's okay. Make your outline. Just make sure you're open to change as you go.

Hmm interesting thought. I'll have to read up on that. It fits though - I do kind of just fall into structures when I'm brainstorming, I attributed it to experience and knowing what pieces fit best together and which ones don't

I’m going to implement some of these into my speech writing. I’ll have to work on writing whole speeches again cause I abandoned the method when I found that memorizing word for word made me too rigid in my delivery. I remember three points now and talk about them in a fluid manner.
@publicspeakingmentor
@publicspeakingmentor 3 года назад
You definitely need to do what works for you. I do side more on the memorization side only because I tend to listen to my shorter speeches over and over; however, for my longer presentations I do as you do break it up into points and then talk about it.

You have a great sense of humour! I should try transcribing, it's better than my unintelligible handwriting

Appreciate the kind comment, Deepa. Transcribing has been a great help for me. I strongly suggest you give it a try to see if it works for you.

Damn, guess I should make a draft without the outline because I’ve been struggling besides I’ve been struggling to make it work since the outline is super important for the grade -v-,

Wow @Aaron - I'm so glad to know that I'm on the right path. Never do an outline.I just write away - ideas and stories that come into my head - I will just drop them down onto my draft. So maybe that is my outline -dump. And this outline-dump will just increase as the creativity flows. But drafting of speeches is really a skill and the more you do, the better it gets. And to have speeches in a presentation mode - I always think about the audience and finally fine-tune it. A question - do you learn your speech by hard or you have it in bullet point form? Many thanks for this video - very nice. Would love more of your humour in your videos cos when they are there, they are funny and always make me laugh. You are good at putting jokes at the right spots of your presentation - the 'extra virgin' one here is a good one!! :-) Well done!

Thank you, Chengi! I like what you said about drafting a speech as a skill. It definitely is and you do get better the more you do it. To your question of do I memorize my speeches by heart, it depends how long the speech is. For the 7 minute speeches I suppose you can say I memorize it by heart because I listen to my audio recordings of the script so much that it becomes ingrained in me. However, for my longer keynotes I have bullet points, but I've also internalized most of the stories and points that I use. I say internalized over memorized because I don't stick to a script. Appreciate the comments on my humor I am glad for the feedback, because unlike a live audience, I can't see or hear laughter.

Great stuff. Try your best to contribute a story idea to your file regularly. Even if you don't think it will be a good story. If you create the habit, then eventually you will have multiple good stories.

Hi Aaron, I am currently brainstorming for a speech competition in which the theme is "you only live once". I have some ideas on my mind but could you share what would be your take on it?
@happinesssmile4735
@happinesssmile4735 3 года назад
My interpretation is that though we might think YOLO may be applicable to everybody, it has a different meaning to the poor and the rich, as the poor and underprivileged do not have the asset to dream. So what we, privileged people must do is accept them and dissolve the barrier between us
@publicspeakingmentor
@publicspeakingmentor 3 года назад
There are 2 things that immediately come to mind when I think about YOLO. One is that there are so many things to experience in the world that we should always look to try new things and not stay stuck in a box. The other thing that comes to mind is that we only get one life to share with the ones we love, so make sure to appreciate what you have and who you have in your life.
