Understand what kind of personal statement I want to write (what the schools are looking for) 6. What sparked interest in academic subject 7. Extracurricular activity experiences 8. Link everything (SHOW DO NOT TELL) 9. Show how I actively engage in subject 10. Link subjects in school 11. Big myself up - back it up 12. Do not lie - be authentic 13. Refresh my mind - know what you write really well 14. Trust my academic ability - do not doubt or second-guess, write with confidence * Let other people read it - accept criticism * Many drafts * Enjoy it
