"He wanted to kill a kid, to save his own skin... I had a problem with that..." -Riddick I don't know much about Riddick's character aside from what's portrayed in the movies, but I do know that he doesn't "go around saving kids" like a hero would, but if he's doing his thing and a kid is in danger and he, by acting, can prevent them from getting hurt, he doesn't hesitate. That's what I like about his character. He never involves himself in conflicts because they're "not his fight" until a kid that shouldn't be involved on principle becomes involved.
I love these videos so much! They are immensely helpful with my writing. I think the main character in my current WIP is a pragmatic anti-hero. She doesn't go out of her way to cause harm, but her primary motivation in book 1 is definitely (and understandably) lethal revenge.

My favourite is Levi Ackerman from Attack on Titan. He does extremely morally questionable things, such as willing to do harm to innocent bystanders, but all for the sake of humanity's interest, which was on the brink of extinction.
I'm writing a novel with two anti-hero protagonists (male friends 25-30), and seriously love them a lot. They've got everything they need within them combined to be the perfect protagonists, but the trouble is doubled within them being two totally different personalities. So basically they need to stick together to deal with the troubles surrounding them and solving the main problem, but then there's a girl come along to kind of brake their friendship apart endangers the quest they're dealing with. She's with them, and she's not a villain in any way, but a necessary party-member in the group. I find it to be a really good base to create an interesting and difficult low-concept scenario in a really-really high concept plot. ^.^
I’ve always considered The Punisher to be my all-time favorite anti-hero. In fact the novel I created some time ago actually embodies very similar qualities as said character. Honestly I’ve never subscribed to the idea of the classic hero and villain tropes. One, because it’s archaic and holds very little realism in the real world especially today. And two, their motives are VERY one-dimensional. As for my OC character, I did make him good looking like physically fit and all that. However his motives of killing murderers are rooted in trauma and loss of a loved one. And such, he feels anyone who murders an innocent human being deserves death, no questions asked. It might seem barbaric but you can’t blame him for thinking that way especially since the outside world (beyond his hometown) he’s in has very little law and order. And to him, this gives him the excuse to do what he does best. Edit: You may argue that this OC sounds like a copy-and-paste from the Punisher. Yes and no. Although there are similarities, there are just as many differences. 1. The Punisher was a Marine, the Road Ranger (my character) was an Army Ranger. And there are MANY differences between the Marines and the Army Rangers while they’re similar in some ways, they’re very different with one another. And I encourage people to do the research to see the differences. 2. The Punisher had a family (wife and children), the Road Ranger had a mother and stepfather. If anything, the Road Ranger is actually very young. 24 years old to be exact. Though the Punisher’s age isn’t specified, we can assume according to the comics that he is in his early to mid 30s since his children (even at the time they were murdered) were already past toddler age. 3. Finally, the Road Ranger was betrayed. The Punisher had his family murdered by gangsters just because Frank Castle (the Punisher) and his family were in the wrong place at the wrong time. And as a result, they were mercilessly murdered just for being witnesses of a crime. And as such, it’s not exactly betrayal if the murder wasn’t ordered by someone Frank Caste knew personally. Matt Santos (the Road Ranger) was betrayed by his stepfather as he hired thugs to murder his (Matt Santos) mother after he refused to settle with a divorce that could have cost him quite a fortune. And as you can guess, yes the Ranger did have his revenge by killing his traitorous stepfather. But as a result for what could be conceived as murder by the law, including multiple counts of murders along the way by killing thugs that stood in his way, he fled from his country by crossing the Calivadan border into the Texas Commonwealth. A place that he actually knows about possibly from one his deployments during his military service.
@@zinciblezfide8827 Thanks! Just a bit of an update regarding this comment: I actually rewrote this character’s story because the original book made me wanna vomit. But apart from that, the rewrite/remake has most of the original plot preserved with some differences: Original story’s title: Road Ranger’s Rise Remake story’s title: The Road Ranger Original story’s opening: Matt takes part in a big battle which he is the only survivor. Which has almost nothing to do with the main story. Remake story’s opening: Matt is in his car pondering over what brought him to this point in his life. His desire for justice, his fear of either dying or getting arrested, and his misbelief of his mother being a totally innocent woman and not deserving of her death. Matt loads a pistol and exits his car to kill some gangsters and is eventually pinned down by machine gun fire. The next chapter actually goes back several weeks before that event. If you’re interested, I’m more than happy to trade emails with you so that I can attach your email to my Google Doc for you to read.
I already knew What Anti-Hero was long before i found my favourite anti-hero, Red Hood Im currently writing a book with him and he is unscrupulois anti-hero of course, one of Most tragic Heros turned bad turned anti-heros in all of comics
Videos like this are so helpful you have no idea. I've had a story I've been working on for almost a year and a half and wanted to add some antihero elements to it to make some of my protagonists less like a fantasy hero, and more relatable in their motives. In my opinion, antiheroes are more realistic because although people will do what is right, those same people don't always do the right thing or do things for the sake of others, most people put in extraordinary circumstances would probably be more self serving or self preserving than maybe a greek type hero who just does heroic tasks for no pay or recognition, just to save someone or to bring justice to a deprived people. This video gave me a lot of ideas on how to make an antihero more complex than just being morally ambiguous.
My anti-hero, Aggie Piper, has a high sense of morality ( due her upbringing that she accepts) but acts immorally anyway by allowing her natural warrior tendencies to come out when needed. She struggles within to live with both aspects of herself and finds a balance at the end.
The guy that comes to my mind as an anti-hero is Clint Eastwood in "Unforgiven". He has repudiated his gun slinging days, but he can't resist the chance to make a big score by killing a couple of young men who cut up the face of a prostitute. It has been a long time since he has fired a gun or ridden a horse. When he is trying to shoot a can off a fencepost his daughter asks, "Did paw used to kill folks?" She is not expressing dismay. She is expressing disbelief. Clint Eastwood goes on in his hopelessly inept way to kill the two cowboys. He does pull out of his funk and makes the kill and gets the ample reward. His partner has been killed, and the boy who went with him has repudiated his violent ways when he is facing the realization that he has actually killed somebody for money
Voxel is an anti-hero I made, he is both the chosen one and an anti-hero, he is the son of Omega, the leader of the glitches, his main weapon is the meme sword, a weapon made of many materials found across the multiverse, he also can shoot orbs from his hands, but he can also shoot static beams and do the static slap and static orb as an upgrade, Voxel basically was raised by Omega, but then agreed to saving the multiverse.
I've been trying to write a book about a character I came up with a long ass time ago. This character had changed in my mind and over many (like genuinely 10+) years, I know exactly who this character is and how he would respond to pretty much anything. I've been pinning him as an anti hero this whole time but looking at this video... Nah, that man is just a villain, no matter the perspective
Oh, I have two OCs, well one belongs to my girlfriend but these two characters all fall into antihero, for instance, for what they are (Mine was a typical person doing his own things, striving for independence and after some time, a tragic event followed which let him down a path of rage and revenge while trying to do good, despite of the raging monster he has in him) (Hers was a typical person but suffers from abusive parent issues who took her to be experimented on which let her to have these permanent mutations on her, after so much, she let loose killing them to end her misery and now goes out to take out criminals despite of all the misery and rage she experienced, she tried to do some good even if those memories come back to haunt her) Alex was a normal teenager, while he struggles with his parents and annoying sister, he lived a normal life with friends that cared for him. Later, he was drafted to the military to serve and try to reach his own independence. After many months, his general sees his as a person of interest and asked if he were to try an experiment infusing different superpowers into one being to create the perfect super soldier. And it worked, it made Alex into the deadliest being ever. But after some time, he retired from the military and went back to live with his family unaware that they were brutally murdered by someone, which left him heartbroken until he roared in a fit of rage which transformed him into a savage killing machine, hunting down any criminals to find the one that killed his family and kill them if they did or didn’t have the answers, even the police were wary of facing him, and Alex considered them enemies if they hinder his pursuit and brutally kills them for getting in his way. But after some time, he’ll eventually think his mission is fruitless until he was offered a second chance to be a hero, well antihero, and he’ll also find a love interest who experiences the same thing he’s feeling, and that is Joysy Joysy is basically another person who has the same powers as my character (Wolverine’s claws and healing factor, Beast Boy’s animal transformation and Godzilla’s atomic powers), but she has an abusive parent problem who experimented on her granting her these powers and two tails (a Godzilla tail and a Xenomorph tail), but after much abuse, she let loose and killed them, falling under the antihero trope like my character is experiencing and she’s my character’s love interest

I wonder if red x from teen titans is also an antihero? He's honestly my best inspiration for this character traits -acting as the enemy or in this case, a thief -doesn't really mind helping the titans with reason or common enemy/goal -all his action is for himself, stealing or helping others for profits or whim. In my opinion, other than non heroic traits like murder or pragmatism, I think an anti hero has selfishness or like mind his own business or get profits in some form more than just "leaving bad taste in my mouth". Also, I think some people or I myself, actually missing the difference between anti heroism and self sacrifice or are they the same?
So does writing an antihero basically mean we take the best parts of heroes and flip it around? But at the same time make them do good in the end. Like Amos on The Expanse? He is a killer who is still trying to save the world. I'm kinda confused about this.
So I have a story idea, myself about two main characters that will be in the story who are anti heroes. The story will be on my channel and the only thing I need help with is making the ending. So any help would be greatful ok. Now to tell you guys about it? We will have to go spoilers to the future of my channel. So yeah, here we go. ^^ So since I like writing stories. I have a idea in mind to make a story about my channel, where we will have lore in it. Is going to be a hard topic for people to understand if I ever get drama on it. But I can tell you my idea for now and see what you think about it! ^^ [So here comes the spoiler alert to the future of my channel] So on this channel we have three characters here that I am going to use name Natashakat, Dark Natashakat and just Nat (myself irl) I'm use to call them Kat for the short version of my channel. Dark, for the evil side of Kat and Nat basically myself who is watching in the shadows/behind the scenes and are making sure they aren't doing anything wrong. Now to their personalities and goals: Now this is going to be a bit difficult one to understand if you are not to use to use the gray side of black and white to hero and villain. Kat are use to show kindness and she will do whatever it takes to make you think she is a good person on the channel. But all she does to you is just manipulating you. She can control people as she like and likes it aswell. She can also teleport and use psychokinesis to move stuff easier to her plans. Now, if you are smart and can go through her lies then "congratulations! You have sold the case!" But the problem is... will she admit it and say sorry? The easy question is, NO. Now that is where Dark comes in. Dark was created by Kat to just blame her bad actions on her. So Kat will still be seen as the good side. But what she really is the villain of the story. Now Dark on the other hand doesn't want to be the villain of the story. But she is being force to by the fans that Kat has got when she was reveal. In Dark's case she is herself being manipulated by her aswell or at least in the beginning. Now here comes the big thing to her! And I would be so happy! If you can figure this out when it comes! Dark wants to show you the real side of Kat but here comes the problem to that. From here on out when she starts ploting. All you know of Kat is being the good guy and Dark is the bad guy. Now, here comes the problem, from Dark's point of view. "You are being shown as the bad guy, but you don't want to be the bad guy so. What will you do to get Kat's fans attention to you!" Now at this point Dark pretty much just hates her and just really wants to show you how bad and evil she is. Because she is the only one who knows the true story and she has also made a weapon that can either take Kat's powers away or use it against her. So what will you do? Will you try and spread rumores to you that something is wrong and she wants you're help to take her down? Or are you just going to do it yourself and use your new weapon that you have created to stop her. Now to just stop all of this at the moment! I actually don't know how the ending will look like yet. I have been having this idea for so long but I still don't know how the ending should be yet because. I can easily just show you that Dark is the villain but she is not and we will just continue with Kat having control over everything on the channel with your view and vision on it. But Dark really isn't evil! But she will be shown as one when it comes! So I need help with that part to the ending. Because if Dark doesn't do anything either then you will still be manipulate by her, yourself. Because I even have a few episode ideas myself to Dark's revenge that she will use Kat's powers against her so she knows how Dark really feels but at the same time. She will just be viewed as the villain... so yeah, this is a hard topic that I am having problems with. So how can we show Dark as the good guy, but the others knows her as the bad guy, any ideas to make it work? Because I can't decide myself. By the way is gray that is her color of her design so keep that in mind! To the part of black and white. She is in the middle of this mess and doesn't know what to do. So any ideas would be helpful! Ok. ^^ Heh, I don't know if I will show myself yet from irl. But Dark and Kat doesn't even know that I am there or that I have created them. So they have probably just forgot about me. Because Dark is calling Kat, "Nat" but I am calling Kat, Kat in irl lol. So yeah, we are gonna have fun when I come into the story. Also to give you a bit of some early lore? Then let's just say that. I have given Kat the channel and she can do whatever she wants with it. But I am still keeping an eye on her to make sure she won't do anything dumb. Now I haven't decide it yet, but for now I have just decided that I don't have any powers and are just a normal person heh. And is the same to Dark aswell in the beginning. Dark doesn't have any powers yet until she starts making that weapon. For all of her powers will be from that. So yeah, I don't have more to say and I hope you like it if you have any ideas to help me? Then I would like to hear what you have in mind ok. ^^
Okay, then what do you call a character whom has very good morals and heroic qualities, such as, wanting to protect & save the innocent, having the confidence & courage and genuinely just wanting to enforce peace & justice, but not having any qualms about killing people whom are just straight up evil & vile to the core and sparing those whom might still be redeemed and rehabilitated? Do you just called them a certain type of Anti-Hero or a regular hero who's simply willing to get his hands dirty, in order to do the right thing?
I saw this good villain designs and they are very intresting sadly they are not an anti hero but they really fit in like shazam main villain dr sivana and a ranger series ninja steel ripcon they seriously match to be an anti hero this is why i mostly rate them in their character more than the story but most of them had actually intresting "tragic" story and some other villain like starscream from transformers prime i knew he is not an anti hero but in transformer armada starscream is the main anti hero in the series and my favorite villain anti hero but in transformers prime which is alt univarse he is not an anti hero but i really want him to be anti hero!
I'm writing a first-person speculative fiction from the POV of a known traitor. He begins as a Hero in Name Only and then changes to an Unscrupulous Hero and finally does the right thing for the right reason, becoming a true hero.

I have watched this video, neat! I have an anti-hero in the works who is very likable and is very much the hero, but can be merciless to really *REALLY* bad people i.e those who make victims of out of anyone for the wrong reasons, such as murderers, rapists, traffickers, etc. Characters like Ghost Rider are an example of this. The Punisher as well if he wasn't a douche.
