Thanks for the clarification about clothing. I was wandering about embroidering my company logo being considered as a deduction and you cleared that up. lol. You explained it well and you were very succinct.

Question 1: What if I buy a plain t-shirt and I iron on my business logo? Are both tax deductible or just the iron-on business logo? Question 2: I buy a plain t-shirt that I ONLY use at my retail business store and I always have a pin button of my business logo on that shirt all the time. That shirt with the pin button stays in the store during closed hours. Is the t-shirt tax deductible?
@23kim
@23kim 2 года назад
Option 1- promotional attire. Option 2- The pin is not a part of the clothing. It can be removed, making the shirt suitable for everyday wear in a way that would not identify the business or occupation. Doesn't matter if you wear it outside of work; what matters is IF you can.

I'm not trying to be funny, but these are real questions some women may have. Can hair maintenance expenses be deductible when filming RU-vid videos, doing photo shoots to make marketing content, or when interacting with clients? (for self employed consultants)
@LYFEAccounting
@LYFEAccounting 2 года назад
Great question, Shavoon! So, yes you can write off photoshoots related to marketing and most expenses incurred while working with clients. As it relates to hair maintenance, that one is a bit grey because the hair needs to be an ordinary and necessary expense for the business. If your RU-vid channel is within the beauty industry that may qualify
@TheGlamEmpress
@TheGlamEmpress 2 года назад
I have an account and last year I was able to write of beauty maintenance such as nails, hair, lashes etc because I’m a fashion and beauty influencer , model and own a hair company. I do my own book keeping and I save all of my receipts. Make sure to save and file everything just in case you do get audited. ✨💕

This was very helpful; thank you! Are there any differences in the rules regarding whether the clothing is only being rented vs. purchased? Services such as Rent the Runway provide subscriptions to rent clothing varying from gowns to everyday attire.

Dope video as always. Very insightful indeed. THanks for sharing this. "You may be able to justify the clothing worn for content if your brand name or logo is on it". I'm about to go to Printful and put my logo on everything. haha!

so what if the clothing is given in exchange for advertisement and marketing wouldn’t it make it a expense that can be exempt?

What if u own a business u have uniforms with logo and u wash them yourself. The washer breaks, can that washer be a deduction?
@nstv23

So if I own a clothing brand and want to buy a competitor garment so I can analyze the quality the type of materials used stitching techniques and overall style it can't be deducted because I could wear it even though it might be essential to make sure we are no copying it to avoid lawsuits since we plan to do something similar?

Question: I will shortly be starting a handyman business. I'm having a hard time understanding that I cannot deduct either tops or bottoms when the very quickly become unsuitable for wear outside of work -- get torn, soiled with paint, caulk, etc, perhaps on the first day. I understand I they can be deducted if logo'd or have company name and that works for tops (t-shirts, polos, etc) but what about pants ? They don't usually logo pants. Thoughts ?

can car and gas be tax deductible 100% of the time, even if you drive it for personal use 50% of time, if you slap your logo on it? because arguably, you are promoting your business 100% of the time.
