Just started my comedic writing process and your videos are incredibly helpful and inspiring. Thank you for all you do. Edit: Video idea for the channel. Do you think you could pull different bits from different comedians and talk about their style more in depth? I.E How Bill Burr implements story telling to elevate his comedy or how Louis C.K and Anthony Jeselnik use dark humor etc. Would love to hear your personal perspectives on different styles of already known comics.

Thanks for commenting. I am delighted to hear you are getting value from the channel. I already have a video on Bil Burr's writing. You can check it out here - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Rnmzptj4tHc.html I also have one on Dave Chappelle and Jerry Seinfeld. I'll have plenty more coming soon. I'm looking forward to doing one on Louis Ck. However, I'm going to spend a good deal of time preparing that one cause he's one of my favourites, and it's important I do it justice.

Thanks for commenting. Indeed I have already addressed this issue in a previous video. You can check it out here, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zSgkZiO2RD4.html Hope there is something here that can help. Really it's a matter of finding out which way you can stay consistent with your practice. My advice is to run through your set a few times each day, saying it out loud and not just in your head. I'd also recommend buying a mic and stand and practicing performing with that. You'd be surprised how much easier it is to remember lines when your body language onstage is the same as when your practicing.

Hey John, thanks for commenting, delighted you enjoyed the video. I live in London but I'm planning a move back to Dublin around September. I know about Battle of the axe in Temple Bar, also I believe there's an open mic night at international bar. I'm not sure what the scene is going to look like when things open again. There will be open mics for sure as they do bring in money for pubs, but there might be a change in the venues. Only time will tell I suppose.

Thanks for commenting. I'm not sure if I have any videos about character acts on the channel yet. I try to stay away from telling people about their own personality when onstage and instead try and offer practical tricks. I wouldn't want to appear as if I think one character is better than another. Just go up there and have a laugh with it. Don't overthink at the beginning. Get a few gigs done and see how you feel about different aspects of your performance. Best of luck with it.

@@yap_clips Great work. You sound very good on the mic, you've got good charisma and the venue looked very tough to work. Those type of gigs, where you need to battle constantly for attention, are going to turn you into a real strong comic. My only piece of advice I'd offer is to structure your patter so that you don't repeat yourself too often. The beginning you set up the premise of the joke by saying how people still try and sell you a mixtape, there is absolutely nothing wrong with this, however If you were to start with the story of how you were walking and a guy got your attention, I feel this creates more tension as the audience will be wondering what the person wanted and are you in some sort of trouble. I love the bit about how you look from the back, I use those sort of bits too, there's much more you could get from it before even moving onto the mixtape part. So pretty much what I'm saying is that I feel there is even more jokes hidden in your material. But even if you don't listen to anything I say you're going in the right direction. Keep it up.

@LetsTalkComedy
@LetsTalkComedy 11 месяцев назад
After 23 years, I'm still "umming" and "ahhing" for me. It tends to happen when I'm improvising. If it happens during a prepared piece, it's usually due to the bit not being practised enough. My advice would be to run through your entire set on your own. Practice practice practice. If there's a bit you always stutter on, then maybe it's a way of your brain telling you the bit is weak and needs work. Hopefully that helps. Thanks for commenting

If I write a joke and performing a standup comedy and nobody laugh on that joke what would have happened ? May be i will lost my mind.
@LetsTalkComedy
@LetsTalkComedy 3 года назад
Thanks for commenting. Hahaha. Indeed you certainly will not lose your mind. It's happened to myself and everyone performer I know countless times. You simply move onto the next joke. The audience are there to tell you what works and what doesn't. After a while of performing and listening to you're audience you'll begin to know what is going to work before you even say it onstage. It's just a matter of gaining experience onstage. Everyone goes through bad gigs, it's how you get better from them is where the difference between acts is.

How do I progress from here to original
@LetsTalkComedy
@LetsTalkComedy 3 года назад
Thanks for commenting. The more you write out exercises like the examples on this video the sooner you will come up with all your own stories and jokes. Anybody who does what's on this video will all have a different result as everyone has different stories to tell. My advice is to redo what you've learnt on this video over and over again and each time you get writing add a little more of yourself into it. The structure doesn't need to be followed in the same way it's presented on the video. Get as creative as you can and wherever you find yourself getting funny dig deeper and do more of that style. All the best with it.

@LetsTalkComedy
@LetsTalkComedy 3 года назад
Thanks for commenting Kaitlyn. TBH with you I think I'd die of embarrassment if I had to perform a set just for my family or friends. I assure you performing for strangers is a lot easier. The reason for this is cause those that are close to you know who you are deeply and it's very difficult to bring them on a journey. Comedy performance is all about letting your audience know who you on on your terms, with your unique funny observations and opinions and how to express that is the journey you go on as a performer... the funnier you can express yourself and win over majority of an audience the further you will go as a comic. Obviously it's incredible difficult to perform like that in front of people who already know you and more importantly know you as lots of things other than a comic. Obviously there is nothing wrong with trying out a few jokes in front of friends who also have an interest in comedy and can give you honest and helpful feedback. Regarding videos on confidence. I have a video on overcoming stage fright which you can check out here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0cjdeGlJ7wA.html also I have a video on the difference between confidence and charisma and where your focus should be, you can check that out here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-voq2tQFlb4Y.html and I also have a video on how to build stage charisma which you can check out here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SEgWtDUv8os.html I'll be making more videos on this topic again in the future. In the meantime don't be hard on yourself for being terrified performing for friends or family cause every performer I know would consider it the hardest thing to do. All the best. Hope you enjoy the videos.

Hi Sonja. I'm stressed to my eyeballs trying to sort out banking here in Spain so those 5 minutes watching your performance was really enjoyed. Nice material. You tend to do word play very well. It was what worked best in your set. Perhaps add more of that in and sacrifice some of the informative pieces. For example, you only need to mention being a dominatrix once, and construct the jokes around the assumption they are all on board. Another thing I'd say about that particular material. Whenever you start talking about areas connected to sex that's out of the norm you do lose a few people. It's just the way it is. I frequent the fetish events around Europe and whenever I mention it onstage people look at me like I'm from space. So keep that in mind...it's not always the material that needs work. Sometimes you just shock them a little and don't even know it. You must remember at all times that your performing for prudes, lovely friendly and supportive prudes, but prudes all the same. Hope there's something usefull in there. Keep up the great work.

@@LetsTalkComedy Aw, thank you so much! I thought you were going to say you were stressed to your eyeballs and didn't have time to take a look and I was just about to type that, 'thank you, that's fine and no worries', so I was thrilled when you said you enjoyed it, thank you! I really appreciate it and have printed your comments out to keep next to me while I edit and try to polish the set. I'm so excited that I've been invited to do the Leicester Comedy Festival this year but also terrified that it's well out of my league and I don't have a clue how it works! Got to do some research on that! lol. It's funny that you lose a few people talking about the DSM stuff. I find with a younger audience it works better than with the older folk. I have some funny stories about attending fetish clubs and places like that with my former bf but I'm guessing I need to be very careful about which type of audience I use those jokes on! haha. A couple of my friends' said to me 'You're doing so well! You're going to be famous!' and I said 'I bloody hope not! I've got Catholic Aunties and if they see the smut and filth in my set I'll open my front door to a line of elderly Irish women with suitcases and their arms folded on my front path!'. They'd hold an intervention I think and they'd fly by Ryan Air! lol. Thanks so much again, your advice is always golden, when I did my very first set, I used a 'template' that you uploaded and I always find that you never give bad advice! Thanks so much again and have a great weekend lovely! x

@LetsTalkComedy
@LetsTalkComedy 10 месяцев назад
Thanks for commenting. I'm not sure about this. The term ''going up there and just being funny'' can only happen if lots of things are already in place. I can go onstage and just be funny for 20 minutes, but it's prob not going to hit as hard as if I had prepared material. My advice would be to continue to write as often as you can AND perform as often as you can. The vast majority of comics got good at comedy this way. It's tried and tested. It won't be too long till you can make it look like you just go up there and be funny, when in fact there is hard work and consistency that has gone into it.
